The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Yo. Reading A Rush of Wings, people, and it's totally living up to the hype thus far...

Like I needed yet another series to get hooked into! Man!

message 1202: by [deleted user] (new)

I so want to get my hands on an Adrian Phoenix book. Might be time to pony up at Amazon. Bummer...we were really looking forward to food and heat this month. Ah well.

Just finished Mercury's War. My lordy lord. I almost spontaneously combusted.

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Ramen noodles and cuddling for warmth are in your future!

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments Well, A Rush of Wings was just released in mass market, so it's even cheaper now. That should leave you with enough change for extra ramen noodles. ;)

I'm reading Terry Pratchett's Nation and Harry Potter 5 for class, both of which are fantastic. I've got to start reading Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely soon, so I can write a review for class.

And I'm unfortunately not getting any reading done other than for class.

I did start Bone Crossed, though... but haven't had a chance to read more than a few pages. :(

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments I started Dime Store Magic last night, as I resume my read through of the Women of the Otherworld series. I wasn't sure how much I'd like the books that weren't centered around Clay and Elena, but so far, so good. I'm also reading stories out of The Mammoth Book of Paranormal Romance (Am I the only one that was disappointed that the Sherrilyn Kenyon story is actually a Kinley MacGregor story - and only seven pages at that? False advertising, I reckon).

message 1207: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Yay, I'm so excited for the whole world to jump on the Adrian Phoenix bandwagon! New converts. (Rubbing my hands together...)

Yes, A Rush of Wings is out in mass market, which caused me quite the dilemma when I went to buy it because I already had the trade paperback of In The Blood. So I had to decide if I wanted to pay twice as much to have a matching set.
I decided to save myself a few dollars and bought the mass market version, but I'm afraid it's going to bug me... especially since I know I'll be buying book 3 as soon as it comes out, and that will be TPB as well.

I read You Slay Me for the "Who's Your Author?" March group read, and then every other book I planned to read this month got bumped in favor of continuing that series.:) So I'm currently reading Fire Me Up and LOVING it. I knew I would enjoy this series, but I was not prepared for how scorchingly hot the chemistry between Drake and Aisling was going to be... whooeee!

Brandy *Ahviel* (ahviel) | 257 comments Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, 1) , I just finished it last night, and I plan on started book two when I get off work in the next hour.
I am so excited, I feel like a little girl :) even though I am 27. haha

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments LOL, don't feel bad. I went completely nuts for the series when I discovered it last year. At least you won't have to wait too long for book 7. =)

message 1212: by Jess (new)

Jess | 173 comments I just finished Tiger Eye by Marjorie M. Liu, and I'm now looking into finding the next book in the series.

I have Second Skin sitting on my desk as well, I might start that some time soon. Can't wait to see what trouble Luna ends up getting herself into this time

I can't believe I never saw it before now, but now I am excited I did wait becuase book 7 comes out in april so it gives me the rest of this month to catch up. I feel sad though that it is going to end

message 1214: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) It will end eventually I'm sure, but book 7 isn't the last. There will be at least three more books after that (according to what JR Ward has said about which characters she definitely plans books for).
But you will have to wait for them, which always sucks.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments Yeah, I think that at this point she's said that the series is open ended, but there are still some planned books (I won't say who for, for those who haven't yet read the curent books). I can't wait for next month's release. BDB remains my favorite series.

LOL Michelle and Darkheart. Yes, that's a nice positive way to look at it...swapping power money for cuddle warmth. Will be a relief to poor hubby, who's been a very good sport about taking a temporary back seat to all the vampires, shapeshifters, panthers, leopards, werewolves etc etc suddenly in my life!

jeanie lepore (jylepore) | 32 comments Just finished several books Death's Daughter by Amber Benson, was one of those that could have had so much promise if not for the uniquely annoying main character. It wasn't a bad read but....
Also just finished The Shadow Queen A Black Jewels Novel, Which was a pretty good read, better than Tangled Webs, but not as good as the original Black Jewels triology (which is a must read IMO) However, I really enjoyed As Shadows Fade The Gardella Vampire Chronicles even though I wanted a different outcome. Angels' Blood is hopefully the start of a really great series.

message 1218: by Chasidy (last edited Mar 11, 2009 01:42AM) (new)

Chasidy I just finished reading Dream Warrior by Sherrilyn Kenyon and totally loved it of course. There hasn't been a book in her DH series that I havent obsessed about. There's too many books to choose from but I wanted to still read something within the paranormal genre so Im re-reading Dark Lover.

message 1219: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephanie_julian) | 108 comments Just started Eileen Wilk's Mortal Sins last night.

message 1220: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) Finished Pleasure Unbound yesterday. It was really good. One reviewer, who gave it 1 star I think, called it "literary porn". Yes, there was lots of sex...it's about incubus demons...hello! I have to just roll my eyes at those kinds of comments.

Last night I started Caressed By Ice. There's no question as to whether I'll like this book or not. I've loved the other two books in this series. This one has a male Psy which is a twist on the first two. Can't wait to watch him "thaw".

message 1221: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephanie_julian) | 108 comments Lori Caressed by Ice was my favorite of the series and I've read them all.

Ugh. Only people who have never read anything from the genre before would say that...
I hate when people trash books because they don't like the genre!!! If you don't like the genre, then say to yourself "hmmm, not my thing" and move on. Don't go posting nasty reviews of books that aren't helpful to anyone else, since most of us reading those reviews do like the genre! Grr. (I've already spieled about this on a different thread in a different group...)

Brandy, I really liked it. It wasn't my favorite book but I gave it 5 stars because it WAS hard to put down. I think I read it in two days.

