Kyle Borland (kgborland) they are!!! I must go read then :P

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) @ Michelle yes the pregnancy scare was ridiculous. I couldn't believe she did it a second time in Blood Noir. It was like come on LKH your better than that. I also miss Larry and Anita going out on cases fighting some big bad ugliness. It's time for Anita to get control of the ardeur and move on. I'm really sick of all the weak men crying to be in her bed it's so pathethic, which is why Jean Claude and Micah are my favorite. They seem to whine the least. I can't wait for skin Trade to arrive. I hate ordering from my Book Clubs they take so long to ship New Releases.

message 2253: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Yes! Control, and then let's examine those powers! Only on p17, but lookin good so far!

message 2254: by Kyle (last edited Jun 03, 2009 08:51PM) (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) I don't know about Jean Claude not whining. About 100 - 150 pages into the book you'll understand what I mean :P

In this book it seems like she has a really good handle on the ardeur so far. I don't know how long that will last but so far she is doing pretty good. I think LKH had to start leaving the ardeur problem behind because it was getting repetive and she had all this great other plot lines to close and others to open :)

Yeah I hate the whiny men. Though I seem to be the only one who sympathizes with this character but I feel really bad for Richard :( He's like the only one who deserves to whine :P

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) WHAT!!! Richard deserves I think not! Please explain because you have left me with my mouth wide open. Lol

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Insert to whine after deserves stupid phone won't let me edit.

message 2257: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments LOL! I had a small degree of sympathy for Richard in the very beginning, when they were dating and Jean Claude kept being persistent. I lost all sympathy quickly after that.

He's just...Ugh. Don't get me started with the pigheadedness and chauvinistic attitudes. Trying not to be spoilery for other folks, but I'm hoping that after the events of the last book, he'll get his shit together.

message 2258: by Kyle (last edited Jun 03, 2009 09:10PM) (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) Well, I mean he's an ass but out of all of the guys wouldn't he be the one who gets to whine and complain? He had Anita, she was his. Then JC came along and the marks and fucked everything up :P Then the ardeur showed up and all these different guys started popping up in her life.

All these men were pathetic men with no backbone adn wouldn't stand up to her so anything she asked them to do, they did. Richard actually doesn't give her everything little she wants which I respect.

I'm not saying he's not an ass, or a chauvinistic pig but I'm just saying I can kind of sort a sympathize with him because of the situation. Thats probably how any normal guy would react to this situation.

Mind you most guys wouldn't bitch about being some super powerful werewolf all the time but still :)

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Hmm I can see where your coming from but JC had Anita first and somehow he wiggled his way in. I think that's why I don't like Richard because I feel like he ruined what could have been b/t JC and Anita. I love/hate Richard but at some point he has got to man up and accept whp he is. He a freaking Ulfric and all he seems to do is whine. Blah he gives me ulcers.

message 2260: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Lol! I love it.

I have to agree on the fact that it's nice that someone talks back to her. I'd like it more if he didn't sound like a BRAT. I guess we just have to depend on Jason and sometimes Nathaniel to be the ones to tell her off. I'd like somewhere in between calm logic and brattiness though to wake her from her often self absorbed stupor.

message 2261: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) Jason does a pretty good job at bringing her down to earth I'll give him that. Maybe its a werewolf thing :P Nathaniel only stnads up to her when he wants to do BDSM. :P

I hope LKH starts writing richard more appealingly because he could be a better character if she tried. She says he is not based off her ex-husband but I think she is lying lol

Well JC never had anita officially until thye started sharing :P Which was weird in and of itself :P

message 2262: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Yes! He's Ulfric! He could be an awesome character if he manned up. Sigh.

Hey, what's wrong with sharing? A little of this, a little of that...variety is the spice of life.

message 2263: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) Well that sharing didn't bug me much but once more people started getting added on...then it bugged me :P

You know what character bugs me the most? Asher. That little whiny bitch gets on my nerves to NO end :P

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Lol Richard wants to be *normal* Normal in his book doesn't equal sharing. I'm liking Cookie Monster/Haven he seems like he'd be a guy to put Anita in her place. I think I've said this somewhere else but Anita is the truly strongest character in that series. We definitely need a strong male character. Richard would be perfect it he just stop trying to be completely human and embrace his wolf.

message 2265: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) I agree, with your thoughts on Richard. He could definitly be the dominant guy in her life if he just embraced his wolf.

