Yes, it was clear that it was Rachel insisting on things as they were so that his power could be maintained and I'm sure she felt that was best for his people and the rest of the world. (view spoiler)[ But it just seemed so archaic that I would have liked to see them work to change attitudes, instead of going with the status quo. It was soooooo good! I really loved it... I wasn't sold on Jaime at first but.. Holy hell the man has RUINED me!!! Both of them did an amazing job with the characters I thought...and there were some scenes that I thought were better in the movie then the book... I wanna see it again lol

Nalini Singh is one of my favorite authors! Have you read the first book in that series, Angels' Blood?
You should also try her Psy Changeling series, starting with Slave to Sensation - so good :)
