oh I just love Grace Draven!!! I am interested to see what you think of Master of Crows. I still need to read that one. She writes the best fantasy romance and she is one of those authors that keep me up all night right :) Happy reading on this one.

Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments I just started Queen of Shadows a book in the Throne of Glass series. I enjoyed the previous books quite a bit. I also recently finished Victoria Clapton's Dark Light. It's a fascinating book. It doesn't fit into any particular genre. It is character driven, and the story line is compelling. It is about the struggle between good and evil. A look at the need for balance between light and dark. I found it incredibly engaging. I loved the depth and complexity of the characters. It is wonderfully disturbing. I loved it.

BookPusher D (bookpusherd) Debbie,

they were actually selling them at Comic Con! Total shock and a first. Usually they have 1 copy of the next DH book, so you can drool over it from a far.. lol And Sherri had a signing at a local bookstore, so they were selling them there before and during the signing, but if you got it through the store you had to wait till the signing to hold it in your hands. They are off the shelf till Aug 2nd now.

BookPusher D (bookpusherd) Kim, yes please tell us how you like Master of Crows. I love GD's stories so far. I need to get MoC.

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) started The Veil (Devil's Isle, #1) by Chloe Neill I like the bases of the book so far (magic and paranormal have torn through the veil separating the two worlds which exploded into a massive war) and I love where the book is set - New Orleans. But I'm a little iffy on the characters, I'm only a few pages in so I hope they'll grow on me.

Christy (christy_kennedy) | 184 comments Finished The Curse of Tenth Grave (Charley Davidson, #10) by Darynda Jones . What an exciting and hilarious addition to this great series. This book harkens back to the first four books with its snark and humor and writing style that I felt was missing off and on from books 5-8. Dirt on the Ninth Grave was more of a bittersweet and sometimes heartbreaking book, but brilliant none the less. Love this series. Anyway, on to Vampire Fire (Vampire for Hire, #12) by J.R. Rain . Another wonderful series.

I am also writing a perspective based novel based on The Last of the Mohicans. It's Alice and Uncas's tale. Anyone interested in being a beta reader for me so far?

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) Finished Something from the Nightside (Nightside, #1) by Simon R. Green Really enjoyed - rated 4 stars and highly anticipating listening to the next book in the series.

Finished The Veil (Devil's Isle, #1) by Chloe Neill Rot & Ruin (Rot & Ruin, #1) by Jonathan Maberry .

I ended up rating both 3 stars for different reasons. Rot and Ruin was good, well written, i like the story, and for the most part the characters (though I took a while to warm up to Benny) I liked that even though Benny was the MC he was by far the most badass or interesting. It's nice to see all the action from an out side point of view. So why only 3 stars? simple, the narrator could have done a better job. I found his emphasis on the characters emotions and actions to be bland and boring. Otherwise it was enjoyable to listen to - but I will be reading the next book instead.

The Veil had all the potential. Great set up, wonderful location, fascinating premise, but the characters to me were very.....been there, done that. I should have loved them, but they felt like the same cut out copies of a billion other characters. It was close, like i said i should have like them, but there was just something missing that held them back from being excellent characters that i could love. which is unfortunate. Also there was all this crazy going on at the end, then they drop this personal bomb on our heads which i thought was ridiculous, maybe should have waited for the next book? or done it earlier? either way it completely pulled me out of the story, a very wtf moment. still an enjoyable enough read, don't think I'll be reading The Sight though.

message 36327: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments Ashleigh, I'm glad you mentioned listening to a book. I just want to let people know that most libraries will provide free audio books for people who are visually impaired. My late husband was blind in one eye and nearly blind in the other. He received free audio books, and it made a huge difference for him. I don't want to get political here, but I hope that book lovers will support their local libraries. Too many are sadly under funded. Especially now when people are using more electronics for reading. Libraries are hugely important, and we need to support them and teach our children that they are as important to living as a good life as schools, hospitals, or any other institution we support.

Claudia Ayala (claudia_ayala) | 149 comments Finally finished Danikka Dark’s Seven series with Charming (Seven, #6.5) by Dannika Dark and One Second (Seven, #7) by Dannika Dark . I really enjoyed them, what was a good thing after I tried to read a couple of very popular and high rated series that left me frustrated. One of them was Richelle Mead's Georgina Kinkaid series; read Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid, #1) by Richelle Mead and Succubus on Top (Georgina Kincaid, #2) by Richelle Mead and they were too boring.

Also read Maria V. Snyder's Study series. She created a rich and interesting world and very good characters but the action was very repetitive.

Loved The Curse of Tenth Grave (Charley Davidson, #10) by Darynda Jones and Allegiance of Honor (Psy-Changeling #15) by Nalini Singh .

Rock Wedding (Rock Kiss, #4) by Nalini Singh , Beautiful Oblivion (The Maddox Brothers, #1) by Jamie McGuire , Stranger in My Arms by Lisa Kleypas and Kiss an Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips were ok.

Our library is great, its connected with all the other libraries in this area. They only charge if you want to put a 'hold' on a book (which i admit is a little annoying and where most of my fee's come from - but if they use the $ to get more books i can't complain) or late fee's.
Plus you can donate books to the library and sometimes they sell books for really cheap (I guess when they have to many copies). I'm not sure how large the audiobook selection is at my library but it and the 'large print' section have quite a few options which I personally think is brilliant! I know a lot of the elderly population utilize them. It's important to have options :)

Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments Ashleigh, we also have a great library system in and around Columbus Ohio. When my son was little he went to all the summer programs at the library. They would often have authors who wrote children's books come in to read to the children and answer questions. They also would have puppet shows, games, reading contests, etc. It was a great way to keep the children in the "learning" mode while having fun. I have a very deep love of libraries.

Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments I just finished reading the first book in the Dragon Gift: The Huntress series by Linsey Hall. I'm starting on the second book. I absolutely loved the first book. The characters are interesting and the story line is great. The three women characters are all kick a$$, and the man main man character is strong but not over bearing. It's a terrific series.

Art (aka Whistler Reads) (art-whistlerreads) | 30 comments Hi Danielle, I'ld suggest a reread or at least a skim thru before that "City" . I'm presently reading RobynPeterman, just finished a couple of AnnCharles series, moving next to JulieJohnstone, followed by revisit to MarieForce, she's added a few, and I'll probably start at the beginning and skim to establish milieu.
