Introduce Yourself Part Two
Hey there. So I joined this book quite awhile ago but haven't really made time to post at all. Definitely a Jane Austen fan - there's always something to like in her books. I am a teenager, soon to enter the frightening twenties. English is a great love of mine, as is Captain Wentworth from Persuasion ;) which is my favorite JA novel. The fact that Anne & Frederick were swooning over each other for seven years (without any sort of contact) is really appealing to me. Anyway, see you ppl around =)
Welcome to the group LadyDisdain (I like that name)! Persuasion is also my favorite Austen novel. Darcy is quite wonderful but up against THE letter......Hope to see you comment more often!
Thanks, got it from Much Ado About Nothing =PI know, The Letter, Darcy's probably quaking in his hessian boots at the sound of those words.
Darcy's letter is good but is more of CYA thing.
Wentworth's letter - well that is his very gorgeous soul laid out on a platter.

Hello. My name is Luciana and I've been a Jane Austen fan since I was in my early teens. I have three big favourites among her books: P&P, S&S and Emma. I haven't yet read Lady Susan though. I have it here, and the only excuse I have for not reading it is that the book is really heavy and uncomfortable (it's the complete works). I seriously need to fix that. Anyway, I have joined this group some time ago but this is my first post. I guess I felt a little intimidated before, ;) but I'm glad to be here.
Welcome Luciana! Thanks for speaking up! Please join in the discussions - we are happy you are here!
Hi everyone! I'm Andrea, I'm 21 and from Germany. I don't really remember how my Jane Austen obsession started, but I just love her books. So far I have read Persuasion (my all time favorite; I just LOVE that letter from Captain Wentworth; why aren't there any guys around like that???), Northanger Abbey, Mansfield Park, Emma (my least favorite heroine ever), Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility (was anyone else just a little confused by the sheer number of characters and their connections? Felt like that to me...).
I'm really looking forward to hear from you :)
Hi Andrea. Nice to have you here! Please look around all our various discussions and jump in. Welcome!
Hi Neha! Jane Austen is truly a wonderful authoress and you will adore her! As to which one should you start with first well...that is a tough decision to make but whichever you choose know this...you will want more and have her others to choose from. Like everyone else I say Pride and Prejudice is always a good novel to start with but I would also suggest Persuasion is a good one as well! (I am a bit biased because I have declared that one to be my favorite with P & P next and S & S after that!)
I hope you will enjoy your first Jane Austen novel which ever one you choose!
WELCOME Lady Disdain, Luciana, and Andrea!
Glad to have you here! I love Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion, so it seems we all have good taste! :)

Thank you all for your warm welcome.. looks like P&P is the most popular Jane Austen book and what I should start with. I will try to read it in this month and will post my thoughts soon.. :)
Hello All! My name is Rebecca and I don't get on here nearly often enough! I LOVE JANE AUSTEN!! I started with Pride And Prejudice (the 95 A&E movie first)and then I started reading them all and seeing the movies and I love them! Least favorite book...Sense & Sensibility (still love it), least fave movie - Mansfield Park (Frances O'Connor version)! Persuasion is my fave! Best part - Anne would rather be turned over in the carriage by someone she loves than driven safely by someone else!
Hello Rebecca! We all love Jane Austen! Good to have you here. Hope to see more of you in our discussions!
Glad you have joined us Anne! We look forward to hearing what you think!
Welcome, Rebecca and Anne!
You two have definitely picked two of the best in Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion! Glad to have you here!

I just joined. :) Anne (message 619) is my friend and I saw her join...my immediate thought: I need to join!I'm in my mid-teens and am an avid Jane Austenite. :) I have a book blog called Austenitis, and have watched movies of at least most of Jane Austen's stories. I don't want to say all, because I'm not certain.
"Emma" and "Pride and Prejudice" are my favorite books. I love the 2009 Emma and the 1995 Pride and Prejudice.
I have read all of Jane Austen's books, except her uncompleted work, "The Watsons."
So glad to be here! Thanks for starting a great group.
I am a 56 year old teacher from Minnesota. However, I teach in South Dakota. My children are grown adults and I have 2 grandchildren ages 16 years old and 12 years old. I also have 3 German Shepherds and 1 yellow lab and I live on a small hobby farm. The ideal life for me. I taught high school English for 16 years and now I'm currently teaching in both middle school and high school...two totally different worlds. I have also taught at the college level.
I too have gotten to the point of where I read what I enjoy which is good literature. I don't finish a book anymore if I don't like it. I do wish I had more time to read....I enjoy most authors from the Victorian Era...but will read just about anything from the 1800's. I refuse to read anything about vampires falling in love as my granddaughter would suggest that I read those kind of books....uck! lol
Hello Charity! Hi Judy! Welcome to the group! We look forward to both of you joining in the discussions!!
Welcome, Charity and Judy!
I love those film versions, too, Charity--the '95 P & P is the ultimate for me!--and it sounds like you will be able to add a lot to our book discussions as an educator, Judy! Glad to have you both here!

