Valorie, did you like it better than the first book? I read Howling at the Moon earlier this year & really didn't care for it at all. However, I try not to judge a series by the first book. I'm #1 on the list at PB Swap, but put it on hold because I've been hesitant to get it.

I feel the same, Cherra. Bedroom-only, LOL. Otherwise, it's a little lame to me. xD

It does take about 100 pages to get into The Host, but it is worth it. I don't think you'll be disappointed when you finish the book.

new_user | 1389 comments No, but I've heard so much about the content I may as well have, LOL. She writes a popular fantasy, the whole service business. Fine in the bedroom, I'm a less a fan of it as a lifestyle. I think she uses a good deal of pain too, doesn't she? I can go without that too.

Uhhh, yes--pain is the main aspect of the whole disturbing book. The torture is endless--the doms come up with all these stupid rules for the subs to follow and if they DON'T follow them exactly, they are beaten and sexually/physically tortured. If they DO follow the rules exactly they get beaten and sexually/physically tortured--where is the reward? I mean, it is really ridiculous and these stupid morons who are the submissives think they actually love their dominates. They are all completely whacked in the head. Honestly, I can't even imagine how she came up with the majority of the scenes for the books. I told Flibity Floob that I was actually kind of embarrassed to have it on my shelves.

message 4410: by Karen (new)

Karen (kwren) | 2 comments i'm just starting Blaze of Memory but i know i will love it. i have blown through the whole psy/changeling series over the past few weeks, i <3 them so so much! i adore the way they are written, you get the satisfaction of a complete story in every book while keeping the anticipatory thrill of the next book fresh with the underlying plotline that grows through each book.

message 4411: by new_user (last edited Dec 01, 2009 07:41PM) (new)

new_user | 1389 comments LOL, Cherra, it seems like BDSM for OCD people, doesn't it? All these elaborate games and rules so they have an excuse to abuse each other? Yeah, the ceremony gets tedious. It's about as exciting as paperwork. She probably doesn't say much about their arousal, etc., right? No feelings aside from the adoration? Too clinical/cerebral. It's no longer sex, LOL. She's the poor man's BDSM. There's been much better since then thankfully. I think it was still risque when she wrote it.

oh yeah, risque for sure when she wrote it--very very graphic and not in a good way. dont think i will be exploring the rest of the trilogy.

I know what you mean about feeling a little embarrassed. I bought it a while back, started reading it, and knew within the first few pages that it just wasn't for me. I returned it. To each his own, but it just wasn't my thing.

message 4414: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) Finished up Blaze of Memory (Psy-Changeling, #7) by Nalini Singh . Wasn't sure how I would feel about two psy main characters, but really enjoyed reading their story. And of course Singh is great about continuing the overarching story in each book.

Now on to Me and My Shadow (Silver Dragons, #3) by Katie MacAlister .

MsBeaglely | 118 comments Just finished Frostbitten (Women of the Otherworld, #10) by Kelley Armstrong . It was OK, but not the best in the series. Started Breathless A Novel by Dean Koontz last night. Iwas only able to check it out for a week, so I have some serious reading to do this week.

I agree Cherra. I had the hardest time reading this book. I actually didn't think I would make it to the end. I am not one to shy away from "heat" but this was down right humiliating and abusive. I was very disappointed because I had just read her book Belinda and fell in love with it.

yeah, i don't think i will be continuing the trilogy, but i am kinda curious how it all ends for Beauty. After hearing that the sexual torture in book 2 involves a cat, I think that is enough to satisfy my curiosity--as I am quite sure Beauty is totally screwed for life.

Actually, I did enjoy it more than the first book. I really did like the first book though too. I think the first book had more character building going on than this one. This one seemed to have more going on in the story.

Nope, you won't be disappointed. Mercy & Riley are in my top 2 fave of the series, along with Judd & Brenna.

Enjoy! ;)

Nita (gillnit) I just finished up Me and My Shadow (Silver Dragons, #3) by Katie MacAlister . I really enjoyed it. Aisling was fun in the first MacAlister dragon series, but May is great in the Silver Dragons series.

I am starting Wicked Hot by Charlene Teglia .

I ♥ Bookie Nookie (bookienookiereviews.blogspot.com) (ibookienookie) Anyone have any suggestions of good books with any words having to do with "Royals" in the title? King, Queen, Prince, Princess, Lord, Lady...

message 4439: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) Cherra - have your read any of the Tairen Soul series by C.L. Wilson? The first in the series is Lord of the Fading Lands (Tairen Soul, Book #1) by C.L. Wilson and the three books after that one have the words Lady, Queen, and King in the titles. I would say they are more fantasy with lots of romance as opposed to paranormal romance. I really enjoyed them and am reading the fourth book very soon.

Valorie | 426 comments I just finished A Girl's Guide to Vampires (Dark Ones, #1) by Katie MacAlister Well unfortunately I can only say this first book was just OK for me. I found the two female characters kinda annoying and childish. I did think there was some smart and witty writing so I will try the next book in the series and hopefully it will get better. I'm now moving on to The Hunger (Companion, #2) by Susan Squires
