For as long as she can remember, Katie MacAlister has loved reading. Growing up in a family where a weekly visit to the library was a given, Katie spent much of her time with her nose buried in a book. Despite her love for novels, she didn't think of writing them until she was contracted to write a non-fiction book about software. Since her editor refused to allow her to include either witty dialogue or love scenes in the software book, Katie swiftly resolved to switch to fiction, where she could indulge in world building, tormenting characters, and falling madly in love with all her heroes.

Two years after she started writing novels, Katie sold her first romance, Noble Intentions. More than thirty books followed during the years after Noble's publication. Her novels have been translated into numerous languages, been recorded as audiobooks, received several awards, and placed on the New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. She also writes for the young adult audience as Katie Maxwell, and for the mystery world as Kate Marsh.

Katie lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and dogs, and can often be found lurking around online.

Another Wednesday, another UF Buddy Read with the BB&B Group!

Aisling is not having an easy time!!! In fact, ever since she realized she has ties to the magical side of the World, she has met with nothing but trouble. Here she is, couple of months after her first major disaster in Paris where she met a now good friend, her "mate" Drake, and the most adorable demon in dog form, Jim, and she is moving in with a Guardian Teacher Nora, to whom she is apprenticing in London. It has become obvious that although she has a given talent for the Guardian thing, she has no clue what the job actually consist of and how to study in order to get better for it. Nora keeps giving her books and pamphlets, but as scattered and frazzle-brained as Aisling is, she never has the time to read any of them, since she is dealing with one mostly self-inflicted crisis after another!

"..."“I am, in general, an easygoing person. I try to take a reed-bending-with-the-wind attitude toward life, rather than fight everything. But these constant “out of the frying pan, into the fire, into a worse fire, into a worse fire than the worse fire before it” situations that had been riddling my life of late were beginning to wear me down”...

Just as she is getting ready to embark on her Guardian training, her teacher and now friend Nora is declared by the Counsel forbidden to teach, since there is an open investigation into her ethics. Aisling also naively believes that since she had decided to split from Drake at the end of the previous book, she is no longer his mate and will not have to deal with him as a distraction, he shows up to demand her presence at a congress of the Green Dragon Sect. On those occasions her role is just to sit next to Drake and be pretty, but she is not satisfied with that, of course, and things never co as they are supposed to... Between the war between the Sects, the Imps declaring a revenge war against her personally, the Demon princes who have been looking for her, the people in Paris who also want to claim part of her time, and someone or someones trying to kill her, her and the lives of those closest to her has become a complete chaos!!!

"..."“My life used to be boring. A damnation here, a curse there, with an occasional blight or two to break routine. Now I have Aisling...She's better than reality TV, Internet porn sites, and the trashloids all put together.' - Jim” ...

Yes, this book is one silly, slapstick, ridiculous comedy of errors, but that is its charm and I love it! Jim the Demon and Aisling's complete lack of problem-solving skills keep even the most perilous of occasions hilarious and thus you can't help but just relax and laugh at its absurdity:):):)!!! If you love chick-lit and do not mind a very air-headed heroine as your MC, this is definitely a must read. However, if to much silliness is just to much for your taste, don't even bother - stay away and feel warned! Aisling is a good hearted but not to bright 30-ish woman and her beau is couple of hundred years old Dragon in human form who is bossy, and pushy, and very much not a sensitive man, more like a complete chauvinist, but they make it work somehow:)

"..."“An interesting parade of expressions passed across Drake’s face.
I ran across the floor to him, putting my hands on his chest as I leaned into him. “Trust goes both ways, Drake. You have to learn to trust that I know what I’m doing.”
“It’s not your abilities I doubt,” he said slowly, his eyes dark. “It is not easy to let you go in this manner.”
“I know it’s not. But it’ll get easier. OK?”
The anger on his face faded into annoyance, which did a brief tango with stubbornness, and finally morphed into resignation.
I gave him a swift kiss. “That was a hell of a battle you fought, but I appreciate your faith in me.”
“I have always had faith in you, kincsem. It is all others I distrust.” ...

