Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments Carla Capshaw has a Love Inspired series. I haven't read them, but looks like Lady D liked them.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Love Inspired... those are Christian romances, right?

message 904: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments Mostly. Mainly. Some are "spiritual" and not too preachy.

message 905: by Linds (new)

Linds Thank you! I was looking at Carla Capshaw and her books were attached to this list of Roman Romances and have some good places to start:
http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/16...

I noticed that the books on the list were almost all written in the last year or two. I guess I'm not the only one that watched Spartacus and it left me wanting more gladiator romance! :)

message 906: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments I can definitely vouch for The Gladiator. It was a wonderful book.

message 907: by Malika (new)

Malika | 1 comments Her older, medieval books are a bit slow.
I agree with Lady Danielle, Dodd is an old favourite of mine i absolutely love her books, especially most of her contemporary ones.
There's one that's particularly stuck with me... Cant remember the name atm but the h tells the H in the courtroom where hes suing her great aunts for robbing his banks that shes gonna marry a rich old man with one leg on the coffin and the other on a banana peel... The H expression was priceless! I loved it.. He was deeply in love with her by then but he thought she betrayed him by keeping her aunts activities a secret.

Joeera | 254 comments My favorite one is

One Night Is Never Enough (Secrets, #2) by Anne Mallory

i love the hero he reminds me of Derek Craven from

Dreaming of You (Gamblers, #2) by Lisa Kleypas

message 911: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments Really, Joeera? Hmmm... maybe I'll look closer at that one. Wanted to read #1 in the series first.

message 912: by Joeera (new)

Joeera | 254 comments The reason i read the 2 one first is because i got that one first and i couldn't Waite to read it. Here is a question i would like to ask. Do you have to read most series in order because for me usually i end up getting the 3 book of the series it's rare that i get the first book in the series. It as happen when i get the 1 book of the series and then the next book i would get would be the 3rd and up.
for example

Thunder & Roses (Fallen Angels #1) by Mary Jo Putney

I loved this book the. The other book i have in this series is

One Perfect Rose (Fallen Angels #7) by Mary Jo Putney can i read this book or do i have to read them in order.

I also have
The Bargain by Mary Jo Putney

Duchess By Night (Desperate Duchesses, #3) by Eloisa James I loved this book i was laughing half of the time when i was reading it how are the other two books in this series i don't have them . I also have

A Kiss at Midnight (Fairy Tales, #1) by Eloisa James Pleasure for Pleasure (Essex Sisters, #4) by Eloisa James

MashJ | 733 comments Ok , I am looking for a book that I read the trailer for but forgot to add to my to read list.

It is a contemporary romance based in the USA. I think maybe on a ranch? The heroine has remarried following the missing in action, presumed dead of the husband in maybe Iraq? He now turns up to find her remarried.

Anyone know which ine this is? I'll go and look at some listopia too.

Joeera, those two can be read as standalones. The one perfect rose is only peripheral to the fallen angels series and even the fallen angels could be read separately.

message 917: by MashJ (new)

MashJ | 733 comments Thank you for the Anne Mallory recommendations. Read two of them now, very good, a little darker ( which I like).

message 918: by Kathy (new)

Kathy | 2 comments Yay~ So lucky i found this thread! Kleypas' books are so smooth that you can't put them down! Although i have read some of her contemporary based novels (which are great) I'd much rather her historical ones. And yes, like a lot of you here, i've read all of them, re-read my two favourites and I need more HISTORICAL ROMANCE. I did read the first few of the Bridgerton series (Julia Quinn), their very sweet but toward the last few siblings which we knew least about, i lost interest. Both Lisa and Julia are equally good writers- though i would read Kleypas over Quinn purely out of favoritism. Recently, i've also started Tracy Anne Warren's Byron's of Braebourne which, in some aspects are similar to Kleypas in its humour and writing style. My only criticisms with Warren so far, is that her heroines attributes (eyes, hair colour) can be repetitive. Not that this is bad, but it would be nice if each heroine had their own distinctive features. Also the pacing in her novel- for me- sometimes drags which puts me near the brink of putting it down for a while. But if you have run out of Kleypas, Warren may well be your next choice.

message 919: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments I agree that Julia Quinn is a good writer, but she just doesn't grab me like some of my favorite HR writers. I have several of her books that I own but haven't felt the urge to read. I do have Tracy Anne Warren in my to read list and hopefully I will give her a try soon.

message 920: by MashJ (new)

MashJ | 733 comments Very mixed about Tracy Anne Warren myself. It's not all bad but historical accuracy is horrible.

message 921: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Who else would you have on your wallpaper historical list, Mshj?

message 922: by MashJ (new)

MashJ | 733 comments Cannot stand Stephanie Laurens actually. The writing is ok but the plots and characters suck.

