My thought exactly! Rebecca, as I was reading and enjoying the book so much, I kept thinking...and they say it gets better? yeah for me. They do get better but it's not like I liked any of them less.

Oh, it gets so much better. I was quiet taken aback by the usage of sex. Unfortunate it took till the end and the next book for me to become emotionally attach to the book. She'll get into her roll as Queen and bc of her half-breed, her humanity earned respects from her people and some. The storyline is definitely one of a kind.

I love Adam Black too. For someone who loved and had to live after his first love refused the immortal drink and in the end, realized what true love is, gave it all up was speechless for me.

message 9968: by Heather in FL (new)

Heather in FL (heather_fl) I finished Lifting the Veil and it was really good. There was actually a lot of Greek mythology in it. I learned about the Lycaon myth, which I'd never heard before. I never knew where the word lycan came from; now I know. It was a sweet, and immediate, love story. And yes, there was sex, but it wasn't too much. Pretty tame by R.G. Alexander standards, lol.

This was published in 2008, but she left the ending open as if she would write more. I hope she does, what was revealed at the end, the next part of the prophecy, is intriguing.

message 9969: by Heather in FL (new)

Heather in FL (heather_fl) Oh boy, oh boy, there IS a next one. :-) Piercing the Veil I have to get it now. Sometimes it's hard to see there's a next one if the first one doesn't indicate it's #1 in a series, and the second one's name doesn't either. I just saw it on her site, found it here, and the description indicates it's a sequel.

But goody for me. :-)

I LOVE the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. The fact that it's based on a bad ass girl that can handle her own makes it so much better already. I can't wait until the last installment of the series.

sure! (and yes, sexy Adam Black...sigh...)

I checked your 'read' books and didn't see any of these authors, who I hope you'd like:

Monica McCarty-she has 2 trilogies, the MacLeods of Skye, and the Campbells. All take place in the early 1600s. Her latest series is about to release book 3, and it's called the Highland Guard series-it begins right after the movie Braveheart ends, so it's middle ages. All of her books are wonderful.

Julie Garwood- Ransom I don't think anyone didn't like that one.

If you like a bit of the paranormal-Donna Grant has a series called the Dark Sword series about Immortal gods and Highlanders and druids...fun series.

Dangerous Highlander (Dark Sword, #1) by Donna Grant Forbidden Highlander (Dark Sword, #2) by Donna Grant Wicked Highlander (Dark Sword, #3) by Donna Grant

If you like time travel historicals try Veronica Wolff's series, she has a lot but this was the only title I remember :)
Warrior of the Highlands (Highlands, #3) by Veronica Wolff

Laurie-- Thank you so much! My to-be-read pile is much too small this week so I will check them out. And I read Ransom and loved it--- that was my favorite from that series and I had to keep going back and re-reading parts!

Laura (highlandhussy) | 194 comments Good to know :)
Hannah Howell and Lynsay Sands write a lot of Highlander romances, but they are all about 3 star books for me.
Why would I recommend them, you ask?
Weelll, they are all the kind of books that have a very clear plot, a sweet love story, and the kind that maybe you just need a nice romance with a braw Highlander, that you don't have to think too hard about.

I have, but I swear I searched for her before and didn't find anything. Just went back (at your suggestion) and searched for the book instead of the author. Turns out the author is listed without periods on their site. Doh! Thanks for the reminder!

Don't u find though that the series has A LOT of similarities to Laurell K Hamilton's "Meredith Gentry" series? Just finished the 1st Mona book and it was enjoyable but I was a bit annoyed about it.... Like its great that she acknowledged LKH at the start as a part of her inspiration but i just feel she seems to have built her series on an already formulated idea...