Now I wish you all Happy Reading and may you always find what you need in the pages of a good book!!!

Buddy read with the amazing Weekly Wednesday UF group over at BB&B.

“Aisling, this is not a game you play. You hold many people’s lives in the flat of your hand, and I fear that one day, you will destroy them without knowing it.”

Well to my total surprise I actually finished reading this without once wanting to kill my kindle, which is a total relief to both myself and my e-reader. For the most part probably because Drake had toned down his arrogance and asshole ways and also because this book felt a lot less silly than the previous two.

“Just leave everything to me.”
“Famous last words, Ash. Your record hasn’t been too good so far, has it?”

Aisling still gets into the most impossible situations which can be mostly attributed to her lack of smarts (I still have no idea how she has managed to live this long) and also because she seems to have the worst luck. Or maybe the best luck seeing as she still manages to not get herself killed although MANY attempts were made on her life in this book.

Jim her demon/dog is still my favorite character in this series and honestly the only reason why I enjoy any of it. And we finally find out what kind of demon he is which was surprising and wonderful. And we finally get our answers about just what exactly Rene (her taxi driver) is and no wonder he keeps on following her wherever she goes.

As for her love interest and the romance I’m still not impressed. Drake was definitely LOADS better in this installment but despite their numerous lusty encounters (which really isn’t very sexy AT ALL) I still cannot see their connection and why at all they would profess their love.

As for the plot or in this case numerous plots it seemed as though Aisling went from one dangerous situation to the next and just digging herself a deeper hole trying to get out of them. BUT this also made me look forward to reading the next book to find out how all of this is going to work out.

I can’t believe that I’m going to say this….I totally skimmed all the sex scenes of this book. This is a first for me. I usually really enjoy sex scenes in my reading in general but I couldn’t do it.

Let me explain:

Did you know that eyebrows when arched could be delicious? Or that your toenails could smolder. I did not and just felt like it was weird to read that. Also in the middle of trying to get it on the heroine pestered the hero to talk about all of his thoughts and feelings at that moment. LOOK, I pretty sure that is a ‘show me’ moment and not a ‘tell me’ moment, just saying. Also breathing fire anywhere near my girl parts is not okay same goes for boy parts too, I don’t have any but if I did I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t want fire anywhere close to them. Anyway I couldn’t do it and completely skimmed the rest of them.

I’ve figured out now that there will be 10-15 subplots going on at any given time on one of these books. The heroine is going to mess absolutely everything up, get kidnapped one or more times, accidently kill someone and then have to pay some large consequence and end up with more power than she had at the beginning of the book. Check, check, checkity-check, but wait there is more. No really there was so much more.

This book is really chaotic and scattered and I think my mind just doesn’t know how to deal with the A.D.D.edness of the entire thing. But overall I liked Drake better in this book and at least we got the 411 on Rene the mysterious taxi driver that is where ever Aisling is. Plus Jim gets a promotion and is going to take full advantage. The Dragon politics of things is still a bit fuzzy but at least a little light was shed on the Sept happenings.

Still we all chant “Aisling you do not understand” as she stumbles blindly through yet another book to barely make it out alive at the end yet again. But only one more to go in this series and I’m pretty sure anything can happen in the end of that.

Actual rating: 2.25

The good news about this series that I see improvement. Unfortunately it's not on Aisling's part. She's still the reckless, brainless twit. A lot of people are brainless, reckless idiots but they usually don't have too much influence and actual power. Unfortunately when they do get power and influence things tend to go downhill fast. Aisling is one of those people with power and the vacuum of space in place of a brain. She's the ideal puppet if you can figure out what makes her tick. And the only reliable thing about her is that she turns to goo when Drake's around. I was going to say she turns brainless but since that's her default state I don't think it's appropriate.