Though, Crispin just came into this story :D. I didn't think that would be much of a spoiler sense everyone knew she was in vegas and probably going to be seeing the tigers :)

Crispin doesn't seem like such a bad character but he also seems like he is one of those whiny characters? What did you all think of crispin?

message 2266: by Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (last edited Jun 03, 2009 09:55PM) (new)

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Lol@ Kyle IA Asher is so f'ing annoying. Ok your scared get over it and stop whinning about how JC won't give you any sheesh. Requiem is another one pisses me off with his whinning as well. God you'd think Anita has gold b/t her legs with all those men whinning to get a taste.

message 2267: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Ha ha! Funny, because when Asher isn't whining and in his bad ass mode, he's completely my favorite. And frankly, if you want to talk about someone entitled to whine, it's him. Gets left out in the cold because someone's a prude. JC was his first!

And totally spot on on needing a strong male lead. It's why I love Edward.

Cookie...is he in this book? Because I loved the short glimpse of him earlier in the series. That little peek and I was thinking he could be my new favorite.

Keep in mind I'm on p33 if you answer, Kyle! No spoilers!

message 2268: by Kyle (last edited Jun 03, 2009 09:51PM) (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) LOL Jael...too funny :D

Edward is my favorite guy in the series, hands down. Thats why this book is so good so far. And Olaf is...well yall will see. He gets...you know what..you'll see :P

So far he isn't in the book. D:

Should we just make a SKIN TRADE topic?

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Man I wish I had my book. I love Edward. his book was enjoyable. I liked seeing that diffrent side of him. Olaf is the best most creepiest character introduced in this series. He is creepier than belle morte in my book.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) LOl yeah because I think we are filling up the what are you reading? now thread.

message 2271: by Kyle (last edited Jun 03, 2009 10:05PM) (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) yes yes he is. Bella Morte is just bad ass in my opinion. She has everybody whipped..its hilarious.

I will go make that new thread :)

jeanie lepore (jylepore) | 32 comments Just finished Demon Mistress. Good read in this series. I like that there iss a little bit of everything in it. Vamps, shifters, demons, fae, dragons, You name it it's in there.

Lauren | 208 comments Started Passion Unleashed last night. I really love this series by Larissa Ione. I can't wait for the next one to come out.

message 2274: by Kathy (new)

Kathy | 65 comments Will soon be reading Atlantis Unleashed by Alyssa Day. I read part of Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs by Molly Harper. It was OK but a little too light. At this time I am reading Demon Mistress and I have to say that I really like this series.

message 2275: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany | 4 comments I'm on the third book of The Morganville Vampire Series by Rachel Caine.....LUV them!!!!!! Short and sweet reads.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments Tiffany, I couldn't agree more. I read the first five Morganville books back to back while on holiday in the States and I devoured the latest one Tuesday. Each book reads like a chapter of an overarching story to me.

All of this talk of LKH's Anita series (which I'm mainly skimming so as not to learn anything), makes me think I may need to go back and give it another shot - having only read the first book. Maybe I can fit them into a challenge next month.

For now though, I'm back to the world of Faythe and Marc, reading Rogue with plans to follow it up with Pride so that I'm ready to go when Prey comes out next month!

Started The Darkest Kiss last night. I loved Maddox, but now I'm leaning on Lucien. lol

Reyes has been my favorite so far - book wise, but I'd quite like to see Torin's story.

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 386 comments Barbara wrote: "Charlotte, I finished "The Darkest Night" last night. I loved it. Maddox was amazing. I have "The Darkest Kiss" that I'm going to start soon. This is already a favorite series of mine.

I've made a start on The Darkest Kiss, but I can't get Maddox out of my head!!!

I'm looking forward to The Darkest Whisper - Sabin's story, that should be good.

I just finished The Darkest Kiss. I liked Lucien, but not as much as Maddox. lol Sabin's story should be really good. I'm kinda looking forward to Paris' too. I read that Gena Showalter said she has started his but never likes where it goes, but that she plans to do a book for him.

