One of my favorites, right up there with Kate Daniels.

Christine | 1127 comments I'm nearing the end of Spider's Bite (Elemental Assassin, #1) by Jennifer Estep . I really like the world she's built in this book and her lead character. It's nice to see an assassin who accepts herself for what she is and isn't guilt-ridden and constantly bemoaning her life.

I liked this series too except for how she kept telling us who she is and what the spider rune means every chapter.

I think the other books in that series are better. I didn't even like the first one, but I had already bought books 2 and 3, so I read them and actually enjoyed them. But it is a mixed bag series for me. Some I really enjoyed and some I didn't care for.

Have you tried Eileen Wilks? Few people seem to have read her series. First book is Tempting Danger, although I consider it more UF than PNR. Nalini Singh and Shannon K. Butcher are two of my favorite PNRs.

That's so cool. After reading these books, I really want to go visit that area. I love it when authors tie their books so closely to their settings. It's like the reader gets to know the area, lol.

I noticed that this book even comes with a map!

Now I'm listening to Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy, #1) by Kiersten White . It started out like a bubbly ya book, but as it turns out there is a lot more to it. So far, I'm pleasantly surprised.

And in less than 10 hours (yes, I'm counting) I get Tangle of Need (Psy-Changeling, #11) by Nalini Singh , which I am very, very excited about.

I will reveal my total geekiness and admit that I keep a spreadsheet of the series I've read, complete with upcoming release dates. My friends always ask me when the next book comes out in a series and I usually know. Wow, I'm such a geek.

message 23932: by Christine (new)

Christine | 1127 comments I finished Spider's Bite (Elemental Assassin, #1) by Jennifer Estep . I really liked it, but it wasn't perfect. The first half was an easy solid four star read, but I still don't quite get the point of Donovan Caine. (Any why does she almost always refer to him as "Donovan Caine" instead of just as "Donovan" or "Caine"?) Maybe he's the male equivalent of all those women in the James Bond movies: he's just there to serve as a hot body for the random sex scene? But I did enjoy it and will definitely continue with this series.

I'm still plugging away at it, but it's not something I'm enjoying. Usually I finish a book in 1-2 days max. It's been 3 and I'm only 60% in. Good news is my house is clean. I've been avoiding it. LOL

After reading the first book I would have never believed that this series would become one of my all-time favorites. But it really improves with every book and now I'm very impatiently waiting for the next one. And hey, the first book had 'here kitty, kitty' so it wasn't all bad. :)

The first couple reads got me so aggrivated bc the repetition like names, descriptions and placements of her 5 knives, etc. that said, I loved the characters...some... and I thought the plot had great potential. 5 bks later, I'm still staying on top of that series and waiting patiently for the next read!

Yeah, it was about half way through that I also started noticing the repetition. Every time she walked into her apartment she looked at the sketches of her families ruins, every time she'd go out to fight she had her 'five-point arsenal', etc. The saving grace was that at least most of it was minor details that some readers might not even notice, rather than major plot points. I hate it when the author hits you over the head with hints about the bad guy to the point it becomes insulting. Since it was mostly minor points, I can overlook most of it. I'm just hoping Donovan's character is developed more if he's going to continue appearing in the series. I didn't get much of a feel for him in this one. But I really liked Gin and the world the author has created.

and yes, Christine, I'm crossing my fingers for a Kate/Curran cameo.