I really love that series and I was sad when I heard that was the last book.

message 1227: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) I'm sort of reading and listening to Light My Fire by Katie MacAlister - I have the book at home, but was able to download the audiobook from a service my library subscribes to, so I can read at home and then listen at work.
I did this with Fire Me Up, and though I didn't like her voice for Drake much (she makes him sound kind of old and stuffy, which is not how I picture Drake), she was a great reader other than that.
However, this time she's really bugging me. I can hear her swallowing her spit all the time, and she takes big long pauses between sentences, and then takes these deep, noisy breaths before she speaks... it's really starting to get on my nerves. It's like I can almost hear the lipstick creating those little strings between her lips... yuck.

Oh and Nicole I got addicted to the series too just waiting on the mail.

But I am loving the dark hunter series and I am like why oh why did it take me so long to start.

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments That was sorta icky of me, wasn't it?

Now, Dawn. You know better than to mention the Dark Hunters when I am around.

Ahhhh, Dark Hunters.

::drooldrooldrool::

You know, I'm always expounding on the yum level. I'd like to take this moment to say that the actual stories are great.

Oooooh, those plotting gods and goddesses (not to mention their offspring). Intrigue! Action! Suspense!

We now return to our regularly scheduled program...

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) lol, Michelle.
Books 2 and 3 of the Dark Hunter series are on the schedule for March, I just haven't gotten to them yet... but they're sitting on my little shelf, waiting patiently.

Well, you must have the touch, because they most certainly did not wait patiently for me. They snarled at me, so I had to read them one after another like pringles, forsaking any semblance of a social life until I was done.

Seriously.

::GASP::

Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series. It's good vs. evil, yummy men, and a host of meddling gods and goddesses from many different areas of mythology. Awesome. Addictive. I adore it. Read it!

Oh the dark hunter series is fabulous.. and is my favorite out of all the PNR books I've read. The first starts off with Fantasy Lover.. and they just get better from there.

I have heard some people say they are getting tired of her writing, but I find that each book is unique with it's own developing plot. Plus the overall series has a plot line as well.

I was just looking the books up and printed the order that they should be read in. There is A LOT...
I have to get through my already climbing reading list before I start this series. I am afraid if I order these then I am not going to read what I have just bought.
But I have been reading some of the reviews and some have been saying that after the first 5 books they taper off in goodness

message 1237: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) Brandy wrote: "But I have been reading some of the reviews and some have been saying that after the first 5 books they taper off in goodness"

Oh that is so not true! Archeron was one of the best books I've ever read...period. There were some books in the series that I like better than others, but they were all good. I'm glad you printed the reading order because it is important that you read them in order. I did skip a few of the anthologies but read every stand alone. Enjoy them Brandy. We'll see you back here when you recover from DH addiction .

I try. I try.
_____________

To everyone else:
Wait, how many times have I now been complicit in making this thread about the Dark Hunters? Seems that conversation just keeps on comin' back 'round to them.

As it should.

Re: the variable quality of the books...I think the the Dream Hunter books are weaker (with the exception of Xypher's story), but there are still elements within them that are fantastic (i.e. Solin's blistering sarcasm). AND, information significant to the universe as a whole is often revealed in them.

All in all, I think it's like any other long-standing series--not every book can be your favorite, not every character can getcha' right there (thumps chest).

But looking at it as a whole, Kenyon's very commited to her world-building and on keeping the plots fraught with tension. She's also keen on interjecting new trials and tribulations for the "gang" to face. Also, even though there exists the formula of tortured immortal finds HEA with impertinent female, she manages to make every single character unique. After almost 30 books, that's a lot of characters.

Plus, the woman is so frickin' prolific lately. What's it been, one every six months?

message 1242: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) "Plus, the woman is so frickin' prolific lately. What's it been, one every six months?"

I think her web site said she can write a book in 2 weeks if she's focused... that's crazy. If I had every day to focus on writing, I think I could write maybe 95 pages in two weeks.

Brandy, You must read the DH books. Between the DH and Black Dagger Brotherhood, I'm ruined. They got me hook line and sinker. Yes some books are better than others, but that is far and few between. You will fall in love with eash one as you read about them. It's just how it is, accept it readily and you'll be fine. LOL

Yeah Yz, I'm afraid I'm part of that club too. I've given it a really good go, have read about five in the DH series including Dance with the Devil and I know, I know, it's almost heresy to say you don't like DWTD here ::grin:: but ah well. It's great that Kenyon has such a strong fan base though, and that there are so many books in the series so new readers have lots of material to go through.

message 1245: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 320 comments I did not think I would like it but for one of the reading challenges I went ahead and read Fantasy Lover and that was good and I saw Night Pleasures at the library and that was it I was HOOKED. I think the reason why people may not like the later ones is that she is still focus on the romance but it is not clear how things will or if they will work out like in the first few. Personally I like that I find it irritating that the same thing seems to occur in each book ...like the Carpathians for example...plus each book takes me closer to Ash's story which I am cannot wait to read.

message 1246: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Yz & Moss, it's all good. For my part, I can't stand Feehan, and I've given several of her books a try. Everyone has a series that they just can't get into, no matter the hype attached to it!

But I still love hearing everyone's likes and dislikes, digging through them to find new favorites!

Except now I have too MANY...

I'm in agreement with you. Michelle M.

I don't mind differencesin opinions when it comes to what we like or not like about books. As long as nothing is taken personally or even attacking an author just because you don't like her books, or attacking a person just because she disagreed. That kind of "trashing" I cannot stand for.

On the other hand, I enjoy reading opinions and recommendations. It gives me plenty of books to add to my TBR list...as if I need more..but its fun.