Talking about Drake, he was the one who showed improvement in this book. If you've read my review of the previous book you know that he managed to majorly piss me off. So when he showed up yet again I thought that I was in for another rage-inducing book full of his neanderthal ways. Imagine my surprise when he actually showed that he had listened to Aisling's complaints and was willing to try and change and do things in a way that suits them both. I was even more impressed when his showed up and he defended Aisling time and again. And at the end of the book he really blew me away by I really didn't expect that. I mean if I was him He's a totally different dragon than the one we left just a few (in-universe) weeks ago.

And that's my main problem with this book - inconsistent characterization. The two main characters of this series come off as bipolar (I apologize to everyone who actually suffers from this condition, it's just the only word that comes to mind that comes even close to describing what happens). The only real consistency is that Aisling is dumb but then BHAM! she shows incredible deducing skills just at the right moment to serve the plot. Which leads to my second major problem with the series - plot holes a mile wide and obvious (and by obvious I mean screaming at you Ï'm here, notice me") plot devices. This is a prime example of lazy writing and it's insulting to the reader. And if it wasn't for my buddy reading group I wouldn't have continued the series, despite being curious as to what

At times during this book I experienced the "oh this feels like a light-hearted fluffy read" and I kind of grokked what I was supposed to get out of it. But the continued incongruity of Aisling as a character made it impossible for me to empathize with her and time and again kicked me out of the suspended disbelief and into raging-at-book territory.

Jim's recap of book 1 and 2 explains this pretty well:
“Ha! Relationship. Is that what you’re calling it now? You two get together; you break it off. You get together again; you agree to be his mate; you take an oath of fealty to the sept; you get pissy; you leave him. Doesn’t sound like much relationship is going on there.”

This time London. It's about as much London specific as the previous books were Budapest or Paris. The setting happens in the imagination of the reader. But at least Aisling gets to see the cities of Europe, and whine about her "thing" with Drake. A lot.

“You know, normally I just can’t get enough of you whining about Drake, or crying over Drake, or ranting about Drake, or any of the other gazillion ‘about Drake’ things you constantly do because you’re obsessed with the man but refuse to admit it, but since you insist on starving this fabulous form I’ve taken simply because I’m a few pounds over the standard Newfie weight, I just don’t have the strength for it today.”

But this wouldn't be Aisling Grey if the moment that Drake appears all of Aislings betrayed feelings and resolve not to be involved with him go ... out the window:

One minute [Drake] was standing several paces away; the next he was pushing me up against the open door, his body hard and aggressive, mine automatically answering by going all soft on him. “You cannot be under any delusion that you can simply walk away from me.”
“I know I pricked your pride by leaving you,” I said carefully, telling my body to stop mugging him and to behave itself so I could concentrate on reasoning with the most unreasonable dragon in human form that ever walked the planet. “But there is nothing more between us, Drake. It’s over.”
“It is not…over…” he growled, his lips so close to mine I could feel the heat of his mouth. The scent of him, spicy and masculine and uniquely Drake, went immediately to my head and made me giddy with want. [...]
“Oh, man. He’s going to pork you right here in front of me, isn’t he? Jeez, and they say dogs have no shame.”

This is what's wrong with the romance part of these books. One minute everything is broken off, and she feels betrayed and the next she is giddy with want.

Drake sat silent, his eyes on me as his fingers rubbed his chin. The gesture melted the stone wall I’d tried so hard to build around my heart. I loved the man; that was the bottom line. And since that didn’t seem likely to change, it would be better for everyone if I stopped fighting that fact and focused on making it work.

What I just don't get is what makes her love Drake? It seems for Aisling it's enough that he's hot and his dragon fire melts her ... into a gooey pile of brain-slush. As far as I can tell so far they've only ever been having make-up sex or something akin to assault... And talking about the sex in this book. It has turned from "off-putting" to schooling. She's now giving out grades and brownie points.