Since I finished The Darkest Kiss I'm going to start Halfway to the Grave Actually, I have read 50 pages already and am hooked.

message 2283: by Linds (new)

Linds I just read Sherrilyn Kenyon's first book Fantasy Lover. Sherrilyn Kenyon seems to be a minor staple among this group and I wanted to thank you all for introducing her to me! It was fabulous and am so happy because she has so many books. I'm going to have a fun summer of reading in front of me.

message 2284: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) I'm reading Bone Crossed. I have a love/hate relationship with these books. I love the characters and the story line but I need a little more romance...okay sex. I need more sex in these books. There, I said it.

message 2285: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Oh, Lori. You are so not an Urban Fantasy girl. LOL!

message 2286: by Cathy (new)

Cathy (cathygreytfriend) | 53 comments Oh, but Lori is so right! I love Bone Crossed and the whole Mercy series, but it's a big tease in the sex department. One of the books literally ends with a huge tease, so mean!

message 2287: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) I am currently reading Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I haven't read any of the other Dark Hunter novels but my mom owns the Dark-Hunter Companion so I'm all caught up with whats going on...sort of. :P

Its really good so far and I see why this publication was such a big deal for the series :D

message 2288: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Grrr!! You people and your Acheron reading! You have to read the series! ::sigh::

message 2289: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 208 comments Michelle M. wrote: "Grrr!! You people and your Acheron reading! You have to read the series! ::sigh::"

Haha I agree you don't get the full impact of Acheron unless you start from the begining.

message 2290: by Kyle (last edited Jun 06, 2009 03:11PM) (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) But my library only has Acheron :(

...Fine...I'll read them in order :P

Then I am actually reading, Marked by P.C.Cast and Kristin Cast. I'm worried because I have heard mixed reviews about this series but I guess I'll see.

message 2291: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Lol.

Acheron is a great book. I've read the whole series in order though, so I could never imagine it as a stand alone. It's the culmination of so many plots and mysteries that I can't imagine understanding it fully without the whole series as background material.

It's a book that readers of the series ached for and it answers so many question and creates so many more that I can't begin to evaluate it out of context.
That said, MANY people on the boards have read it first and then backtracked to read the rest. They seemed to understand and enjoy it without the background material, so...

::shrug::

Currently reading Undead and Unwelcome. There is A LOT of recapping going on, which I don't think is really necessary in such an established series.

message 2292: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) Is that series any good? The series by MaryJanice Davidson?

I think reading them in order is best. If Acheron really was meant to be this huge deal then I should read the series and want to read Acheron for the same reasons the original fans did right? :P

message 2293: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Davidson is pretty funny, so if you like humor with your PNR then you'll probably like her. :)

message 2294: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments MJD is laugh out loud hysterical. The Undead series and the Alaskan Royals series are her best. Fred the mermaid is amusing. Based on the definitions of the genres, it's really more UF chicklit than PNR, since there's no HEA. I love Queen Betsy...she's so crass.

On the Dark Hunters, each story does have a HEA, but Kenyon has created a substantial world with a lot of intrigue. The books definitely build upon one another and events are completely intertwined. In terms of Acheron, he's this very mysterious figure throughout the series and not even his closest friends know his exact origins or powers, so his book had a LOT of build up. I don't think any of the books can be real stand alones, except for Fantasy Lover, because each one is like a piece of a puzzle.

message 2295: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) I'll have to give MJD a try :P

I just checked my libraries website and they have Fantasy Lover in but...it must be miss placed or someting :P

message 2296: by [deleted user] (new)

I love MJD. Just started the Undead series and I love it.

Fantasy Lover is more of a stand alone but I'm glad I read it first. It's the book that got me addicted to the Dark/Were/Dream Hunters. :D

message 2297: by Christy (new)

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) | 160 comments I thought the first book of the Undead series was original and clever...And then I read the next...and next...and next...And she created her own cliches.

What a master at her craft.

message 2298: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments LOL. I haven't read the Undead series. I did read her Wyndham werewolves series -the first two are novellas in the Secrets anthologies and the latter's a novel- and I liked those. I particularly liked the first one. Heroine was strong and funny, and the werewolves were cool. Plus, there was an HEA, LOL.

I totally agree with Lori. I love the books, but would it be such a terrible thing to throw in a sex scene or two?

message 2300: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments I actually found it kind of refreshing that the Mercy Thompson series had the relationship progress in "real time." It's one of the reasons I love the series. It doesn't fall into the formulaic with the alpha male ravishing her. But that has much to do with it being UF, not PNR.

Actually, I also love the alpha as depicted by Adam. He's struck me as one of the most likable Were leaders I've ever read. He's definitely dominant, but is so fair-minded and his concern for his Pack is so apparent. He's a great departure from the overly aggressive, unyielding males that litter the genres. The Pack in Briggs' world seems like a true fusion of both human and animal sensibilities.
