Jess | 173 comments I just started Veil of Midnight by Lara Adrian

message 902: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) Just finished Outlander and am starting Dark Prince. I loved Oulander. I got a little bored towards the end but it finished strong and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Finished Shayla Black's Wicked Ties yesterday. Boy, that book is HOT!

Now reading Jackie Kessler's Hotter than Hell, third book in her Hell on Earth trilogy. So far, it is very intriguing.

message 904: by Sue (new)

Sue | 43 comments I am currently reading "Betrayed" by PC & Kristin Cast the 2nd book in the series and I don't think I will read the rest. They are a bit young for me. I know that Twilight is for Highschoolers too but they don't seem as young. Has anyone else read the PC Cast series?

LilMisGrayBrisk | 502 comments Sue wrote: "Has anyone else read the PC Cast series"

Yes and I really like this series, LOL. I wasn't too happy with the last one, but I still plan on reading the next one. Yes, they can act young, but I love the plot.

message 906: by LilMisGrayBrisk (new)

LilMisGrayBrisk | 502 comments I'm currently reading [Book: Sword of Darkness|84183] by Kinley MacGregor.

message 907: by Sue (new)

Sue | 43 comments Well Mitabird I guess I have to keep going then. The story is good but I need to try to find the rest used, I buy way too many books!

I finally finished The Chosen Sin, and last night/this morning I plowed through Carrie Vaughn's Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand. So... now I'm reading a literary criticism text on power in adolescent literature. It's actually more interesting than it sounds, heh.

I've also found a surefire way to ruin Twilight; we're reading it for class. Like I've said before, I enjoyed it when I read it, but since then I've been picking it apart. Full deconstruction in the context of a grad-level course? Uh-oh...

I just finished up the umpteenth re-read of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for my other class. Gotta start Chamber of Secrets soon, and Robert Cormier's Feed.

Man, grad school really cuts into my reading time. ;)

Finished Hotter than Hell by Jackie Kessler this morning and I was surprised on how it turned out. It still has the same saucy writing, but it actually turned out into a bittersweet story. Still Daunuan will be my favorite incubus in print..definitely a bad demon with a cuddly side..LOL..

Debated which book to start next to continue with my RRR Group Jan challenge, and decided to read my "flower" book, something I pick up in the YA aisle called Once Upon A Marigold by Jean Ferris.

message 910: by Angie (new)

Angie (angiebowen) I'm in the middle of Broken (Women of the Otherworld Book 6) by Kelley Armstrong. While I've loved every book in the series so far, I'm really happy to finally be back to Elena.

message 911: by Debbie (new)

Debbie | 11 comments Mitabird,
I read Marked but am waiting for the other ones to come in at the library. In the mean time I've been reading Scott Westerfeld's Uglies series.

message 912: by Sue (new)

Sue | 43 comments Finished Undead and Unworthy and can't figure out why people dissed it so much, it was a typical Betsy book, fun and a fast read. Now I am reading "50 ways to hex your lover" by Linda Wisdom

message 913: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephanie_julian) | 108 comments Finished "Living With the Dead." Not a romance in the typical sense but I really like Armstrong's characters and the world-building. Miss Clay and Elena though.

Stephanie (stephanie_julian) | 108 comments Mitabird wrote: "I'm currently reading [Book: Sword of Darkness|84183] by Kinley MacGregor."

I loved these books. I really hope she does more.

message 915: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jen421) | 201 comments I still like Twilight. It's not the best book I've ever read, but it's enjoyable. It generates such an emotional response for me, and I love that.

message 916: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Almost halfway through For A Few Demons More by Kim Harrison. So far I like it a lot better than the four previous books. This one might actually earn 4 stars, we'll have to see.
And I just started Wicked Deeds on a Winters Night by Kresley Cole. Good so far.
I finally gave in and decided to listen to an audiobook at work. It never occured to me when I requested it from the library that it would be on cassette! I had to borrow a giant tape player from my sister and haul it in. But I'm liking it - in fact, it may be a little too distracting:). It's A Caress of Twilight by Laurell K Hamilton.

message 917: by Angie (new)

Angie (angiebowen) Debbie - I really enjoyed the Uglies series more than I thought I would. I think being a techno-geek helped but he's also built a very interesting world.

