Koosh | 90 comments I'm going to love May~ <3

Oh, does anyone read Olivia Parker's books too? She also another fav author. She's only got 2 books out so far but they're both amazing!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments I loved To Wed a Wicked Earl by Olivia Parker, so far my only read by her. It was cute and refreshing. I have added her to my list of authors to read.

message 254: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Koosh, I love dark romance, probably why Anna Campbell has me enthralled.

message 255: by Koosh (new)

Koosh | 90 comments Oh, you should read the first book, The Bride Hunt Ball! TRUST me. Lol.

Yes, dark romance. They're good for keeping you on the edge. Have you read Stealing Midnight by Tracy MacNish? A little gothic but I love it anyway~
Talking about dark romances, any book you'd recommend me?

message 256: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments I do have both of those in the pile, Koosh.

As far as dark romance, definitely Anne Stuart. She's the queen of dark romance. Maybe the MacCarrick series by Kresley Cole:

If You Dare (MacCarrick Brothers, #1) by Kresley Cole If You Deceive (MacCarrick Brothers, #3) by Kresley Cole If You Desire (MacCarrick Brothers, #2) by Kresley Cole . They aren't as dark as Campbell and Stuart, but the heroes are fairly tortured.

message 257: by Koosh (new)

Koosh | 90 comments ^Thanks. Putting them into my list~!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments You're welcome, Koosh.

message 259: by Koosh (new)

Koosh | 90 comments ^ ;P

Oh btw, which Anne Stuart book/series should be the best to start with??

message 260: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (last edited Apr 29, 2010 08:44AM) (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Historicals:

The Devil's Waltz by Anne Stuart Lord of Danger by Anne Stuart Hidden Honor by Anne Stuart To Love a Dark Lord by Anne Stuart A Rose at Midnight (An Avon Romantic Treasure) by Anne Stuart Shadow Dance (An Avon Romantic Treasure) by Anne Stuart

This is a good list to start with. If you don't like any of these, you probably won't like her. I know there are mixed feelings about To Love a Dark Lord. I loved it, but I have a couple of friends on GRs who hated it. These are all standalone.

She has a great contemporary romantic suspense with hard, cold, assassin heroes that some love, some are afraid of:

Black Ice (Ice, #1) by Anne Stuart Cold As Ice (Ice, #2) by Anne Stuart Ice Blue (Ice, #3) by Anne Stuart Ice Storm (Ice, #4) by Anne Stuart Fire And Ice (Ice, #5) by Anne Stuart

message 265: by Melanie (last edited Apr 29, 2010 02:44PM) (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 638 comments Liz Carlyle
Celeste Bradley (does anyone else like her? I haven't seen any feedback on her!)
Suzanne Enoch
Eloisa James
Samantha James
Lynsay Sands
Elizabeth Hoyt
Anne Gracie
Sabrina Jeffries
Sally MacKenzie

And Mariel- I also try to read at least a second book by the author if the first is bad.. But the other way round is harder for me..

I read Firestorm by Brenda Joyce, which I liked, and then the story about Derek and Miranda, that I hated... I also should to try to read another, lol

message 266: by Koosh (last edited Apr 29, 2010 08:57PM) (new)

Koosh | 90 comments ^I've tried An Impossible Attraction and Promise of the Rose (I think the title was) by Brenda Joyce coz I heard about her de Warenne dynasty that's apparently good. They were entertaining but I feel wasn't as captivating as LK, JQ etc books. More than the female lead, I find that a big factor that influences my like or dislike of a book is the depth of the male lead provided by the author in her writing. Brenda Joyce does have good plot lines and you're always wanting to know where the story goes but the male leads I find aren't as redeeming if you compare to veteran authors. I finish the books and go, "That's it? He gets forgiven just like that?" His offences seem so unjust to the point that it wouldn't be proportionate to just let him off that easy without really explaining how much he really suffered internally. Am I making any sense? Lol.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Melanie, I am a fan of Celeste Bradley. I'm about five books behind on her, though.

I thought of another dark-ish author: Connie Brockway. Not all of her books are dark, though.

Here are my top recommends for her:

All Through the Night by Connie Brockway My Dearest Enemy by Connie Brockway The Bridal Season (Bridal Stories, #1) by Connie Brockway Bridal Favors (Bridal Stories, #2) by Connie Brockway A Dangerous Man by Connie Brockway

All Through the Night is very dark! I loved it!!!

message 268: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (last edited Apr 30, 2010 06:41AM) (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments I guess I would say Connie is more literary-ish in her writing, moreso than dark. Here are some other literary-type romance writers I enjoy and ones I recommend/have read:

Laura Kinsale
Seize the Fire by Laura Kinsale
The Shadow and the Star
The Prince of Midnight

Judith Ivory
The Proposition by Judith Ivory Untie My Heart by Judith Ivory Black Silk by Judith Ivory Beast by Judith Ivory

I think Melody Thomas is very good. I love her books as Laura Renken

Heart of the Condor by Laura Renken Wicked Lies (Seduction Romance (Paperback)) by Laura Renken Night Shadow by Laura Renken My Lord Pirate (Seduction Romance) by Laura Renken
and so far her Avon books are very good, as well
A Match Made in Scandal by Melody Thomas Must Have Been The Moonlight by Melody Thomas Angel In My Bed by Melody Thomas In My Heart by Melody Thomas

