Sillylittlefishey | 1025 comments Finished One Silent Night (Dark-Hunter #15) by Sherrilyn Kenyon ... it was just okay, but I felt it was an important book for the series progression.

Now I'm halfway through an advanced copy of Archangel's Prophecy (Guild Hunter, #11) by Nalini Singh

RothAct of Surrender you know with this compilation you have to read the PSI and the outcast in between the regular books to understand who some of the characters are. I love it because it keeps me in reading material with one author.

I really liked all the OPS series - but they seemed to stall abruptly - Its gotta be a year since I read them and haven't seen any new ones yet :( I really liked her King of Prey series which is 6 books - it was a different "animal" - i've not read anything like it - you may like it too.

I finished this and I didn't love it. I liked it but my rating was generous. I didn't like some of the decisions made by Kate & Curran, nor how the story unfolded - 3.5 stars

I also listened to Blood Bound Blood Bound (Mercy Thompson, #2) by Patricia Briggs . This is just an ok series and I'm not sure if I want to continue - 3 stars

I'm halfway done with Crown of Midnight Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass, #2) by Sarah J. Maas , which is frustratingly slow. I really don't care about Celaena's love life.

I just started listening to Three Dark Crowns Three Dark Crowns (Three Dark Crowns, #1) by Kendare Blake so I don't have an opinion yet.

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 398 comments I'm now on to Iron and Magic (The Iron Covenant, #1) by Ilona Andrews but I'm tempted to skip it and go straight to Magic Triumphs (Kate Daniels, #10) by Ilona Andrews as I'm so desperate to find out how it all ends (and then go back to Iron and Magic).

I won't though!

Tiera McMillian (hawtmess) | 7 comments I have read quite a few good books this month and thought I would share a couple of the ones I liked the best.

The Queen's Poisoner (Kingfountain, #1) by Jeff Wheeler
City of Demons (Chronicles of Arcana #1) by Debbie Cassidy and City of the Lost (Chronicles of Arcana #2) by Debbie Cassidy
- really strong, sassy heroine. Cant wait for the next one.
Signs of Cupidity A Fantasy Reverse Harem Story (Heart Hassle Book 1) by Raven Kennedy and Bonds of Cupidity A Fantasy Reverse Harem Story (Heart Hassle Book 2) by Raven Kennedy
- such a funny awkward word vomit FMC loved these!
Four Psychos (The Dark Side, #1) by Kristy Cunning , Three Trials (The Dark Side, #2) by Kristy Cunning , Two Kingdoms (The Dark Side, #3) by Kristy Cunning
- interesting storyline and hilarious FMC
Royal Dragon (The Bride Hunt, #1) by Charlene Hartnady
- this whole series was fun and interesting. I came upon it accidentally when I read Dragon Hunt (Water Dragons, #1) by Charlene Hartnady which is a later spinoff. I love loved Dragon Hunt and had to go back and read the first series.
His Banana by Penelope Bloom & Her Cherry by Penelope Bloom
- Her Cherry has to be the funniest raunchiest humor book I have ever read. His Banana comes first but the second one is really a one click for sure, so funny.
Queen Takes Knights (Their Vampire Queen, #1) by Joely Sue Burkhart
- this series was something else, 5 books so far RHN. Its not for a weak stomach the cover itself is very descriptive of whats going to happen in it. The story was great!

These have been my favorites so far this month!

So on the Queens Poisoner it was unlike what I normally read but I loved it and gave it 5 stars. Great Character depth, great emotion, great world building, and intrigue but its very subtle. The MC is an 8 year old boy. I thought it was great but if you like more fast paced action packed stuff then it may seem a little slow plot wise but I just loved it, If your into audio the narrator is really great. I ended up doing a mix of narration and just reading and I felt she did an excellent job.

I'm not really in the mood for anything right now--too much on my plate, and stress is amazing. (Nine days evacuated away from home, courtesy of Florence, plus was getting the house ready to go on the market before she made her U.S. debut, so the clean-up--as minor as mine is--is adding to that stress. I really want to go somewhere and sleep for a week or two, three at the max.) So, when I get in one of "these" moods, I pull out some of my old tried and trues for a re-read. Gil McNeil is always good for when you are feeling stressed. I'm currently reading A Good Year for the Roses for about the 10th time. But I'm struggling even with this. It's taken me 2 days to reach page 143 when normally I'd read the entire book (263 pgs) in a couple of hours. Ah well, things will eventually get better and I'll find something new to read and then I'll take off and make my reading goal for the year (365 books). And if I don't make it, that's OK too.

I finished both books. Crown of Midnight picked up around the 70% mark and I plan on reading the next - 4 stars

Three Dark Crowns was not good. It had an interesting premise but was poorly executed and exceedingly boring. I will not be continuing with this series - a generous 2 stars

I've decided to listen to Iron Kissed Iron Kissed (Mercy Thompson, #3) by Patricia Briggs . Maybe this will be the book to finally win me over to this series.

ETA: Apparently I dnf'd Iron Kissed back in 2012 at the 38% mark. I wonder what will happen this time, since I'm listening instead.