Hi, I'm Kristin. I first discovered Jane Austen in 2006 when I was 15. I heard about the P&P movie and wanted to see it, but I wanted to read the book first. So I did, and I loved it. I also loved the movie, by the way (2005 P&P is not only my favorite Austen movie adaption but my favorite movie period). Since then, I've read all of her novels and become a serious fan. An Austenite, I guess I could say? :)"Pride and Prejudice," "Emma," and "Persuasion" are my top three of her novels.
Hi Kristin! Welcome to the group. I hope you look around and jump into the discussions! Nice to have you join the rest of us!
Hi I'm Deidra. I first discovered Jane Austen when I was in fifth grade. I had watched the movie Emma with Jeremy Northam and loved the movie so much my loving mother bought me the video. I noticed in the intro that it was based on the novel by Jane Austen. Being I was in fifth grade I had no idea who she was but I was already a big reader so looked her up at my local library read all her six completed novels in a month. Have been a fan ever since and I am 27 years old now. Pride and Prejudice is my favorite.
Hello Deidra!Glad to have you here!
Welcome, Brenda, Kristin, and Deidre!
I'm so glad to see so many new people joinin our group! I hope you all can contribute a lot and enjoy your time here!

Hi folks, I am Aroma, 27, from Germany and I am a Jane Austen Lover since forever... Picking a favourite is hard, but as I love pestering other people about their favourite anything (be it books, food, movies) I feel I need to choose one. So if I could - horror of horrors - keep only 1 single Austen book, it would be Emma. No, wait, Pride and Prejudice. No, Emma. Seriously, Emma. I can identify sooo much with her, I fell we would be friends. :)
I haven't watched too many Jane Austen movies - and didn't really like the ones I watched. So, I am sticking to the books, thank you very much.
Welcome to the group Aroma! We won't make you choose a favorite here! ;-)
Hi, my name's Starry, I live in Australia, and have read all the Austen books multiple times except Emma, yes, I am yet to read this! (I blame the movie version with Gwyneth Paltrow for my disinterest in the novel which I hope to overcome). After all, its Jane Austen, how is it possible I would not enjoy it and kick myself for putting it off all these years?I'll really enjoy being in company with so many other Austen fans and readers, and hope to make more goodreads freinds.
New member as of yesterday! My name is Christie Struck, I'm a Jane Austen fanatic. Love all her books, even her unfinished ones. I have read most of the books that "finish" her books and books that star her as well. (Anyone ever read the Jane as a mystery heroine series by Stephanie Barron? Very fun!) The only thing I hate are books that authors haven't been the least bit creative and have stolen characters and names from other books and from her real life to mash them all into a "plot" of sorts and pass that off as something "inspired by Jane Austen". Not cool at all. At least write your own supporting characters that make sense.
Welcome to the group Starry and Christie! We are all very happy you have joined us. Look around and tell us what you are thinking!
Welcome, Starry and Christie!!
Glad to have two such huge Austen fans here--you're in the right place! :)
Starry, I hope you read Emma very soon. The main character irritates me, but you will fall in love with Mr. Knightly and Miss Bates is a hoot! And, I have read the first Jane Austen Mystery by Barron, Christie--I loved it and hope to get to the next soon!
Wonderful to have you two here!

Hi there! Im Em and Im a huge Jane Austen fan. I love all of Ms. Austens novels but by far my favorites are Persuasion and Pride & Prejudice. I recently finished a Georgette Heyer novel which according to some reviews I've read are similar to J.A. novels which I kinda agree, any thoughts?
Hi Em! Welcome to the group!
Georgette Heyer (d. 1974) is an author who wrote historical romance novels and some detective fiction. She is usually credited for establishing the genre of "Regency Romance" novels. Ms. Heyer said her inspiration was Jane Austen. Heyer did tons of research about her time period and that is why the detail in her books is so interesting. And she is good when one needs a Jane-like fix!
Hope to see you more in our discussions.

Welcome, Em!
Heyer is a nice sub for Austen after you've read all the original lady's works, as Megan said. Austen is still the ultimate voice of romance for her time, of course! :)
Glad to have you here!

I am not sure if I wrote my name and true facts about myself, please let me know if I did. I forget things.
Hello...My name is Melinda. I'm 21, in college and also a mother. I love Jane Austen and I'm new to this website. Just getting a hang of it. I just finish reading a book and in the process of finding a book to read. Something like Jane Austen any ideas?
Hi Melinda! Welcome to the group. Check out our bookshelf in the group. Lots of good stuff on there.
Welcome, Melinda!!
Good luck juggling classes and a baby--you're accomplishing a lot! The Jane Austen Fan Fiction section of our discussion threads has a lot of info on the sequels and re-tellings authors have done of Austen's work, too. Definitely worth checking out. Hope to see you around here as much as you can!

I'm Alisa, and I'm a Jane Austen addict. I'm ashamed to admit it, but even though I was an English major, I never read JA until my 30s, when I was immediately hooked. Persuasion and Pride & Prejudice are my favorite Austen novels, and I've reread them many times. I also really enjoy Emma, and I'm working on cultivating my appreciation of Mansfield Park and Northanger Abbey.
I also love the Austen adaptations, of course. Or at least the vast majority of them.
Looking forward to participating in this group!