Aisling to Drake: “Deal. I have a couple of things I want to know, but first, you get a big gold star and an A for the semester for the ice cube idea, although the next time it’s my turn.” [...] “That would be nice. And just so you know, this falls under the sharing category, so you get bonus points for doing it.”

The romance plot reads like somebody took a bad relationship advice column and tried to force it into a plot where the bits of pieces of "how to make it work" could be inserted at fitting points to educate the clueless reader. I am so not the target audience for "how-to-relationship" thank you very much. The absolute highlight is when Aisling states her terms for having a relationship with Drake, to go with the click-baity headlines "the last one really got me":

“One last condition,” I said, taking a deep breath. I was honestly surprised that he’d agreed to my conditions thus far. Maybe he had changed? Maybe the separation had done what I’d hoped it would—made him see I was serious about being a Guardian? Maybe we could live happily ever after, after all? “I want you to tell me what you’re thinking.” He didn’t move. Not even an eyelash trembled. “Why?”

I read romance to escape into fantastic, exciting and fresh relationships overcoming obstacles and finding sweet moments... it can be over the top like Burn for me and it doesn't have to be believable but the story has to have some consistent development not this eternal back-and-forth with sudden 180° turn-arounds. Even with Drake's ass-holiness much reduced in this book, Aisling parroting [insert random advice column] back at us... totally returns this to the realm eye-rolling-induced-migraines.

See I had to go through the book searching for "keywords" to find an example of what the sex scenes are like, because I skipped them all. They are long and ... weird. Example:

But there's more to this book than the failed romance plot. There is still Aisling the trouble magnet... with a refrain of everyone continuously saying "Aisling, you do not understand..." - but also nobody ever bothers to explain anything. So chaos ensues and by the midpoint of the book there are about 10 different subplots going on

Another quite accurate recap from Jim:

“You know,” Jim said, following us up the curved staircase. Nora and Rene, both with faces filled with questions, trailed behind us. “My life used to be boring. A damnation here, a curse there, with an occasional blight or two to break routine. Now I have Aisling.” I glared over my shoulder at the demon. It grinned back. “She’s better than reality TV, Internet porn sites, and the trashloids all put together.”

Luckily the subplots do get cleared up somewhere in the latter half one after another although most have little to no impact on the main plot except serving to make Aisling go places where something else happens or be late to places or enable her to be kidnapped by someone ... speaking of which: what exactly drives Fiat to his masterplan is unclear and confusing. But as someone said in the BBB forum: Aisling's cluelessness is probably infectious.

I added a star after being reminded by another review that this book does indeed have a few moments that really made me laugh outloud ... I wish there were more of those, the comedic potential is good, it should be more prevalent.

There's a lot of setup for book 4 and I'll read it because after having read 1-3 I kind of want to know what the end is going to be.

And I am off to read the conclusion to the Hidden Legacy so I can get Aisling out of my system ;)

I'm hoping there will be more of a personal connection with Drake in this one. I feel that I'm not getting enough info about him to really connect w/ him as a hero. Plus, I can't stand how he calls her "mate" and orders here around all the time. ***spoiler alert*** I KNEW that there was something otherworldly about taxi-driver Rene! I think Aisling can be a bit obtuse sometimes.

Well, I did end up liking Drake more in this one, but I still feel a disconnect. Aisling can tell us all she likes that he's great and all, but if the author doesn't write those scenes, how can I believe it? In this one, Aisling decides it's worth putting up w/ all his machismo because of his other qualities. I, for one, don't see what they are because we don't ever hear much out of him. Unless, of course, all she's talking about it the sex...

Aisling Grey is by far my favourite of all of the women in this dragon universe by Katie MacAlister! She is cute, sassy and the perfect female lead for this comedic, fantastical romance!