Tessa Dare is also a fail here and Gaeleen Foley I just cannot read. Her syntax is just incomprehensible to me. Apologies to any fans. I'm sure some of my go to authors are ones you can't stand.

message 923: by Kathy (new)

Kathy | 2 comments Actually, I forgot to mention Christina Dodd, I apologize if people have already mentioned her, but i thought that if anyone really needed another historical romance author they could try Dodd. She was the first Historical Romance author I ever read and she was my favourite until I found Kleypas shortly after haha. I can say for sure that their writing styles are nothing similar and that Dodd, for me, has some books I enjoy and others I can't read with much enthusiasm but you can give her a try since every author appeals to different tastes :)

Lisarenee | 392 comments Has anyone read any books by the following authors?
- S.C.Stephens
- Krysten Ashley
- Sarah Fawkes
- Jennifer Probst

If so, what did you think? Someone recommended them, but I've never heard of them before so I'm curious.

message 925: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments I read Sweet Dreams, by Kristen Ashley and quite liked it. It isn't very well edited, but it is a compelling read. Read it twice; the last as a "buddy read" in NBRC. I haven't ready any of the others.

message 926: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 392 comments Maybe that was why I couldn't find her. I had the spelling wrong. Thanks Lisa.

I loved and still love it. It's one of my all time favorite books and Mary Jo Putney is one of my Top 5 favorite authors. It's a really great book. It is, btw, the first of her's that I read and I've not stopped reading her work yet.

That saying - 'One man's meat is another man's poison' must be true! I love Tessa Dare, particularly her new Spindle Cove series. A Week to Be Wicked is one of all time favourite books. I love Gaelen Foley's Knight Miscellany series and The Duke is another of my all time favourites. I have to say I have been very disappointed in her later books.

message 935: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (last edited Aug 14, 2012 01:13PM) (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments It's so true that we all have different tastes (except I think we all agree on Lisa Kleypas). Christina Dodd doesn't get much press, but she's definitely one of my faves. Same for Connie Brockway. And Anne Stuart, definitely.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments Oh, yes. I like Courtney Milan a lot. I'm glad some of her books have gone to audio. I just listened to Unveiled (Turner, #1) by Courtney Milan and bought (but haven't listened to) Unclaimed (Turner, #2) by Courtney Milan .

Autumn (sweetdenial) | 1625 comments Ohh Lisa!! I really liked Unveiled (Turner, #1) by Courtney Milan and Unclaimed (Turner, #2) by Courtney Milan but I LOVED Unraveled (Turner, #3) by Courtney Milan There is something with me and mentally messed up characters.. lol!! Smite is awesome, and Miranda is perhaps one my favorite historical heroines. The book was great in my opinion. Would love to read your thoughts.

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) | 2140 comments I loved Unveiled (Turner, #1) by Courtney Milan and just started Unclaimed (Turner, #2) by Courtney Milan Just adore Mark and Jessica together.

I enjoy the characters from Milan`s books, but if I were being picky, then Jessica would perhaps be my least favorite from the Turner series. She is clever, and witty (both required to make a good heroine in my book) but towards the end she starts acting all dignified, taking classic approach: **sings Celine Dion "All BY Myself" song**, LOL. It just didn`t swing with me. But overall the book was really good though. Smite and Ash are capital letter GREAT!! and Miranda just kicks butt being so genuine.

message 948: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Oh Courtney is great. She is one of the newer HR authors I am really excited about!

message 949: by MashJ (new)

MashJ | 733 comments I tried one of Courtney milan's book yesterday and loved it. Unravelled. It was fun that it was about Bristol which is a city I often work in. I am ambiguous about American authors writing about England as often a lot of the historical details are wrong ( I mean, just imagine georgette heyer writing about the American west!). However in this case it was very interesting. I'd like to read the others in that series but they aren't on kindle and my oh has asked me to limit my physical books purchases.

Thanks for the recommendation.
