The Woman in White#107
The Screwtape Letters
#108 - This one was read by my bookgroup. I can't say it was a favorite book, but it was thought provoking.
#109 - Another Lucas Davenport mystery - plenty of twists and turns, tortured souls, stupid criminals and psychopaths.
#111 -Justice DeniedAudio Book - interesting plot and excellent reader. Sometimes it is really nice to have someone read to you - it makes all those car trips more enjoyable and at times I find myself in the garage hating to come in because I want to hear the rest of the story.
#112 Knife Music is the music surgeons play while operating. This is a real 'who done it?" that will keep you guessing.
#113 I had read this before but couldn't quite remember all the particulars. A woman in a coma but she can hear and the question is which of her friends and relatives wants to do her in?
#115 Audio Book
Studly Stone at his best. Spies, antiques, fine wines, country tweeds, the "upper crust", dinners with Dino at Elaine's - a wedding and an excellent reader. Although one of the CD's got stuck in my car's multi-slot CD player and I have to buy a new one for the library. Way cheaper than getting the CD player fixed - and besides I have five CD slots that work!
The Moonstone#116 Written in 1868, this is considered by many to be the first mystery novel. It is a tale of the Moonstone Diamond and the mystery is who stole the diamond. Told though the eyes of several observers from their unique perspectives, the lengthy tale (580-some pages) unfolds and the characters with all their quirks and imperfections become known and dear to us.
A thoroughly enjoyable read - a free download from Amazon for my Kindle.
#118 = Not even fully recovered from his last adventure, Reacher immerses himself in murder and mayhem and one more time gets the bad guys. Only one or two references to telling time in his head and nothing about throwing away or buying new clothes. He is more treacherous in this novel, and while I won't say he is going really rogue, and his motives are good, the story is littered with dead bodies
#122
A chilling story told from a mother's perspective. Can a mother really not love her child and can this turn him a into teenage mass murderer? Gripping
I'm thankful I read this on my Kindle because there were several words I had to look up. A book always gets bonus points from me if the vocabulary outstrips mine and I become acquainted with new words and meanings.
#123 As always, Turow keeps you guessing. Just when you think you know where the tale is going, he shifts gears and it wasn't until the very end that I finally figured out how it would end.
#126 A wonderful reread (and free download for my Kindle) of an old classic. It has been decades since I read this originally.
#127 A tale about a family faced with significant challenges, and how they were able to overcome them. And as a bonus several interesting recipes. One of the characters was a vegan chef!
#128MANSIONS OF THE DEAD
An interesting new protagonist - Sweeney St. George. This is the second in the series and now I am going to go backwards and read O'Artful Dead.
#129 I couldn't find O'Artful Dead, but found this one which is next in the series with Sweeney & Quinn.
#130 Audio book with a fantastic reader who captured the essence of the spoken word by all the Irish characters. A few times I found myself sitting in the car - all teary. Listening to this was a real treat. I am now going to read An Irish Country Christmas by the same author. I am wondering if I will like reading the story as much as I enjoyed being told the tale. So.....
#133
A tale of a blended family trying to put their lives back together after Emily accuses her step-brother Bruce of rape.
#135The Lost Neighborhood Collection, edited by Joan V. Cusimano Lindquist
This is a collection of essays written by Italian-American individuals who were displaced in the 1970's as a result of an urban renew project in Jamestown, New York. My grandparents lived in this neighborhood and I know many of the contributors to the book. And as a bonus a great picture of my grandparents house and a picture of my Mom attending a lost neighborhood reunion in 2003.
Poison by Sara Poole#138
An excellent historical novel set in 1492 and featuring the Borgia's. It is filled with intrigue, corruption, and murder. And Francesca, the official poisoner, is a compelling and brave character.
#139
A story of love - conventional and alternative, family, food and cooking where characters go from east to west, so there is big sky, 9/11, animal rescue, TBI and a happy ending.
Alex Cross's Trial#141 A very fast read - Eudora, Mississippi 1906 - bigotry, lynching, Teddy Roosevelt and our here Ben.
Three Junes#142
This is the third book I have read by Julia Glass, but the first one she wrote. Some of the characters I met in The Whole World Over at a later stage in their lives. She definitely nails, the cooking, love of books and literature, the gay scene, sibling rivalry, love and lonliness.
The House on Mango Street#144!!!!! Yipee. I did it.
