The comics are more expensive, but a joy to read with the 'guided view' concept they have.
For Marvel fans, things are slightly better - with the Marvel Unlimited app, where for 10 dollars a month, you can read unlimited comics.
There are a few caveats, but still it is a great deal.

I haven't tried the comixology app yet, it sounds good though. I'll check it out, thanks for the tip!

The downside is that it's running me bankrupt! :P

If that is so then guess i shouldnt buy kindle paperwhite. Probably Kindle fire HD or Google Nexus 7 would be a better option as they are multifuctional too

However, if you primarily read books and not comics, the PaperWhite is awesome, because of its insane battery life. 30 days without charging? Awesome, especially if you travel quite a bit. :)
I read books on my Kindle, and comics on the 9.7" iPad, but am considering getting the iPad mini, because it is so much lighter and easier to handle.
I never get 30 days battery life. its just 10 days for me. I asked for clarification and they said its if you read 30 min per day.
who reads just for a measly 30 min ??? :O

Of course, turning data off and switching off the page refresh setting on every page turn helps as well.
With the light on, all calculations get majorly skewed. But still, I sometimes wish my iPad could give me even half the battery time my kindle does. :P

Thanks, Sumit and Parvati. I will try it in airplane mode and tick off page refresh (what is page refresh? )

As I understand it, page refresh clears the e-ink from the background with each flash.
If a full page refresh isn't done, you'll get 'ghost' text in the background. It may be a bit annoying for reading if there's other text under the page you're currently on.
I think. :D

Oh, lucky you, if you don't see any ghost letters. Although, I guess they appear over a phase of time. Still, the trick is to turn on page refresh for a few minutes, turn a few pages, and then turn it off again.
(It's like cleaning a slate, almost. :P )
And yes, I also hope your battery's better.

any reviews regarding this ereader if any1 owes one??

I have the older Kindle Touch 3G (accompanied by a detachable Energizer light)- and I LOVE it! I've bought books sitting at airports for hours, waiting for connecting flights, on long train/bus journeys, and even in the middle of a desert. :)
Also, one gets to smirk at people using tablets, because one's own battery is pretty much unlimited. :D
P.S. I just wish airlines would understand that Kindles don't give out any interfering waves, and so don't need to be turned off during takeoff/landing. (Amazon has got US authorities to fix this bit, and not insist on turning Kindles off, but I'm presuming it'll take us a few years to get to that point.)

And as Kevan said, do get a cover if you can. They're useful.

I usually keep on standby and 2-3 hours should give you a battery life of 10-14 days
Congratulations, by the way
Congratulations, by the way

I leave it on standby when I'm not reading.

pdf can be converted to epub (for nook) and mobi (for kindle) using Calibre software which can be downloaded free
sometimes PDF font cannot be enlarged properly by ereader
I remember reading malayalam, either on nook or infibeam pi

Last I checked Wink was still available...

Good analysis, Priyanka. Although I'd rate all readers that are NOT the Kindle as very, very low.
The article incorrectly mentions that B&N has a larger collection than Amazon. In addition, Barnes and Noble is in severe financial difficulties and their Nook division is shrinking every year.
Therefore, I don't ever suggest the Nook - it might not even be warranty supported soon enough.

But, much better idea to get a Kindle for sure. If it develops any issues, Amazon typically replaces it with no hassles whatsoever.

Does your Nook have backlighting Smitha?

No worries. Thanks, Priyanka :)
Let me know if you need any more info. I've kinda done a bit of research on these things here and there.
Also, to substantiate my claims about Nook's financials, http://www.businesswire.com/news/home...

Totally agree, Qube! No frills device, with insanely good battery life, no excess weight - simple, yet effective at what it does.

Harsha, if your primary purpose is reading - nothing like an ereader at all. The new Kindle Paperwhite is quite amazing.
However, if you want a device which allows you to read comics, check FB/gmail/news/music etc. - then, I'd say go for your brother's suggestion. :)

Saleem, no - 'specifications' are only for cards that go into cameras.
Harsh a, no chance for repair?
otherwise buy a kindle which costs only around 5000 odd (not the paper white which is costlier).
I personally feel tablets don't fulfil the purpose for a serious reader. too tedious for the eyes

You know what - there's a chance that it's just some wire that's gone loose - if you can't see any signs of serious damage on the outside.
So, maybe taking it to a local electronics repair centre might help, even if they charge 100-200 bucks and are unable to repair it.
Best case scenario - you save on the cost of a new device and buy your new phone
Worst case scenario - you lose some time and 200 bucks
So, I'd say the potential benefits are much higher than the potential loss. :)

May not be due to the cover.
you may ask anyone who repairs laptops and mobiles to have a look. A stuck button should be repairable

Technically, the Paperwhite does support comics. Some of them at least, like Sumit said.
