Barbara | 7 comments I've just started Succubus Blues about Georgina Kincaid written by Richelle Mead. I'm on a big paranormal romance kick. Loved the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. One of my favs.

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments See that's what I want in a book; where characters are so strong you can't put them out of your head. People can say what they like about Stephanie Meyers but Edward lives and breathes, so does Alice and the minor characters. I read LJ Smith the other day because everyone said they were better and while they were nice stories, I can't remember the characters names (bar Ash, he was cool) never mind what their story was.

message 2454: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Ah, I think I read one of the Smith novels way back when. It was okay, but not the kind of YA that translates across different audiences like Twilight.

when i read twilight series they had that effect on me too::adrian phoenix ditto*in the blood* is the only book i've ever read back to back in full without skipping any scenes:: read it twice thru in 5 days and it haunted my for days after::

message 2456: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments I usually love YA books but there was no connection for me with the characters which made me wonder why the Smith fans got so angry with Stephanie; then again, Twilight is a big fad right now and everyone seems to be going Twilight mad and Smith came out earlier so maybe that's why that is.

message 2457: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments So getting Adrian Phoenix now! Just as soon as I raise some euro.

so far so good

Lily (lilithesque) | 217 comments I liked Bloodring (Thorn St. Croix, Book 1) by Faith Hunter . Great series about angels.

Yeah, I heard so many good things about her that I bought the first omnibus books in three of her series when I found them at a bookstore in the States. I read the first in the vampire one and wasn't overly impressed. The characters don't really have any depth to them and I'm surprised that with all of the amazing YA paranormal books out there today that her series was the one that was optioned for a tv show. I don't mean to say that it was bad, I just think there are a lot of stronger series out there.

Oh, and I'm sure you'll love Adrian Phoenix - the books are amazing!

I think the really strong series will be made into Films. I'm hoping Mortal Instruments and maybe Skullduggery Pleasant get made into films because that would be cool and there's less of a likelihood to stray from the overall concept of the book. If they make a series, like they did with Gossip Girl (this info is taken from the internet because I've never read nor watched the show) then they could just change a lot of the characters around and do whatever they want in the desire to create a more interesting storyline.

message 2462: by Witch (new)

Witch (nozomiviridae) | 20 comments I just finished The Becoming by Jeanne C. Stein. It's about a bounty hunter named Anna who was assaulted and turned into vampire. Because, Donaldson, the man who turned her, captured a human friend of hers, she hunts to save her friend and kill Donaldson. It's okay, I'll continue reading the series.

Hey Stephanie I am reading
Goddess of the Sea its under paranormal kinda of like the "the little mermaid" so far its on the romantic cute side a fun read I would say for a paranormal. I am around page 100 I like it.

Maria FantastikaRomance | 5 comments I just started on The demon´s daughter by Emma Holly. It´s my first Emma Holly book. Previously I have read a short story of hers in Hot Spell and I really like her way of writing. Sort of slow and warm...

Her characters are interesting and believable and I do like her world where the Yama, the demons, are very like us but then again not.

message 2467: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments City of Souls, by Pettersson. It's not supposed to be out until late June or early July, yet there it was at B&N.

It's about agents of light and dark, where identities are based on the Zodiac.

No vamps, no weres! It's very unique in its worldbuilding, but there's something a little off about the series. Maybe it's just the abstract nature of their powers. City of Souls is book 4 of the series.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments Stephanie, how about Christine Feehan's GhostWalker series, Richelle Mead's Georgina Kincaid or Rachel Caine's Weather Warden series?

message 2469: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Stephanie, there's a ton. Just look at people's shelves. You'll see demons, succubi, etc.

message 2470: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Terri Garey's series is a good one.

message 2471: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Walker (wykedgoddess05) | 10 comments just finished , LKH " skin trade" & Adrien's Ashes of Midnight, and now on to Christine Warren's " the Demon you know" A little slow so far .. the first 2 really sucked me in...

message 2472: by Evangeline (new)

Evangeline (evangeline9) | 12 comments I am almost done with the ninth book in the Anita Blake series, Obsidian Butterfly. I read LKH's Merry series before Anita because I had only heard bad things about Anita, but so far so good. After I finish Anita I think I am gonna start Jeanine Frost's books because I've heard good things about them, I am ready to meet this Bones guy! Even though I have 8 books left in Anita before I get there...

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 386 comments I'm almost half way through Fantasy lover, it's OK, think I was expecting a bit more sex though. Can anyone tell me if they get better (i.e does the sex improve)??

message 2474: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Charlotte, there's sex in all of them, but SK is not one to sacrifice plot for a quickie. She only puts in a sex scene when it makes sense to the story, and she allows the characters time to know each other first, so while there are steamy scenes, there aren't that many in each. She's almost more like Urban Fantasy with a happy ever after. But so many of her heroes are yum. Especially the first few books of the series. Keep going til you get to Valerius. He is deelish.