Jennifer - I'm the same way with Twilight, it really evokes some strong emotions for me. I tend to read the series when I want a feel good read and usually end up skipping the entire middle of New Moon since it depresses me to no end. lol

message 918: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments LOL, yes, New Moon was rather depressing. It speaks to the talent of an author when she can make us feel so sympathetic to her characters.

message 919: by Angie (new)

Angie (angiebowen) new_user wrote: "It speaks to the talent of an author when she can make us feel so sympathetic to her characters."

Definitely! A lot of people interpret this to mean that I don't like the majority of New Moon which isn't true at all. I just have to be in a really good place emotionally to soldier through it lol.

message 920: by Debbie (new)

Debbie | 11 comments Angie-the concept of Uglies was really interesting. I heard Westerfeld's book Peeps is also supposed to be quite good.

I loved the Twilight series but skip over a lot of New Moon because I can't stand Jacob :)

message 921: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments I think Jacob's intro as a love interest is what made me like the series so much, LOL.

message 922: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 137 comments Sorry I haven't posted in a while. Computer problems and a death in the family has been keeping me occupied. :(

Recently finished The Death Dealer by Heather Graham. Currently reading: Murder Game by Christine Feehan.

That was pretty much my feelings about Marked which is why I didn't finish. Twilight didn't read as young as Marked does. Oh well. We gave it a shot!

message 924: by Ranata (new)

Ranata Clark (thatchicknata) new_user wrote: "I think Jacob's intro as a love interest is what made me like the series so much, LOL."

His intro as a love interest annoyed me, honestly. She was totally rebounding! I kept peeking to see when Edward reappeared.

message 925: by Ranata (new)

Ranata Clark (thatchicknata) Reading Touch of Madness after just finishing At Grave's End. Not that far in yet so I can't say what I like or not but the first book was decent. I think I love red-headed characters best!

message 926: by Angie (new)

Angie (angiebowen) Debbie wrote: "Angie-the concept of Uglies was really interesting. I heard Westerfeld's book Peeps is also supposed to be quite good.

I've been wanting to read Peeps for a while I just don't have it yet. I sounds very interesting though.

I've read all of the series so far. The writing is really bad but I really like the story and have to know how it turns out. I really wish it had a better writer.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic I just finished THE HUNTED by L A Banks and IF ANGELS BURN by Lynn Viehl. I must say for a first time reader of a dominantly vamp-themed romance I finally found one I enjoyed.

Well, I enjoyed both but Viehl book was vampire centered while Banks book had the action of hunting vampires. I am glad I took up the rec. for Lynn Viehl b/c I really like PNR but shifters were about the only themes I often appealing.

THE HUNTED uplifts the series and progresses it further and matures Damali (the huntress). I am glad to have the next 2-3 books handy. I started THE BITTEN but will have to put it on hold b/c of reading challenges. I just could not wait! LOL! I got so caught up in the world LA Banks has created between Carlos, the huntress team, the vampire council, and the in between. Love it!

Also reading: Moon's Web by CT Adams and Cathy Clamp

Unapologetic_Bookaholic I have not been here in several weeks because I was not reading PNR (the horror!). I had to take a break. Read some YA and m/m romances. But with these challenges alot of my TBR shelf is predominantly PNR. So i'm back =)

message 929: by Anita (new)

Anita (anitaw) | 166 comments Ranata - regarding House of Night (Marked/Betrayed, etc.) I agree, it's written VERY young. Try Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead (same auther as Succubus Blues). It's much more mature, yet still a YA series. (Better written, too!)

message 930: by Debbie (new)

Debbie | 11 comments I loved Vampire Academy! I read Marked and it was interesting but didn't grab me as much as Twilight and Vampire Academy. I haven't picked up Betrayed yet.

Blue Bloods is along similar lines and isn't too bad. I also just finished up Demon in My View by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes and that is definitely written just for YA.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments This is interesting to me because I have both Marked and Vampire Academy on my February challenge list. I loved the Twilight series though, so I'm optimistic I'll like these two as well.

message 932: by new_user (last edited Jan 30, 2009 05:04PM) (new)

new_user | 1389 comments I bet if someone made an Atwater-Rhodes book for adults that would be something. The premise of her books sounds interesting.

message 933: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I liked all her books, but they went downhill as the series went on. They are fast reads because they are YA but not too "young".

message 934: by Jess (new)

Jess | 173 comments I just finished Be Still my Vampire heart by Kerrelyn SPakrs and now I'm goigng backwards and reading the first book in the series.. How to marry a millionare vampire

message 935: by Debbie (new)

Debbie | 11 comments I would love if Demon in My View by Atwater-Rhodes could be fleshed out and made more for adults. I really liked the concept of it.

