Thanks Megan. It is so beautiful here. The shop I work existed as some kind of shop when Jane visited here in 1804/5 so who knows she may have shopped in it?

Alexandra Hi Everyone!! My name is Alexandra (Alex) and I am 32 and I live in Oklahoma with my husband, doggie Bella and at the moment my mother in law lives with us (long story and not goin there lol)I just came across this group and HAD to join!!! I am a slightly newer Jane Austen fan, I first read Emma last year I believe it was and did like it quite a bit but then tried Pride and Prejudice and I am HOOKED I fell so in love with that book it's not even funny, Darcy is my all time favorite male character EVER. Looking forward to meeting many more Austen fans!! I was reading Lady Susan and other Works by Ms Austen but got a lil sidetracked and am hoping to get back to it soon!

message 1206: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Alex! Welcome to the group! I live in Texas so we are sort of near. Very happy to hear you like Austen's work and joined this group. I hope you enjoy the group - lots of discussion goes on!

message 1207: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra Thank you so much Megan!! It seems to be a very fun group!!! How cool, what part of Texas are you in?? We live about half an hour north of Oklahoma City

Sarah Johnson (sarah_johnson_pl) | 9 comments Howdy y'all! I am happy to be joining this group and look forward to the interesting discussions I know will come. (I looked over the threads there now and some are quite intriguing). My hubby and I are both lovers of the classics, though my tastes are quite different than his. I have always loved Louisa May Alcott and Jane Austen, while he prefers William Shakespeare's works. We homeschool our 6 kids (who range in age from 14 down to 2), and we have lived all over the world due to living the military life for 15 years. We have now settled where I grew up and are trying to get established here. I am very glad to be joining you guys!

Hi Sarah! Welcome to the group. I understand the military life as husband and I did that for years (6 addresses in the first 10 months we were married). Happy to have you here!

Alexandra Thank you Soph! By the way, I don't know if Sophia is your name or not but that is my all time favorite girl name ever!

message 1214: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 1458 comments I wish it was Sophia - it's just Sophie, but Sophia is the Greek so it is sort of my name as well! ;)

message 1215: by S.K. (new)

S.K. Rizzolo (skrizzolo) | 28 comments In many cases Sophie is short for Sophia, so you can definitely lay claim to the name. It's a lovely name either way. I'm thinking of Heyer's The Grand Sophy, of course. I think that this Sophy gets called Sophia occasionally in the novel.

I love names that are beautiful when hand written, and both yours are. Soph, yours is just plain stylish! And Alexandra, I'm partial to yours because I have a gorgeous granddaughter whose name is Alyssandra!

message 1221: by Atnea (new)

Atnea Hi! My name is Ana, I'm 14 and I live in Venezuela. My love for Jane Austen was passed to me by my mother, who is completely in love with her novels. We love reading all her novels and watching the movie adaptations as well (specially 2005 Pride & Prejudice, my love for that one is huge). I currently own all of her books, Pride & Prejudice and Persuasion in one book, Emma alone and I own a compilation of all her books. I have great expectations of this group and I hope we can all have passionate and accurate discussions about her work! Thanks for creating this group!

WELCOME, Emma!

Sounds like a great, Austen-loving home you grew up in! Were you perhaps named for the Austen heroine? I love Persuasion too and I'm glad you like Fanny Price--I always felt like she got the short end of the stick as far as Austen's heroines go.

Glad you are here with us!

message 1227: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Emma! Welcome!

message 1228: by Madgratess (new)

Madgratess | 65 comments Welcome Emma! Mansfield Park has recently surpassed P&P and Persuasion as my favorite novel of all time... Such an incredible story!! Although i still find Anne Elliot to be my favorite heroine, I think fanny is a wonderfully written character and I really enjoyed getting to know her.

Ben Starling (ben-starling) | 1 comments Hi, I’m Ben. I love mysteries, sci-fi, thriller, contemporary fiction, classics, adventure, historical and great love stories - but read just about everything. Persuasion was one of my favourites!

Glad to connect with everyone. Feel free to add me!

message 1241: by Dâmaris (new)

Dâmaris (damaris_reader) | 6 comments Olá pessoal! I'm Dâmaris, from BRAZIL. Recently I figured I haven't read enough classics. Then I activated this one-year-old account to help me keep track of my reads. I'm proud to have read all six complete novels by Austen, though. If I had to pick a favorite I'd say Sense and Sensibility but whichever one I reread becomes my favorite at that moment ^^'
Feel free to befriend me.

message 1242: by [deleted user] (new)

message 1244: by Amy (new)

Amy (janeite06) | 2 comments Hello, all!

I'm Amy, just turned 30, making the quote from Persuasion "it sometimes happens that a woman is handsomer at twenty-nine than she was ten years before," no longer applicable to me. Alas!

I'm a regional coordinator for the Jane Austen Society of North America, Southeastern Virginia region. I've considered myself a Janeite since I was about 12, though it took me a number of years to make my way through the novels. My favorite has always been Northanger Abbey.

Very pleased to be here and to have yet another venue for discussing Austen with like-minded folks!

message 1245: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Amy! Welcome! I'm the co-coordinator for the JASNA Greater Houston Region. I hope you'll find some good discussion here!

Jennifer Carranza (jennifercarranza) | 4 comments Well hello everyone!

My name is Jennifer, and I am so excited to have found this group! I have spent the last few days exploring all the discussions and decided it is about time to introduce myself.

As I'm sure most of you are, I am a complete Austen fanatic! I enjoy her writing very much and adore the movie and mini-series adaptions of her works. I am currently discovering the lesser known adaptions and spinoffs. It's such fun!

I can't wait to join in the discussions!
