You're appalled by the heartlessness of the perpetrators, yet you can't stop reading because you just HAVE to find out what happens to the poor imprisoned woman at the end! It alternately depicts the view of the inspectors and the victim's perspective and her thoughts while in captivity, which makes it really interesting. Another thing to note is that it's a surprisingly effective melange of humourous elements and crime fiction, which makes it quite fun to read :)
Still busy with Sense and Sensibility but starting Looking for Jake: Stories. Usually I don't like short stories but since there are a few challenges that require them I thought I'd give this one a go.
I was getting the Harry Potter audio books for a friend and started listening to the first one out of curiosity. And well, I'm all through book 1 and on to book 2 now. Never thought the audio versions would be so good!
Reading the second part of Jussi Adler-Olsen's "Department Q" series... which hasn't even been translated into English yet... but it has been released in German, luckily (as "Schändung") :PIt feels all ... exclusive being able to read a book so long before many other people xD
If they go the boring route of giving the novels pretty nondescript/cliche/boring names compared to their Danish counterparts (as seems to be the trend), this would translate to "Desecration"... or something. :P
The original name ("The Pheasant Killers") is much more... well, interesting, in my opinion.
But aaanyway... that's what I'm reading. xD

I'm reading End Of The World Blues by Jon Courtenay Grimwood.I got the ARC a few years ago when I was still working at Exclusive Book. Marketing-speak on the back associates the author with Haruki Murakami, Iain M. Banks, Richard Morgan and China Mieville - all authors I like, so it's stupid that I've waited this long to read it.
I'm reading
. I fist saw it last year in one Lu's posts when we were nominating tasks for the Cover Challenge. And it keeps turning up on GoodReads, Amazon and a few other newsletters I got, so I decided to just read it. Bombard me enough and I'll cave eventually. :P
I started
today. I was supposed to read Pride and Prejudice after The Hunger Games but then I got hooked.

OMG I want to read it soooooo bad!

I'm reading Neuromancer by William Gibson. This is my third or fourth attempt, and god dammit this time I WILL finish it.
I'm slowly, slowly, slowly creeping through Catch-22. Loving the writing, but getting confused between all the samey military characters.
I saw this one in the bookshop least week. My gasp at noticing the little flags on the cover was loud enough to make two people look at me all puzzled. Oops. At least now I can finish the Cover Challenge. Ha! =)
As usual, I'm reading several books at once:
I'm reviewing Those Across the River, a horror set in the American South of the 40s or 50s. Took a while to get going, but it's seriously scary now.
I'm reading The Three Musketeers with Barbara. The Duck That Won the Lottery is a quick and easy philosophy read. I'm reading it for MishMash (the task where you have to read the book that's been on your tbr list the longest).
I just finished Magic's Pawn by Mercedes Lackey. I think I might have liked this more if I'd first read it when I was 15.
PC dying is uncool. Can you get it fixed?I am going to read the next book in that series, because apparently I have no shame.
I have a back up hardrive, so that is fine, but the thing is all my stuff that I lost on the other one :(
Trying to see if I can get the data off the old one, but there is little chance :(

I know it can be a bitch. Usually my computer dies on me twice a year. Mostly I can save it but every so often I need a new harddrive.
No, I am not complety stupid and do stupid things on my computer which causes death but my own personal magnetic field is stronger than avarage and this causes problems for my computer. It is also the reason I can wear watches because I either suck the battery dry within a week or if it doesn't use a battery it will use my heartbeat as seconds which is really funny to see because if I run the time really flies. Also security portals are fun. They always go off. In stores, at airports it is fun. I always have to strip.
To make a comment about the topic this discussion is supposed to be going on about. I am reading Vilette by a Bronte sister. Can't remember which one. I want to say Charlotte, but I can be wrong and I am too lazy to look it up. I will also start another book today but I don't know which one yet.

I have no idea. The doctor doesn't have an explanation either, but it can be real annoying sometimes. Like 12 years ago I flew to Mexico and due to delays I was diverted to the States where I didn't want to be and wasn't planning on going and then one of the security portals went off and they used this handscanner to figure out where it was coming from and it was from this area around my left knee. So I had to strip and show them my knee and I got all these questions if I was ever operated on and if there was some metal in my knee but there wasn't and I don't have any scars on my knee so the security agents were totally baffled about what to do with me, because they couldn't find anything or couldn't explain what was going on and their machines were telling them I had something hidden which I hadn't. Telling them about the magnetic field didn't make any difference. Fortunately this was pre 9-11 or I don't think they would have let me go which they did eventually after quite some time. Fortunately it comes and goes and the machines are a lot better now so it is getting better, but it can be a hassle. Besides this I have a face that makes random custom officials ask me in random spots of an airport what I am doing and where I am going. I always tell people who are travelling with me that it might take some time to get to the gate, but we will get there.
Wow, that's so strange and inconvenient. Can't your doctor give you a letter for travelling to make your encounters with security easier?
No, cause it's no known medical condition. The good thing is I am used to it now and that makes all the difference. In the beginning I would get nervous and that would upset the securite people even more, but now I act like this happens all the time which it does and it doesn't feel like I am hidding something to them so they will let me go sooner.
Have you guys seen this NPR Science Fiction/Fantasy Top 100 chart?I think it's awesome. :D

I definitely preferred that one to The Kite Runner, but it didn't seem to get the same attention.Cynical me says probably because it's about a woman and not a man.
Go ahead Lu!The couple of blogs I saw it on didn't have a legible version of the chart, so yours will better. :P
Reading
A bit dull at first, but now I'm in a techy section about designing a massively multiplayer online RPG and I can't believe how interesting it is.

I have to agree with you there Cat, I can't say that I've ever heard much of this book, but The Kite Runner well they made a whole hoo haa about it. A friend of mine also read both and said that this one was much better

I'm falling desperately far behind on my GR reading challenge. My attention just doesn't seem to hold on anything long enough to finish it. Any suggestions?
I've started the Jack Reacher novels and a book I helped edit as part of a reading beta group, we did chapters at a time so I never got to read the entire thing - http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12...
Reading The Final Testament of the Holy Bible by James Frey. Good book so far, i like how each character speaks differently depending on their background. Good quotes as well throughout....
