message 15459: by Crazy4more (last edited Sep 24, 2011 09:56AM) (new)

Crazy4more (lan-ni) | 3071 comments I love Shadowflame (Shadow World, #2) by Dianne Sylvan ! How can I love another bad-ass human-turned-vampire Queen? David Solomon...that's why! When your husband is David, 350 YO and counting, he has fought, lived and loved...deeply. Only 3 three months in her new role, Miranda ready for ALL of his secrets? This book was filled with intense emotions: from such hatred that gagged me; long-lost-unfathomable love that will never be closed ached me; love so deeply from variety of facets that gave me hope; betrayal that baffled me and losses that wrecked me. What an amazing storyline told by an amazing storyteller!

I can't even think what to read next as I'm digesting the aftermath. Maybe I can get something done like grocery shopping, chores and take care of the necessities.

Wendy (pansgirltink) | 2 comments I agree about J.R.Ward's the Black Dagger Brotherhood, and the Fallen Angels series. Also look at Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunters series. These I feel are a good mix of some of the best-selling paranormal romance book series out there.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 407 comments I've just started Eternal Rider by Larissa Ione. I really like how it is a sort of a continuation of the Demonica world with a new set of characters.

I have got the Diane Sylvan books on my TBR, Crazy4more. The second book really caused a bit of a stir over on the Amazon boards, some hated it, some loved it like you. I think I will move it up the pile soon so I can make my own mind up.

Also have the latest Cat and Bones to get to...too many books, too little time...

I can see why people hated it. People attached, loved and wanted things to workout for our happy couple. I thought David's turmoil was real, beautifully and achingly written. It made sense to me that been 350 YO, he's gotta have relationships and skeletons hidden. Not that I approved but I can see it'd happened and to be touched by it was all due to the talented writting.

message 15471: by Sheree (new)

Sheree I strongly recommend you read Richelle Mead's Dark Swan series. It is mt fav out of all her books, very adult & highly addictive as is her Succubus series "Succubus Blues" being the first & also I finished a few wks back "Working Stiff by Rachel Caine, I loved it, it is the first in her new series

I loved Guild Hunter and can't wait to hear what you think of Shadow World series. It's great making friends thru popular books, it's greater finding friends thru controversial ones...it's fine-tuning similar interests...or is it just me? lol.

Michelle(Chelle) aka Nightshade - Cake Whisperer (michmag) P.A. I am so glad that you are enjoying Angels' Blood. I would have felt terrible if you didn't like it after I have been raving about it. I finished book 2 but had to jump over to Nightshade so I can complete the September Challenge. I hope to get back to book 3 in a few days and then read the new book Archangel's Blade (Guild Hunter, #4) by Nalini Singh

message 15478: by P.A. (new)

P.A. Lupton (palupton) | 909 comments Michelle, I am loving it--but still even if I didn't you should never feel bad about recommending a book you love. Everyone has different tastes. Besides I am so grateful to GR and my new friends here. I have read a few books now that I absolutely loved, and that I know I would have never picked up if not for the recommendations.

message 15479: by Christine (new)

Christine | 1127 comments Crazy4more wrote: "I loved Guild Hunter and can't wait to hear what you think of Shadow World series."

I read the first couple of pages of several different books trying to find something that could hold my interest after Archangel's Blade and Queen of Shadows was the one that grabbed me and had be keep on reading. I've heard that folks either loved or hated the second book, so I'm really curious to see what happens.....

I've a friend at work who reads the same type of books and we lend books back and forth. Even though we have the same basic tastes, it always interests me that sometimes we'll read the same thing and take two different things away from it. I guess that's shows the talent of a good writer: people can find things in the work that speaks to them in different ways depending upon their own life experiences. Of course, sometimes my friend is just wrong for not agreeing with me. ; D

message 15480: by Christine (new)

Christine | 1127 comments Michelle and P.A. I can't wait for you to read Archangel's Consort and Archangel's Blade! If you like Angel's Blood and Archangel's Kiss, I think you're going to love the next two. They are two of the best reads I've had this year. (Although I still have to put Rob Thurman's 'Blackout' at number 1. Romance is great, but I love me some Cal and Niko.)

Couldn't agree with that statement more. Sometimes I wonder when reading a book, if I were to read it again when things in my life are going different, will I have the same view of the book.

I agree with your statement. I just recently reread Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse, #1) by Charlaine Harris Originally I gave it 1 star and upgraded to 3 the second time I read it. Sometimes when I'm stressed my mind wanders and I have to reread pages--that's got to affect my enjoyment of a book. I've now promised myself I would reread some other books I didn't like just to see if I change my opinion.

Too true. I've also learned not to always judge a series by the first book. It seems like writing a really good first book in a series is really hard. Plus, sometimes the story or writing style is so different from what I read right before that I'm just not sure what to make of it, and it takes the second book to convince me that it really was as good as I thought.

You are so right, usually the second or third in a series is better. I think sometimes there's so much world building you have to do in the first as well that it's hard to get everything you want into that first book. You want the story to be about something specific, but you have to build it up or readers won't know what's going on.

It always takes me a few chapters to get used to an authors writing. My aunt I think re-reads the first two chapters once she's started, I think that is probably a good idea. That way it is easier to remember the new characters, and once you are in the authors flow, it is easier to understand the first couple chapters the second time around.

This is a Urban Fantasy series. Whip-smart writing, excellent character development - it hits the ground running, and it's one fun ride!

I just started on Bound by Blood - P.A. Lupton. Paranormal Suspense.
I'm on chapter 3 and can already feel the intensity building. I'm really liking the female lead - Brianna Reece. She is smart, strong, with a sprinkle of snark. I can tell this is going to be gooood. :)

@Christine - I have actually read Archangel's Consort before and loved it. I was re-reading the series to refresh my memory before I read Archangel's Blade. I loved Eat Love and Prey. It really brings Shanna's family into the story. I think though my favorite will always be Ian's story. I LOVED that he spent 500 years looking like a young kid and then grew up and didn't know how handsome he was. And when he said he wanted to find true love--that was so sweet. I've never seen a PNR that had a vampire age on purpose, it was original.

I'm half-way done and it has its conflicts and issues but no where near the craziness they used to have. Even they themselves agreeing this is their time to enjoy and get a little breather...not too good for us readers but I don't hate it.

I agree it's not as intense but still enjoyable. Jeaniene's characters alone are worth the read...I love Tyler and so do many other people. I hope he gets his own book eventually. If you like the Night Huntress books you'll want to read just to be introduced to Tyler.