I have it in my TBR pile right now! Thanks!

message 937: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Romo (barbararomo) | 3 comments Hi, new person here - haven't chimed in before, but I've just started reading Odd Hours by Dean Koontz. He's filed in Horror rather than Romance, but he always has a strong romantic element in his books. I love his characters, who despite having sometimes scary paranormal abilities, are really just ordinary people trying to get by. And I love the way Koontz writes. Anybody else ready him?

message 938: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Welcome, Barbara!

I read a Dean Koontz novel a few years back, and just remember it being really weird... there were aliens and a boy with a shot gun, and a girl whose mom would cut her arms (both the girl and herself)... I don't remember much about it other than that although I read the whole thing, I was kind of creeped out by it and I never quite figured out what was going on, I don't think. But I wonder if my reading tastes have changed enough to try him again.

message 939: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I love Dean Koontz. I've got to be in the right mood though when I pick one of his up. You just never know where he might go with his stories. I like his writing style too. I'm always amazed at how different the writing style in his Odd Thomas books are compared to all of his other books. I'm never disappointed when I read anything by him.

message 940: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 79 comments I'm reading the 4th book (Lover Revealed) of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward. After finishing the Twilight Series I wanted to find another series for older readers. I definitely recommend the BDB series!

message 941: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Romo (barbararomo) | 3 comments Hi, Melissa, and Nichole, thanks for the welcome. I know exactly the Koontz book you're talking about-it ended as if he wanted the reader to draw their own conclusions. Of course, I loved it BECAUSE of the aliens, since that's what I write. But Odd Thomas is my favorite Koontz character.
Right before the Koontz I read Shana Abe's Smoke Thief, with dragons as characters. Question, for anybody-who's read a non-vampire & non-werewolf paranormal lately they thought was great? I like them, but sometimes want something different.

Jill | 24 comments The Darkest Kiss by Gena Showalter.

message 943: by Jessa (new)

Jessa Moore (jessa_moore) | 6 comments I just got Bone Crossed yesterday, the new one from Patricia Briggs. I love this series! And it's also really cool to read about vampires, weres and shifters running around in my backyard! (I live in Tri-Cities where these books are based). A girl in a book store down in Oregon heard that I was moving back to the Tri-Cities and told me about these books. She thought it was a made up place. Lol. *random thought*

message 944: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Barbara, I have my shelves categorized with types of characters, so you can find character types other than vampire and werewolf, e.g. "werepanther," "phantom," etc. Feel free to take a look, I'm lazy right now.

Off the top of my head, I would recommend Nalini Singh. She has a lot of fans. She writes PNR about leopard shifters and the Psy (a race of people with mental powers who have banished their emotions). There's also an interesting, intelligent political plot going on.

message 945: by Arlene (last edited Feb 04, 2009 08:41PM) (new)

Arlene | 6 comments I'm reading At Grave's End by Jeaniene Frost..I almost finished it in just one sitting! I was up till 3am this morning..that should be more than enough to express how I love Bones and Cat!

message 946: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Arlene,
I love that series, and I love Bones and Cat! But I was a little disappointed by that book. Overall it just wasn't as satisfying as the first two. What do you think?

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments While Jeaniene can do no wrong in my book, I did prefer One Foot in the Grave.

message 948: by Arlene (new)

Arlene | 6 comments Nichole wrote: "Arlene,

Nicole,
Well, I must admit, I liked the 2 previous books better. But, I think I'm biased when it comes to Bones and Cat, even if the 3rd book seems to jump from one time frame to the next that sometimes I got confused (or maybe it was because I was already nodding off but still kept on reading) haha.

message 949: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Romo (barbararomo) | 3 comments Thanks everyone for the recommends. Now, off to the bookstore...

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) I loved AGE end I just wished there was more than one sex scene I mean how could she give us just one when OFITG had that blow your mind bedroom scene. Man that Bones is a freak, Yummy! :)
