Cool! Thanks for the heads up, your the first person that I've come across that has said anything about that book.

I gave Bree Tanner 5 stars - I liked it that much.
I felt her simple writing style was better suited to a novella and unlike most modern short stories writers she didn't feel the need to be vague or obscure.

Drea | 9 comments I'm reading the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost, I'm in the middle of At Grave's End. I absolutely love this series and am sad that there's only 1 more book left after this one. But I will probably start her other series The Night Huntress World series. I am glad there's only a little bit of romance with a lot of action/horror/plot. Even though it's labeled a romance. I tried to start the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series, but I couldn't really get into the first book, it didn't grab me. Anyone have any comments on that? Does it just take a little while to get into? I would like to love that series since there are so many books in it.

Can I ask , what besides the not making sense bit, makes her books so unlikeable? I've got one or two lying around and it'd help to know what I'd be getting into.

message 8105: by Jen ~The dreamer~ (new)

Jen ~The dreamer~ | 649 comments Drea, I LOVE the Night Huntress books! I just started First Drop of Crimson and like it so far. I love the action packed, blood and gore, and story lines.
I haven't read the Anita Blake books, but I have like 9 of them on my book shelf. I hear the first book is a bit rough, the next 5-6 are good, then they start going down hill again....
I'll be reading them sooner or later, but I have so many on my shelf I want to read before Anita.

message 8106: by Drea (new)

Drea | 9 comments Jen - Thanks for the bit of info on the Anita Blake books, I might soldier through the first book to get to the better ones. Although, since I started coming onto this board I'm finding a lot more series' that I want to read, so I may pick something else up after I'm done with Jeaniene Frost.

Bree Tanner was a good side story to Twilight. Interesting to get another perspective.
I really liked The Host. You really fall in love with the characters.
I started the House of Night series and couldnt finish. I didnt like the writing style.

message 8108: by Drea (new)

Drea | 9 comments The Host was such a great book, when I first bought it I couldn't get through the first couple of chapters. Luckily my sister read it when I decided it was too boring to continue to read and she told me to just get through the first 6 chapters and that it was a great book. So I am very happy I had someone to tell me to keep going because I ended up loving the book soo much. You really do fall in love with the characters.

I will be reading Bree Tanner soon too, I just borrowed that one from my sister. I could always read it simultaneously as At Grave's End since it's so short.

It felt choppy, maybe she was trying to do too much to fast before her characters & plots developed. ie. Lisa was in totally in love & having sex b4 any really dialog happened. That being said, the breakup scene was a little more convincing and has redeemed enough for me to willing to finish the book. Too much violent sex too but maybe more understand of the Monere species. I must say the story line does move fast.

message 8111: by Amy (new)

Amy (amescat) | 279 comments Sobia - I read Sunny's Lucinda, Darkly. It was the first Sunny book I had read and it didn't keep my interest. It was lacking in character and story line. I finished the book because I cannot stop in the middle of a book/story no matter how bad it is. I felt no connection with the characters and nothing about the story held my interest.

Drea, i'm an avid fan of Laurell k. Hamilton's Anita Blake Series. i did enjoy Guilty Pleasures the first time through. about the first 5 books insinuate sensuality, but as u get deeper in the series, about book 10 it's pretty sensual. i kinda understand why because of the nature of the story, but if ur more into action u may not like it so far into the series. it's more action packed in the first 7 books. the characters are pretty interesting, and i love them all, but i may be a bit biased =)
i hope this helps

started The Harlequin (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #15) by Laurell K. Hamilton last night. it's starting off pretty good. can't wait to read more after work =)
will start Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost also probly tonight or tomorrow.

What am I going to read next? - I have no idea - just going to reread as I can't keep ordering books - no idea where to store them all!

It took me forever to get through The Vampire Lestat too. All the books that she wrote from Lestat's point of view were incredibly boring. If memory serves, a chunk of the Vampire Lestat is a rehashing of Interview with the Vampire, just from Lestat's POV.

message 8125: by Denise Nanna (new)

Denise Nanna | 1321 comments Just finished Dark Lover
I need more of a good story and not the eroticism, so I think I will not read any more of that series.
Starting Halfway to the Grave and hope to like this better.

I loved the City of Bones series and the VA series. Any suggestions on what else I might like out there?

Crazy4more (lan-ni) | 3071 comments Amy wrote: "Crazy4more - Let me know what you think of her other books. Maybe I started with the wrong one."

Hi Amy, I started reading Mona Lisa Awakening and found it hard to connect with the characters. Then there were a couple violent sex scenes that made it difficult to finish...but by the middle, enough emotions, actions and plots thickened to keep me finish and will give the series another try. Sadly, I more attached to the High Prince of Hell, Halcyon. It is quite erotic,IMO, not as endearing as Bones, Acheron, Rhev, the Highlanders, etc...

Denise, I love all the series you've listed and they all are quite different. Among the 3 listed, BDB is most erotic but so good...IMO. I love the Night Huntress series. It's not as erotic as BDB if that's what you're concern with but there are enough hotness, wink wink. I love City of Bones too. If this is more of your taste, have you tried the Hunger Games series?

Thank you both for your two (four?) cents! I've had a few of her books on my TBR pile for awhile, but I think I'll be skipping her for now...There are plenty of other books I want to read more, For instance
Midnight's Master (Midnight, #3) by Cynthia Eden which is what I'm in the middle of now :)
