I won it on the giveaways!! (giddy) I would put up up there with the BDB series, could not say one bad word against it. Just got to wait for the next in series now... with no release date :-(

Jenn (jennbrown86) Haha, just noticed that you are the author of the Bound by Blood book which is also one I am looking forward to reading this week. Love to read first in series books, just hate when I know that a series is coming to an end. I put off reading the last book so the story never ends for me :-)

You still have several books to go. I saw the new In Death book in Barnes and Noble this weekend. It sounds really good. I am so amazed that after so many books she can still come up with new topics. Amazing!

I think it was your posts that initially piqued my interest in this series. I even purchased all 5 =) Now my aunt is getting twitchy for the last 3 but I guess she'll have to wait for Christmas when I see her next. I haven't gotten much past page 14 yet so I can't say what I think yet.

I know what you mean, I like when I discover a new book I love and there are 5 already out in the series so I can gorge myself. Although it's kind of fun to say that I read it first too. I just read whatever appeals to me at the time. LOL

Well my memory is pretty terrible and I'm a slow reader too. So to start a series that wont finish till 10 years later - I don't like to forget all the important stuff. And there are so many great books out there I am afraid to spend too much time re-reading things. =) So even though I'm neurotic, I sometimes have a reason that makes sense for it =)

message 16034: by P.A. (new)

P.A. Lupton (palupton) | 909 comments Vanessa, I know exactly what you mean. Luckily I read fast, especially with books like the BDB series. It drives me crazy to wait a year until the new one is released, and by the time it does come out I forget a lot of details. I've read that series so many times because each time a new book is released I have to reread them all to brush up and remember. WHy can't my favorite authors write as fast as I read?? LOL

The age old question P.A.

I hate having to wait for new releases as well. This is why I re-read so much. I need the fix from my favorte authors until they can give me something new to savor.

Speaking of - when is book 2 coming out for you?????

message 16036: by P.A. (new)

P.A. Lupton (palupton) | 909 comments Michelle, I'm hoping for Christmas if I can stop reading so much and stay on track. Last week I forbid myself from getting drawn into another book until I finished 5000 words. Instead, I decided to forgo sleep to read and stayed up until 3 am 3 nights last week to read a few books. At least I didn't do it during work time.
I'm still looking to join a group on GR called Readaholics anonymus. LOL

Michelle(Chelle) aka Nightshade - Cake Whisperer (michmag) Sign me up for that group as well.

I actually started a book of my own as well but I never get very far because I prefer reading to writing. I go in phases where I will write a chapter or two and then not touch the damn thing for 6 months. Needless to say it has been a work in progress for 3 years now. It doesn't help having a full time job and 3 kids. Maybe someday I will finish it so I can feel a sense of accomplishment.

I know nothing about publishing or what I would need to do but I figured I wouldn't think about those things until I can get a least half way done with it which at this rate may not happen in this decade.

Oh well, I will continue on with what gives me the most joy - reading!

I know how hard it is. I love writing, but it takes more concentration and quiet than reading, and quiet isn't always that easy to come by in my house.
I'm sure you'll finish one day--and when you do if you ever want any help I've learned a lot about publishing these past few years and I'd love to help you.

In the meantime I will live vicariously through the authors that have their act together. :)

message 16041: by P.A. (last edited Oct 10, 2011 11:25AM) (new)

P.A. Lupton (palupton) | 909 comments I'm not really sure. I have ideas for a few more right now. I guess as long as people want to read them I'll write them. I also have another first in a series I've completed but I haven't published yet. It's nerve wracking releasing a book--you never know if people will like it or not.

Well not everyone will like everything you write. That's just life. But if you write a book that gives you a sense of satisfaction. One that you feel you fulfilled the purpose of the book, then that is all that matters. If you feel you have written the best book you possibly could, it doesn't matter what others think. Unless of course you are writing for money, then it does matter what others think =) But I think of literature as more of an art form than a business. Not that there isn't work involved in writing a book ;) So far people really seem to be enjoying your book (I haven't read it yet) so congrats. =)

Also, have you found groups on here who help people get started writing? I've started like 2 pages and my general concept, but would love some tips!

Chantaal Blackout (Cal Leandros, #6) by Rob Thurman

Cal Leandros is a half demon, half human monster killer, and his relationship with his brother Niko puts the Winchester boys to shame. Cal is a great protagonist, there are a stellar cast of supporting characters, and it's one of my favorite series ever.