Drake and Aisling are definitely the "perfect" pair, at least in my eyes. Their relationship is definitely not "normal" by any means, but they work well together! As characters, they have the perfect mix of getting along, sexiness, and generalized drama and sassiness. I honestly couldn't see this pair with anybody else! However Katie made this pair, she did really well!

Aisling is becoming a Guardian, while her lover is a dragon. They have since "mated", so the story builds and gets more interesting from here. This is the second last book in the series for now, but I do hope we get more! Since I've read most of the dragon books, I can say she appears in future books but she isn't the lead.

The comedy in this book is spot on and amps it up from the last book. It definitely keeps the plot moving forward with lots of funny quirks, mixed in with the sexy Drake, super cute romance scenes and drama thrown in throughout. While the story does leave off in a place that feels like it doesn't need to be continued, I wish it would! These characters bond way too well together for this to be the absolute end. Maybe, if we're lucky, Katie will one day continue this series. So, cross your fingers!

I would definitely recommend this book to readers who love romance with a lot of comedy in it. The book doesn't take itself too seriously, with an abundance of jokes (and a lot of Jim, the main source of comedy, present again) throughout the book. The book has many fantasy elements (obviously - dragons), but isn't a purely dramatized novel. It's very fun, is borderline PG-13, and has ooey, gooey romance that makes you squirm and giggle along the way.

Overall, I love this book! I've read it way too many times to count and I'll keep reading it! It's one of those books I like to read when I'm having a bad day because it's just so much fun! Katie MacAlister is the QUEEN of dragon books!

Five out of five stars!

Riiiight...that ending...okay.. .book number four, I won't be seeing you. It was one frigging annoying soap opera!

I wanted for this book to be good, the first two gave me a good laugh but ...

I just don't know how to rate this book. Sure, there were parts that were funny and crazy as always. Aisling has even showed some maturity in a lot of situation instead of not accepting the facts and fleeing like she is used to. But the last forty pages or so were so exhausting. Mexican telenovela has less plots in one hundred sequels than this book in the last forty pages.

Book 3 in Katie MacAlister's Aisling Grey Guardian series (contemporary paranormal romance). This was a big step up from book 2 of the series. The plot was much more intricate with an insane number of challenges for Aisling to overcome:
Drake returns to Aisling's life and they attempt to come to a compromise they can both live with to stay together;
Her demon dog eats the king of the imps and the imps want Aisling's head;
There's a war brewing between the red and green dragons that lead to several assination attempts against Aisling;
Aisling's mentor is facing trumped-up charges that threaten to revoke her Guardian status, thereby ending Aisling's training;
A prince of Abbaddon (Hell) is after Aisling's support in overthrowing his competitors and threatening her life if he doesn't get it. The upheaval in hell is causing all sorts of outbreaks of demonic creatures on earth;
Aisling might just be voted in as Vendinger (otherworld leader) against her will;
Aisling's mate (Drake) is facing a challenge as leader of the green dragons. If he loses, Aisling becomes the mate of the winner, against her will;
Something's fishy with the blue and silver dragons, but to go into detail would spoil the book.
Poor Aisling! No one will give the woman half a second to breath, much less a few days to study up on dragon history, demonology, and guardian training. Aisling is always at a loss and just barely makes it through the mess, but somehow she does. This book was so action-packed, I barely even noticed the steamy romance scenes.

A complete comedy of errors. Aisling bungles her way through one terrible event after another. But really by book three she shouldn't be allowed to use ignorance as an excuse anymore.

Still quite amusing when I could ignore the utter stupidity of some choices made.

Would be up for reading the next. Just have to resign myself that ignorance will always be the excuse. ~sigh~

I am loving these books, but why can't I have this cover:

I am enjoy a good look-and-drool and this cover would have helped me greatly, look at the gorgeous and manly man chest, oh well moving on....the book! Once again, Aisling get's into more crap then you can shake a stick at, problem number one: Jim ate the Imp King; problem number two: Drake is a right bastard who betrayed her trust; Problem number 3: a Prince of Hell is trying to coerce her into helping him; Problem number 4: the red dragons are trying to assasinate her...I could go on, as there are more but I only have so much room!

