Definitely not Gracie - you should be proud. I was just a little younger than you when I started my mad affair with reading. Think of it this way - you will be the most literate girl in your school.

My oldest son is 14 and he reads quite a bit too - for a boy. The catch for me is finding books that will interest him and getting him hooked. I try for series because once he likes the first book I don't have to force him to read the rest. He does it all on his own and very quickly I might add. He loved Harry Potter, The Eragon books, The Hunger Games, The Olympians just to name a few.

P.A. for me it was Nancy Drew and Phyllis Whitney. Also sneaking into the Judy Blume section of the library and reading the books we weren't supposed to with my friend Geri. Memories....

You'll like them. The good thing is there are a bunch in the series so if you like them you'll be able to go for awhile.

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 368 comments Wow I haven't thought about Sweet Valley High in ages! I loved them when I was a kid then I got hooked on Anne Rice about the time I was 15. I finished Unbound by Kim Harrison the story with Bones takes place right before he meets Cat. I enjoyed seeing him without her. I'm almost done with Bonded by Blood (Sweetblood, #1) by Laurie London and I started A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1) by Deborah Harkness

Funny I felt the same way with BDB. I'm a late bloomer with PNR and ER you see?...now I'm just making up lost time, lol. After reading Twilight Saga 4x, I accidently got my hands on Lover Avenged and I was imprinted with Rhev, my first adult PNR lover. Anyhoo, I finally understood the need for bookcovers, lol.

I know you didn't ask me, but I did read it. I loved it, SM really surprised me. Wasn't expecting much from her after Twilight but this story was very good, if I remember correctly I might have shed a couple of tears. It's still romance, but nothing like Twilight.

I really liked the Host but am surprised that there is a sequel coming. It seemed like a stand alone to me. They must have offered good money. I believe that she wrote The Host before Twilight, or did I hear wrong?

I am really torn about whether to add this to my TBR list because of the wildly differing reviews on GR. Is it like another series that you can think of so I can get a better idea?

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 407 comments Hi Denise,

A Discovery of Witches is probably not like a lot of the racier PNR like say Immortals After Dark or the Dark series by Christine Feehan, but is a much more literate, historical read with a slow burning romance. Maybe a bit more like the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon especially the later books, if you've read that. I really enjoyed it however despite its detail and length and think the set up for the next two books will be great reading.

I can't really think of a series to compare it to, it's quite different from everything I can think of at the moment. I'm only about halfway through at the moment, but I love how the author is building the world around the two main characters and all of the history they discuss. I did find it a little slow at the very beginning, but I quickly got into the story after that. I think though that it's the kind of book I would definitely borrow from the library first to see if I liked the style and story before I bought it. It is a little heavy on some unnecessary details, constantly describing food and wine and clothes. I am really enjoying it so far though.

Trish McCallan (trishmccallan) | 17 comments Question for everyone,

A couple of days ago, on one of the forums over here, someone mentioned a book. The title had moon in it, the cover had a huge moon and the face of a woman with blonde, maybe blowing hair. From the description it sounds like the heroine is psychic and the hero is a vampire? It was being compared to the Black Dagger Brotherhood. I forgot to write the title down and can't find it now.

Help?
