Hey Lu, thanks for pointing that out about Clockwork Angel being part of that particualry series (I had no idea) I have only read the first book, so If I want to read the new one I best start reading the other 2 first.

Lauren Smith I get restless like that too sometimes, but this time it's the opposite problem - there are too many 'right' books and I'm in the mood for all of them.

To add to that, I'd reading a book about someone who's reading a book and there are loads of literary references that are getting me interested in other things; there's a Q&A with Margaret Atwood on Goodreads this week and I want to do some reading for that; I've built up a wishlist at BookDepository and I can't wait to make my first purchase; I want to do an epic read; and I've got a box of books for the Patchwork Challenge next to my bed and they all look appealing right now!

*Sob*. I need more time. And I need to be more efficient...

How are you finding it? I tried to read it twice but my mind just seems to wonder elsewhere. Gave it a break and started with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

message 458: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I'm really enjoying it actually. I must have just been impatient before.

Anne Lalor | 38 comments Have just finished James Ransom and really enjoyed it. Looking forward to more of him.

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments I'm reading The Mermaids Singing (Tony Hill & Carol Jordan, #1) by Val McDermid by Val McDermid - has been on my TBR list for years.
I can't wait to get back to the Soulless series by Gail Carriger! In the meantime I'm recommending it to everyone I know, and pestering them 'till they add it to their TBR pile.

message 461: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I read The Mermaids Singing years ago, really enjoyed it, as well as McDermid's other work. She's a great mystery writer.

Hi, I enjoyed 8th Confession but it is a bit formulaic - something for a quick read!

I love McDermid's books, especially the Tony Hill series. Have you seen the television series (Wire in the Blood with Hermione Norris and - my mind's gone blank - Robson Green. Excellent!

Most of James stuff is quick and easy to read. He's my go to guy when I want to read but not feeling up for any mental challenges :)

Monique (moniqueurbanisedgeek) I was going to reread Vampire Academy, but figured I'd hit these two first...

NovelYear, when you've read it do a review on it here at the group and we can read it to see what you thought of it :)

message 473: by Emma (new)

Emma (emmauk007) | 1081 comments Alot of people loved Fallen, but unfortunately I wasnt one of them, the story seemed to drag on forever and I ended up leaving this book to the side for something more gripping. But like I said some people loved it.

message 474: by Monique (new)

Monique (moniqueurbanisedgeek) will do! Off to pick it up today.

I loved Cassandra Clare, but some people hated it, so maybe my opinion is not the best one to take. ;)

TOne thing that we seem to do very well on in this book club, is to respect the opinion of others Novel, so please never be worried to say you didnt enjoy the book. On alot of bookclubs Lauren would be slated because she hates Twilight, but in this book club everyone is an individual with their own thoughts and opinions.I am not a big of Breakaing dawn and there are lots of books that I have hated which others loved.

So if you hated a book then please tell us, we wont bite :-) Promise

message 476: by Monique (new)

Monique (moniqueurbanisedgeek) Thanks, Emma!

As it is going so far, I am loving it. It is well-written and totally not what I expected. Of course, I need to finish it before I can say if it's worth it. :)

message 477: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Listening to the audio book of Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris and reading Information: The New Language of Science by Christian von Baeyer.

I hope you enjoy Sookie! They just get better and better! Nr 4 and Nr 7 sjoe I loved them!

message 479: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Unfortunately it's kind of boring at the moment, because everything I've read so far I've already seen in True Blood, and the book doesn't add anything to the story. Strangely enough, the book actually has less detail. I also prefer the feistier Sookie from the TV show, and I miss the other characters, especially Tara and Lafayette.

Hopefully it gets more interesting once I get past what I've already watched though :)

message 480: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
Well don't get your hopes up with Tara and Lafayette. They don't play big roles. And Sookie gets feistier as it goes on :)

message 481: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith That's a pity :( Ah well, at least I can follow the plot until I get the rest of True Blood.