This book is very similar to the others, only set in London rather the Paris and Budapest. Aisling manages to entangles herself in disaster after disaster barely scrapping through one before another hits; however, despite the repeativeness of this I can't help but still be thoroughly entertained by these books, I cannot stress enough the effect of having a demon possesed Newfoundland making sarcastic comments, no matter what happens or how repeatative it becomes having Jim there will always guarentee that I will enjoy the book! I think that Jim should pop up into all boring books and spice them up a little, I wonder if Katie MacAlister would mind lending him out?

But, aside from my growing Jim obsession, I also have my Aisling obsession to nurture as well. I really like her, I like that she doesn't rely on Drake, her mate and instead solves problems on her own without expecting him to ride in and save the day. Most fated-to-be-mated storylines can often become this way. But I still seem to have a Drake problem, he just isn't doing it for me, Aisling loves him and he does have his moments where he makes me smile but he is just a little...meh-bring-back-Jim!

I am really loving this series at the moment, it is light hearted without being completely shallow, with a lot of humour and crazy situations to keep me glued to the page.

You know how the Harry Potter books stretch into a long series of no one explaining anything important to Harry until the last minute? That’s this book. No one tells Aisling anything important. But for once, I can’t blame it all on her. Sure, she does stupid stuff, but she actually tries to make an effort and understand things. But no one tells her anything relevant and she suffers the consequences. On the one hand, it makes her more likable as a heroine. She's not a blithering idiot. On the other, it means the book feels a whole lot less funny. More like depressing. She no longer brings all this trouble on herself. Rather, the trouble just comes, and no one explains anything!
Further, while I would be lying if I said the jokes about a potentially pregnant Aisling didn’t make me chuckle occasionally, I just don’t find jokes about pregnancy, menstrual cycles, or unplanned parenthood that funny. And this book initially relies a lot on jokes centering on Aisling’s menstrual cycle (or lack thereof). Hard to appreciate humor when the punchline makes me want to literally punch someone.
But despite the lack of funny humor (my favorite quality of the earlier books), the slightly more serious and self-aware tone improves the overall quality of the book. Not that I recommend it. I still say this series is trash, just addicting trash. And now it is more like epic-adventure-trash and not what-on-earth-is-going-on trash.
Less funny. More action. I'd give up if this was the first one in the series but with only one more book to go, I probably will finish.

This book had some humor, it was entertaining, and Drake was just amusing, “I was intending to, but you took the conversation in a direction I had not anticipated,” he answered, glancing down to my stomach.." his mother irritated the hell out of me like I just wanted to punch her every time she opened her mouth, I was surprised Drake didn't because telling her off just did not work, “for Christ’s sake, Mother! I have mated with a mortal woman, not a goat! There is no disgrace in Aisling being human.” the way Drake sometimes explains himself makes me think he always has a hard on for his woman, “Kincsem, where you are concerned, I’m always in the mood to…frolic. Did you get enough sleep?” I liked this book.

Another great installment! Once again Jim had me lol'ing throughout the book. I think this one takes the cake for how much trouble Aisling can get into. I know she's never going to catch a break but jeez she never got out of trouble this one. Drake finally made me not want to kill him at times in this one too. Jim steals the show in this series, he's like the dark brother to Oberon. I absolutely love him.

Light My Fire is book three in the Aisling Grey: Guardian series by Katie MacAlister.  In this story, Aisling and Jim have moved to London to train with Norah.  On her first day, she receives a notice that Norah is to stop any training until an investigation is complete.  Drake turns up on her doorstep with an “invitation” to a mandatory sept meeting, where she’s introduced to the green dragons.  And for the readers, there’s tons and tons of hot, steamy, dragon sex!  This story is fabulous and the series gets better with each page.  I love it!  Bring on the Fire!!!