Read the next one, with Kyrian, and you'll have a much better feel for the series on the whole, since Fantasy Lover doesn't touch on the Dark Hunters at all. It's more of a prequel book.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments Finished the audiobook for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies yesterday and loved it. Hilarious take on a wonderful classic and brilliant narration. I also finished up the third Darkyn book, Dark Need, and while it started off good, I wasn't overly impressed with the story over all. I'm ready to get back to Georgina now, determined that Seth won't let me down this time (but not overly optimistic based on a few comments I've read). So I'm off to lunch and to start Succubus Heat

Thanks Michelle, Julian's starting to grow on me (especially now he's had his hair cut). I definately try Night Pleasures when I'm through with this one.

I was in Target yesterday and wandered through the book section, I feel like I have a magnet where books are concerned. I'm looking around and sitting all by itself was "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies". I had read what you'd said about it and almost laughed out loud and bought it. I don't know when I'll get to it, I'm reading Lora Leigh's Breeds series. I'm on Harmony's Way now. I really like the plot in this series. Also the characters follow in the next books.

message 2482: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Reading Midnight's Daughter by Karen Chance. Usually I'm a little sick of the in-your-face, stubborn kick-ass heroine but it's totally working for me in this book. I may have a teensy little crush on Dory. And Louis-Cesare - yum! If you've read the Cassie Palmer books and were missing him/wondering where he went, you must read this book! He has tripled his yum factor.

this may be just the first book of the series but i liked it more the the cassie palmer ones, not that i didnt like them, too bad its gonna take a while for the next one to come out.

message 2484: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Chance has said that the UK publishers are still planning on the original release date for Death's Mistress, which I believe is October. The US publishers have pushed it to January 2010.

Methinks I'm gonna be doing a lil overseas purchasing. I'm too impatient!

I'm so addicted to the non-stop action of both series.

And Nichole, she may be hard-ass, but I think Chance does a great job of adding enough vulnerability and realism to Dory so you can't help but like her!

I started Melissa Marr's Ink Exchange last night, and I'm loving it so far.

message 2486: by Sue (new)

Sue | 43 comments Reading Over My Dead Bodythe last in the Broken Heart Oklahoma Vamp series. I am anxiously awaiting the next one whenever that may be.

message 2487: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Hmm, Michelle, I may be doing the same. October is way better than January.
I read about that, and I got the impression that the book is done. So I'm wondering why there are no excerpts on the web site yet!

I dunno. Tragic, really.
:(

message 2489: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (Kharys) | 1 comments I'm in the midst of Charlaine Harris' All Together Dead which I believe is the seventh book in the series. I initially started the series because I loved HBO's TrueBlood which I've noticed is loosely based on Harris' series. It starts out with vampires and shapeshifters, and has brought in witches and faeries, and more vampires and shifters with some romance and mystery. (I know, a lot of and's... sorry!) Good book! :)

message 2490: by BJ Rose (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 443 comments I'm reading Blood Brothers by Nora Roberts. Really starts out with a bang, and then another and another. Not sure I want to read this one at night!

message 2491: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jnhart) I'm reading Divine by Choice by PC Cast and Into the Flame by Cristina Dodd.

Just finished Prince of Dogs by Kate Elliott.

message 2494: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 208 comments I have started Beneath A Blood Red Moon

message 2495: by Jessa (new)

Jessa Slade (jessaslade) | 114 comments Fangirl, I'm eager to hear about Naamah's Kiss. Some of Carey's books are yearly re-reads for me and I'd love to add another to that shelf.

I foolishly started Patricia Briggs' Moon Called. I read Bone Crossed out of order and really enjoyed it. So I went and snagged the first three Mercy books. I wasn't supposed to start them until I finished some other work, but I am weak :) Now I'm sneaking pages every free minute I get. So I'll have to re-read the whole thing again to really savor it. Not that that will stop me from reading it now, of course :)

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 386 comments Just over halfway through The Darkest Pleasure, still not as good as The Darkest Night, but then I have a huge crush on Maddox.

I'm also trying to figure out why Amazon have cancelled my pre-order for The Darkest Whisper!!!

message 2498: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Bizarre.

message 2499: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I've had that happen with Amazon and sometimes it's because there is a change in the release date. I think what happens is instead of editing the original data to change just the release date, the whole record is deleted and a new one created. I always got e-mails that allowed me to accept the change in my order. I've also had cancellations because the change came a long time after my pre-order and they didn't bother to ask if I still wanted it. Not sure what's going on over there, but I buy 90% of my books from them and pre-order half of them, but I've yet to figure them out.

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 386 comments The e-mail I got says their supplier has told them it's been discontinued or withdrawn, so I'm guessing the release date has been put back, but the website doesn't say that - just says it's not available.

I'll just wait and see what happens.