I also started reading the group read for next month: Beastly by Alex Flinn.

message 482: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
I'm so excited to start Beastly!

message 483: by Monique (new)

Monique (moniqueurbanisedgeek) me too! it really does look awesome! but I am going to be good and only read it on October. :P

message 484: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm trying to find Beastly, also cant wait to read it.

At the moment reading Gods Behaving Badly and The Year of the Flood

message 485: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Beastly can be downloaded from 4Shared Niecole. Just be sure to type in 'Flinn' and not 'Finn' like I did :) Or just use the title.

The Year of the Flood! Cool, let me know how it goes :) I've been putting that one off for too long.

message 486: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Lauren!

Well The Year of the Flood is a bit like Oryx and Crake, same situation, but written in the point of view of a few people. I'm still at the start but I'm loving it so far :)

message 488: by Claudia (new)

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments I couldn't wait till Oct, so I started and finished Beastly by Alex Flinn today in one sitting. It was that good! Now my butt hurts, and I realise I've forgotten to feed my dog all day. Poor puppy =(

message 489: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I'm also finding Beastly to be a very quick read - almost done.

message 490: by Lu (new)

Dammit i want mine to come :(

Lol poor puppy

message 491: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith You could start reading the e-book in the meantime. Although it's so short and easy you could finish it before the book itself arrives :)
I'll finish later today, review to follow.

message 492: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
Nah I'll wait patiently :(

Looking forward to your review! Making the discussion places now

message 493: by Sonette (new)

Sonette | 384 comments Okay! I haven't been here for a while, so I'm trying to catch up. I have finished Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, #1) by Cassandra Clare and have stopped reading everything else but Torment (Fallen, #2) by Lauren Kate . Have to give that Patchwork Challenge one last try before we start with the new challenges.

message 494: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I finished Beastly today. Still listening to Dead Until Dark, and I just started a book lent to me by a colleague - Not the End of the World by Geraldine McCaughrean, which tells the biblical myth of Noah and the Flood from his daughter's point of view. Pretty good so far.

message 495: by [deleted user] (new)

Ooooh I cant wait to get Audio Books!
I'm still reading The Year of the Flood and Gods Behaving Badly. The second one is pretty good, a new twist on Greek gods and their lives

message 496: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Gods Behaving Badly looks interesting! It's a good choice for the Mythology/Folklore challenge. Tomorrow we start picking tasks/books for that and the others, yay!

message 497: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah it would be a great one for that!
Its really funny and interesting. They live in Modern day England and all have regular jobs...

Can't wait to start picking

Hi Lauren, sounds like an interesting book. Alot of people speculate about whether the flood really happened, did a bit of research on this quite awhile ago and found some interesting facts. It is strange that no matter where you go in the world, people and tribes have a story of a huge deluge that covered the earth. All of them have similar features.Infact the chinese symbol for ship are made up of 4 characters, VESSEL, EIGHT, & PERSONS.which bears a striking resemblane to the Biblical account of 8 persons in a vessel. Also in 1901 in Siberia a mammoth was discovered with vegetation still in its mouth, some see this, as well as in such other things as marine fossils found on high mountains, convincing evidence of a sudden catastrophic global flood. Would be nice to read the book you spoke of.:-)

message 500: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith It's very interesting so far, but also quite sad and dark. It's got a bit of a feminist angle, in that the daughter Timna says she probably won't be remembered because sons are more important than daughters, and her mother keeps telling her she must obey her father, women shouldn't try and talk about religion, etc. I'm guessing she isn't mentioned in the Bible, I'll have to check.

And although I'm only on chapter 2 or 3 it's already quite sad - from the Ark they hear all the neighbours calling to them for help, they see dead animals, birds flying with nowhere to land. :(

Strangely enough though, I'm doing the Babylonian Flood myth that the Noah version was based on in mythology class next week. It'll be cool to compare this book with those two versions.

I've heard of the mammoth but I think it was evidence of a very sudden ice age though. If it had been caught in a flood the food would have been washed away.
