You're not at odd. I think the series is great, it'll fall flat if you're looking for BDB's continuation or BDB's intensity. But if you're reading the series by itself, it's has all the potential to be a great series. I loved it and can't wait for the next book.

Beth, I'm sorry to tell you, there's no Brothers' connection, sorry. Now I understand why some authors write under different names, lol. That said, I think JR Ward has done an amazing job with these two series. It still has a long way to catch up with the Brothers but it'll get there...but two separate storylines.

I can't think Wellsie is totally out of the picture, as much as he loved her...I think she has to have some involvement in the book, whether she is around in some way, or she lets him know it's okay to move on. The No'One romance does make sense, and I think it's a pretty cool idea if she does do that. It would bring everything full circle - John Matthew/Darius and Xhex, and Tohr and No'One....I read on her Facebook that for this book we needed to have tissues ready, so I'm sure there is going to be some heart-wrenching scenes , I'm guessing with Wellsie and Tohr. I liked Wellsie as a character - I hope we get to learn some of their backstory, like their courtship and what have you. I'm interested to see just exactly what Lassiter's deal is, as well. Wellsie sent him to Tohr, but we really don't know much about him, other than he likes bad TV, haha. Is it March yet?!?!

I hear you, that's why I stuck with the series. JR Ward, Karen Moning, J. Frost...so far are the authors I would read everything coming out from them. That's not to disrespect N.Singh, S.Kenyon, G.Showalter and many more...I just haven't gotten enough time.

Must be it. I started it thinking it was a completely different series and not expecting any carry over really then was pleasantly surprised with the side characters from BDB that showed up.

I agree about Thor. I was surprised the new book was going to be about him. He was so in love with Wellsie, I just can't see him with anyone else. It won't be right...

You can't help but feel that he still exude grief, still trying to put the pieces together let alone falling in love...but leave it to JR Ward, she'll make a believer out of us.

I like your thinking, Beverly. I know lots of readers are outraged about the Tohr/No'One pair up but J R has really given us heaps of backstory in Lover Mine about why they might be a good match. I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt till I read Lover Reborn... March is seeming ages away...

I guess it is all hitting home because I am listening to the audio version of Rehv's story and the parts with Tohr are just so sad. You feel his struggle. The part where he is dreaming about Wellsie and then when he has to drink from the Chosen for the first time. I was driving and crying all over again. I cannot wait to get more backstory on he and Wellsie.

I have a friend who absolutely loved this series, but it was just okay for me. But it might be worth trying the first book to see on which side of the fence you fall. I preferred Lara Adrian, Shannon K. Butcher, and Larissa Ione, to name a few.

Is Shades of Grey a PNR book?

message 17000: by Alisa (last edited Nov 04, 2011 01:24PM) (new)

Alisa (alisakayco) | 110 comments No, Shades of Grey is not a PNR book. It's a contemporary romance. Well, I suck at putting books into correct genres, but that's what I would count it as. There are some BDSM aspects in it, but it's not huge. I LOVE it and wholeheartedly recommend it.

As far as reading a good book and getting lost in it... I've gotten in trouble many times because I didn't clean for the day or finish dinner on time because I was so engrossed in a book LOL. I swear, when my kids want a snack again because they're hungry for the hundredth time that HOUR, I'll reply with, "Didn't I just feed you yesterday? What is this, a daily thing now?"