Book #3 in the Aisling Grey, Guardian novels. Now Aisling is in London about to start her training as a Guardian with her mentor Nora. But things are never easy and her recent past catches up with her - her mate Drake is in town, and war has started between the green and red septs. Also someone is trying to kill Aisling and people keep trying to get her to agree to support them as either Venediger or Prince of Abbaddon. This felt like a snack - not really a full meal, very easy and fast to consume, light on substance. If you were expecting something fulfilling, this will leave you unsatisfied, but if you were expecting something light and fun, this may be the book for you. As usual Aisling Grey manages to get herself into trouble, often because she doesn't know many of the rules of demons, dragons and Guardians. I found myself somewhat frustrated by a) how much trouble she could get into (to quote Aisling herself "these constant "out of the frying pan, into the fire, into a worse fire, into a worse fire than the worse fire before it" situations that had been riddling my life of late were beginning to wear me down".), and b) why doesn't any other character tell her the rules, and how many times do they have to assume she already knows or won't tell her because she didn't ask?! Lastly c) plot inconsistancies (things happening that didn't really get explained or not explained very well, then swept under the carpet - my disbelief is not suspended). That plot device is wearing thin, and I think I would have enjoyed it more if Aisling doesn't spend 100% of the book completely clueless running from one disaster to another. Getting frustrated by that. If you aspect of these novels doesn't bother you, then the book will be enjoyable.

Mon avis en français

My English review

These days, it’s easier for me to read this series, so I started with pleasure Light My Fire, the third volume of Aisling Grey’s adventures.

Our heroine can finally start her training as a Guardian… or so she thought before everything went wrong! Oh yes, because everything is going to be turned upside down here, and I must admit that I was impressed by all the things our heroine has to deal with. Her dog ate the monarch of some strange creatures, they want her to take her place on the council of L’Au-Dela, they want her to take sides in electing the next king of the underworld, and did I mention Drake or the fact that it’s war and it seems everyone wants to kill our Aisling?

It was a very rhythmic novel where a lot of things happen. We finally learn who Rene is, but also what our little demon is exactly. Aisling will have to make choices, many of them quite difficult, but she will always try to do the best she can.

I got carried away by the story and the plot, and I am very curious to read the fourth and last volume now!

Yay, Aisling's back! This time, she's in beautiful London, England. She's been accepted as an apprentice, and is looking forward to beginning her studies towards becoming a Guardian. Only problem? Just about everyone is out for her head.

No, really. This book does feature lots of politics (of the dragon-, Guardian- and demon variety), but each and every instance of it revolves around someone trying to do away with her, literally and figuratively.

It's always fun to follow Aisling and Drake's relationship. Both individuals have room for growth and development, so there's lots of opportunity for interesting and amusing scenes. Their involvement is a blast to follow through times good and bad (and explosive, which tends to be a bit of both!).

Again, MacAlister comes up with a crazy third act. Twas great! She certainly knows how to raise stakes and create oodles of tension.

Y'know, I almost hesitate to call this book "sugary chick-lit," even though it has some of the typical elements. This book had the silly humor, and the wily heroine and cast, but was a fair bit darker and less frivolous than even the previous books in the series. I ono.

Light, fluffy and the narrator obviously had a blast with the audiobook.

Aisling is still a bubble-headed ignorant mess who manages to get herself into trouble and then some more trouble to make things more interesting. Her insistence on doing things her way, when she knows very little about the world she's now a big part of and her habit of ignoring her problems until she's forced to deal with them, are things that make it hard for me to relate to her.

I may not like Aisling all that much but the narrator must have loved interpreting her and the various other characters judging by the audiobook. She sounds excited and enthusiastic and her feeling narration made the story more fun for me than reading it would have been.