Kathleen O'Reilly has only written one historical, but it's a sure keeper for me
Touched by Fire (Seduction Romance) by Kathleen O'Reilly

Kathryn Smith is fantastic, and writes steamy, romantic, lush books like LK
Be Mine Tonight (Brotherhood of Blood, #1) by Kathryn Smith For the First Time by Kathryn Smith
Still in My Heart
A Seductive Offer
In the Night
In Your Arms Again
Into Temptation
Elusive Passion (Ryland Brothers, Book 1) by Kathryn Smith

Lady England | 8 comments I'm new to this discussion group and I just finished all of my April Erotica books. Left me a little steamy!
I haven't read any Lisa Kleypas books yet. She has written so many.
Where should I start???

message 270: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Hmm. Great question, Lady. I'd tend to steer you towards the Wallflowers series, starting with the prequel:

Again The Magic by Lisa Kleypas Secrets of a Summer Night (Wallflowers, #1) by Lisa Kleypas It Happened One Autumn (Wallflowers, #2) by Lisa Kleypas Devil in Winter (Wallflowers, #3) by Lisa Kleypas Scandal in Spring (Wallflowers, #4) by Lisa Kleypas A Wallflower Christmas (Wallflowers, #5) by Lisa Kleypas

Lady England | 8 comments Awesome recommendation. I'll start there this weekend! Thank You!

message 272: by Christine (new)

Christine (cdunbar) | 424 comments I second the Wallflower series. My favorites in that series are Secrets of a Summer Night and Scandal in Spring.

I really liked the Bride Hunt Ball as well.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 630 comments I would recommend Suddenly You as it is my favourite of all her books. Or Dreaming of You that is also a really good one. But the Wallflower series is also good and then you can follow it on with the Hathaway series which features some of the characters from the Wallflower books.

The Wallflower ones first caught my attention as I like it when the heroine isn't the obviously beautiful one but she gets the guy anyway. Does anyone know of any other books like that they could recommend?

message 276: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 392 comments Suzanne, Where did you pre-order Ten Things I Love About You from? I didn't think the book was coming out until the 25th of May?

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 630 comments Amazon UK, it has already been shipped to me apparently I should receive it on 7 May. When I preorder things from there I always seem to get them a week or so early. Which is why I pretty much preorder all the books I want as soon as they appear on Amazon.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 630 comments Maybe the release date changed I never normally get things a month early!!

message 279: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 392 comments Well if you get Married by Morning before it's official release date I am going to have to seriously think about moving to a different country. LOL

Here are a few with plain heroines that I thought were particularly good:
The Bride Thief by Jacquie D'Alessandro
Beyond Seduction by Emma Holly
Gallant Waif by Anne Gracie
The Leopard Prince by Elizabeth Hoyt
The Shadow and the Star by Laura Kinsale

message 281: by Kerry (new)

Kerry | 8 comments Thanks you guys for the author recommendations. I will have to try some of these. I have only read 3 Kleypas books and absolutely loved them (Bow Street Runners series). Can't wait to read more and I'll probably be hooked just like the rest of you :)!

I have always enjoyed historical romance novels, but I've only recently started enjoying the more contemporary romance genre. It took until I discovered romantic suspense :)! I have always enjoyed mysteries the most - so this genre is a good mix for me :)!

I just finished my first Christina Dodd book. It had a great mystery and some hot steamy romance. It is contemporary, not historical, but if you're in the mood you might give it a try. A friend gave me Almost Like Being in Love to try and I really enjoyed it. This was what I'd call contemporary romantic suspense.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Kerry, I do love Christina Dodd. I hope you enjoy more of her books.

I also loved LOS but have you read The Last Hellion. I think this is a great book and loved the interaction between the hero Vere Mallory and heroine Lydia Grenville.

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) | 2140 comments I can recommend "Untamed", "Forbidden" and "Enchanted" by Elizabeth Lowell. This is a trilogy set in the reign of King Henry 1. Loved all three books but "Enchanted" has to be my favourite.

message 285: by Tanith (new)

Tanith | 50 comments how about something not historical?
I really really like Rachel Gibson books especially 'Simply Irristable'
and Judith McNaugh 'Paradise'

Historical my Fav is 'Again the Magic' but you must have already read it because it is a Kleypas book

I love that one too, Carol.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 630 comments Some nonhistoricalromance that I thought was very good was Susan Elizabeth Phillips especially her Chicago Stars series. They were really good, both romantic and funny, my fave one wasHeaven, Texas

I never got on with Lord of Scoundrels but I loved The Last Hellion. Even though the plot deteriorated in the last third of the book the characters were absolutely great. Lydia was such a promising role model but I did think she rather lost her way once married and all that malarkey about her birth origins could have been dropped for more about her journalism.

message 297: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rachel67b) | 4 comments I second The Bride Hunt Ball!

message 298: by MashJ (last edited May 27, 2010 02:07PM) (new)

MashJ | 733 comments I've been reading some Liz Carlyle recently. I'm liking her style.

One book I would recommend in a slightly different style is Daphne du Maurier's "Frenchman's Creek". There is no happily ever after but our heroine gets to run away from her responsibilities and be a pirate for a little while and I guarantee you'll love the hero: Jean Aubrey.

message 299: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Liz Carlyle is very good.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 630 comments Oh I love Du Maurier and I am going to have to go with convention on this and say that Rebecca is one of my all time favourite books. I have read a few others of hers, but Rebecca is always the one that I remember.