I agree ... I've been waiting for Illium's book! Don't take me not liking this new one too badly.... I've been getting bored with Raphael and Elena ... I thought this one had all the making of the emotional reads that I love, but it really wasn't the tearjerker I was hoping for. It also ends on a big cliffhanger....

Sillylittlefishey | 1025 comments Finished Mirror, Mirror (includes In Death, #37.5) by J.D. Robb ... I actually liked it better than I thought I would as I'm not big on anthologies.

Now I'm reading When Day Breaks (KGI, #9) by Maya Banks

message 37729: by Jim (new)

Jim | 121 comments Finished Sweep in Peace (Innkeeper Chronicles, #2) by Ilona Andrews Sweep in Peace, which I considered a 4 star. The story was interesting and the world and characters from the 1st book in the series were consistent.
Then I read Fugitive by Magic (The Baine Chronicles Fenris's Story #1) by Jasmine Walt Fugitive by Magic, which I gave 3 stars, It was nice that it filled in the story of Fenris, but I did not find it as engaging as the other books in the series.
I also read Alassa's Tale a Schooled in Magic novella by Christopher G. Nuttall Alassa's Tale: a Schooled in Magic novella, another 3 star for me. This book filled in some information from the Schooled in Magic series. It was nice to help understand the ending of the last book in the series that I had read, but I did not enjoy it as much as the books focusing on Emily.
I read Dungeon Guild (Glendaria Awakens #3) by Jonathan Brooks Dungeon Guild which was a 3 star. I did not realize that this was the third book in a series until I finished the book. It was good enough for me as a stand alone, but not good enough for me to want to go back and read the other 2 in the series.
I am currently reading The Anatomy of Jane (WJM, #1) by Amelia LeFay The Anatomy of Jane which I am stalled at about 55% complete, the story is not compelling enough to keep me engaged so I started Shadow Study (Soulfinders #1; Study, #4) by Maria V. Snyder Shadow Study.

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 398 comments Since completing my binge read of the Kate Daniels series I've needed a bit of a breather. And I have to agree with Mitabird in that I didn't totally love the ending of the series with Magic Triumphs (Kate Daniels, #10) by Ilona Andrews for a few different reasons which I'll put in my review.

I've since read... no skimmed through Hearts of Jade (Hidden Hearts #3) by Mary Crawford which I thought would be a nice angsty romance but it was bland as can be with quite poor writing and characters.

Also, a heartwrenching little shortie Lovesong (Green Creek #2.5) by T.J. Klune which is a freebie on T.J. Klune's website. It's a little taster to keep us going until the release of Heartsong (book 3 in the Green Creek series). Not until this time next year... boo hoo, this is why I don't tend to read most series' one at a time! I'm too greedy and want them all at once! I'm a strong product of the"want it now" mentality like most millennials!

And seriously, if you haven't read Wolfsong (Green Creek, #1) by T.J. Klune and Ravensong (Green Creek, #2) by T.J. Klune yet and are happy to read each book as it's released , get your paws on them now!!! Pun TOTALLY intended. TJ Klune on the basis of 4 of the 5 of his books that I've read is def on my fav authors list. He really can write.

Currently finishing up this shortie The Devil in America by Kai Ashante Wilson which is a strange but stunning little historical fantasy tale.

Jena (troelsy) | 2 comments At 50% of If Angels Burn You get the 1 star reviews saying it's rapey. And I'm not into that, but I've not seen that yet. (apparently he almost raped her but it wasn't his fault really). There's a connection neither can control.

I'm enjoying the medical knowledge of the author. It shows. Just like White Trash Zombie where the author was a morgue tech. lol I saw 1 star reviews for If Angels Burn cos it was too graphic with the gore. As in reality, as it is. That's just fucking sad. lol

My only concern (and shock to be honest) was I saw the author does Christian fiction. As an atheist that does concern me some. But at 50% I have not felt religion shoved down my throat at all.

I've come to the conclusion that this series is not for me. While I find the stories mildly interesting, I don't care for the characters. I'm not sure how I like how the ending was handled, either - 2.5 stars.

It took me a while to get through the 1st book, maybe because the characters that are now the focus of the new series just weren't clicking with me at first, but they do now and I am really enjoying this 2nd book.

I totally agree, Treena, and Nero and Leda have probably become one of my top favorite UF couples. Now that I'm caught up on this series, I'm anxious for the next book to come out, can't wait.

I actually found out about the series on this thread - can't remember now who originally recommended it, but am thankful for the great rec.

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 398 comments Have started Aftermath by Kelley Armstrong and after a long wait the chunkster that is The Walking Dead, Compendium 1 by Robert Kirkman (which nearly broke my back carrying it home from the library!) but am not sure if I'll finish it...I'm not far into it but already the writing is terrible... with awful, somewhat stilted dialogue with horrible cardboard characters!

How does this have so many high ratings? The best thing about it so far is that it is the original source of a (although now questionably) great TV show. A prime example of a great premise that IMO has been badly executed. Has anyone else here read any of these comics?