The next and last book of this part of the series is Holy Smokes, which, if I decide to read, I'll make sure to get the audiobook version in hopes that the narrator is the same.

“My life used to be boring. A damnation here, a curse there, with an occasional blight or two to break routine. Now I have Aisling...She's better than reality TV, Internet porn sites, and the trashloids all put together.' - Jim”

So right you are Jim. Aisling continues to provide hilarious entertainment as the otherworld hits her from all sides. She faces the Red dragon's murderous plots, the Imp Kingdom (after Jim munched on their monarch) and the prince's of Abaddon as they try to pull her into their dark world.
This series gets better with every book. Aisling, still a loveable airhead, shows off her skills and actually has fewer ditzy moments! Drake (after a negotiation with Aisling) begins to open up to Aisling and share his feelings! And Jim! Oh, well, Jim is still a loveable furry pain in Aisling's arse.
Don't think twice, if you are looking to read this book just crack it open and join Aisling in her hectic life, you will not regret it!

Whew! This book is really a page-turner. A lot of things happened in this book but still, the author managed to maintain its light atmosphere. The plot was laid well (I was never confused when I read it, and A LOT happened), and will make you want to finish the entire series nonstop. Aisling's suspicion about Rene being other than plain human is true (his Daimon or Fate), which is just about time that we know, yes?. The bed scenes are more intense (the ice cubes!). I am so in love with despicable Jim I believe that we'll go along very well (surprisingly, he's kinda more protective and sweeter here). I think people will say that nothing is really special about this story. However, I recommend this series to those who want to take a rest from heavy drama and serious action. I can't wait to read the last book, and I confess that as early as now, I'm missing the gang already (if they could have more adventures). I give it 4.5.

Wow! I don't even know what happened in this book. Just when I thought thingfs could not get any worse for Aisling...they got a whole lot worse.

Now back with Drake...AGAIN and maybe pregnant aisling is up to her neck in people trying to kill her, between the red dragons, the imps and a demon lord Aisling seems to be pretty busy. Not only this but her mate is fighting to keep control of his sept.

Drake makes a decision at the end that had my heart jumping for joy but man are things goign to be meesed up for the couple now. Aisling seems to have taken on some dark power attributes and now controls a whole lot more demons then she would like.

It was nice however to find out that Jim is not so evil after all and Rene fianlly reveals what he is!

I positively love this series and am quite sad that the conclusion is so close.

So much going on in this one, and so many plot twists it was action-packed from go to whoa. We finally got to find out who (or what) Rene is, and Drake said the L-word to Aisling. *sigh* There was a lot of coitus interruptus going on, too, but their relationship has now developed into something more than just physical, so I was still satisfied - even though at times Drake was not.

The bad guys included imps, demon lords, dragons of various colours, and Drake's mother - who was hilarious - and again Jim had a lot of the best lines. I love this series, and can't wait to get stuck into the fourth book, which is sadly the last.

From the books own good description: "Aisling Grey is juggling being a demon lord, a Guardian, and a wyvern's mate, even though she's keeping her distance from said wyvern, Drake, these days. But her presence is still required at a meeting of the green dragons. Since several attempts have been made on her life, Drake is sure to get protective of her. Which might not be a bad thing when war breaks out and all hell breaks loose-literally."

I'm addicted to Aisling Grey. Yet another hit. I can easily escape into Aisling's world and count on Katie Mac to keep me laughing and well entertained.

Thoughts:
• Drake’s a turd. Not just for deceiving her into the mating bond arrangement, but as a generalized assessment.
• Why is Jim an “it”? He seems fairly decidedly a “he.” Plus, considering he’s the star of the series, he deserves a proper pronoun.
• Aisling claims to be in love with Drake, but I’ve seen no evidence of that.
• Aaaand when she just meekly rolled over and forgave him after walking in on him kissing an ex, I gave up. Sorry, Jim.
