- Vibrante ereccion, Rebelde miembro

A fun, light read from Emma Wildes, a new to me author. I can summarise this book as cute.

My Thoughts
- Ms Wildes has penned a delightful little novel. I observed that she had a penchant for overselling her characters a little more than I would have liked to read, but it's my issue, as I hate repetition.

Example - Colton was powerful, handsome, and proper, Brianna was beautiful and intelligent, Robert was a rakish, handsome devil, and Rebecca was talented. They think that of each other, they say this about each other, the ancillary characters say this about them etc. Yes, I get it that these people are paragons.

- The plot is what drew me in. A newly married Duchess decides to seduce her husband into loving her by turning this staid and proper man into a pliant and improper one! Them navigating the changes was fun to read. The dramatic misunderstanding hit me out of nowhere, but I understood the reason, OTT though it may have been.
- Colton & Brianna were very sweet, likeable characters, interesting in their place. The romance was cute, understated, and believable.
- What irritated me was the secondary love story. I don't like the waters muddied, as it takes away from the primary focus. I found myself skimming the Robert-Rebecca parts very often and losing my thread with Colton-Brianna's development. Just write a different book/ novella.
- I would be very interested in Damien's book. Although then we would run out of the Northfield men since Robert's story was already in place.

*I had a fun time reading this. Maybe more from Ms Wildes is in store.

I loved this book ! It was sexy, romantic, sweet and also filled with engaging minor characters who had their own interesting little story lines.

This was about a couple that's newly married. The hero, a hot sexy Duke, is a very outwardly conservative guy who lives a dignified life. He thinks he needs to maintain a certain image because he inherited the title when he was a teenager and doesn't want to bring any embarrassment to the family name. He has his rakish younger brother who is more than willing to be the man whore in the family. Colton, the H decides he's reached the age of 30 and it's time to find a wife who is going to be his ideal duchess. He marries the heroine Brianna because she ticked the right boxes: fabulously beautiful, young virginal debutante, was the most popular debutante during her first season and she's also kind and has a lovely personality. Colton treats Brianna like a fragile doll in bed and their initial sexy times are a bit tame. The heroine, however, wants her marriage to be filled with grand passion and wants her husband to truly love her. Brianna's also afraid that if she can't capture his heart and soul, then he will do like other husbands in the Ton: seek a mistress.

She then finds an old banned book, written by a courtesan, that teaches women how to bring a man to his knees with lust and desire. She buys it and proceeds to do just that. Lol. She not only changes her style of gowns but also starts to act sexier by titillating Colton at every available opportunity. There's an early scene in the story where she seduces him in the carriage and he's shocked to be having sex outside his bedroom but he enjoys it a lot. Later on, however, Colton starts to think that his sweet wife must have a lover because she is wearing sexy clothing and trying out these new sexy moves on him and he wants to know where she has been taught these things. The story unfolds in a an enchantingly funny and sexy manner and the couple's bond grows stronger amidst all the angst caused by his growing jealousy and misplaced suspicion. There's also a funny sub plot about her two friends who borrow thē book and find similar success. This was a sexy, lighthearted romp of a romance ! I enjoyed how Colton was always besotted with Brianna and never had eyes for another woman. Other women did not exist for Colton; the guy was never once tempted to stray. He might have been a little bit stuffy but he was hot as hell when he finally started to loosen up a bit. The novel also ends on a cute note with the MC's expecting a baby.

Nonostante sia ambientato nel XIX secolo, vi ho trovato usi e consuetudini che accomunano le donne di ogni epoca. Ricordo, quando furono pubblicate le tanto chiacchierate “50 sfumature”;

I miei migliori auguri,
lady Rothburg

Lessons From a Scarlet Lady was not perfect. The biggest problem for me would be the lukewarm love scenes. The sex lacked the appropriate amount of heat needed by the story to make an impact. Mind you, this was a book about seduction, revolving around the sexual exploration between Brianna and Colton. In my opinion, the lack of intensity in this area was very underwhelming.

Nevertheless, this novel still managed to win me over with its good writing, and well developed, likeable characters. The pacing was just right, and I loved the fact that the story immediately started with Brianna's seduction. I was honestly relieved because I didn't want to suffer reading about the events leading up to her decision to transform herself. Others may think that this was a lack of a proper buildup, but for me, it was just right.

While the writing was good, the main reason for this book's success would be the characters. Brianna and Colton were perfect. I liked Bri's tenacity, her courage to go after what she wanted. She was very easy to love.

Colton, on the other hand, might not be so endearing for other readers. They might interpret his actions--especially when he started to harbour suspicions about Brianna--to be uncalled for, but I beg to disagree. Everything Colton did was justifiable and in line with how he was established in the story. I read a few reviews before I started this and I expected him to be a brutish ass. Instead, I found a humble, caring and respectful man whose only fault was that he was clueless with the business of being married. I couldn't really fault him for being suspicious, because his reasons were completely LOGICAL. Half the time he merely didn't know how to act; he realised that unlike being a duke, being a husband wasn't something to be taught in the schoolroom. He made some mistakes, but he bounced back, determined to be a better husband to the wife he loved.

The secondary romance between Robert, Colton's brother, and Rebecca, Bri's friend, was entertaining as well. I liked how their romance developed, and they added depth to the story.

All in all, I loved this book. I highly recommend this for readers who want to have a lighthearted read. No angst here, I promise.

Gosh I love the whole ‘seduce your spouse trope’,

the hero and heroine weren’t estranged, they were newly wed (about 2 months) they were the ‘match of the season’ which typical means that they are comfortable with each other, but not really in love..yet.

The heroine was worried that they would drift apart over time, so she and her friends obtain this book, the type that goes into detail about sexual pleasures and all, she begins practicing enticing her husband.

The hero was alright, he wasn’t mean or uptight or starchy, he was nice. He responded to the heroines advances and they eventually fall in love 😮‍💨

I would have given this book a higher rate if not for the fact that it was two romances combined. So, every chapter you were in the mind of a different couple. Which means, 4 minds throughout the book. I was much more interested in the married couple, and I believe if the author had written two separate books it would have been much better. But well, that is what we have.

PS: very steamy romance

Brianna, wife to the Duke of Rolthven, has bought a copy of a banned book. The book, "Lady Rothburg's Advice", was written by a courtesan and helps the reader learn how to please a man and keep his attention. Brianna has been married for three months and is determined to please her husband, Colton, in every way so that he will never look to a mistress.

Brianna and Colton have a content marriage, but Brianna hopes that they can grow together and that possibly her husband will fall in love with her. She fell in love with him before they married but is dissatisfied with his lack of attention. She wants him to notice her and to be more adventurous sexually.

The other part of this story centers around Rebecca, Brianna's unmarried friend. She has been infatuated with Colton's rakish brother Robert ever since they first met. Unfortunately he never notices her in return. After Robert unexpectedly helps Rebecca hide from a persistent suitor sparks begin to fly between them. Watching Rebecca and Robert fall in love was a sweet experience.

I really liked the fact that this book showed a couple working to make their marriage better and an unmarried couple slowly realizing that they would like to be together forever. It was nice to get to experience both sides of a relationship.

Brianna was a little too sweet and giving for me at times, but overall I liked her. She did have a habit of forgiving slights before I was ready for her to though. I liked that she was willing to work to make her marriage how she wanted it. She obviously realized that she couldn't force Colton's feelings for her, but she was smart enough to figure out that if he spent more time with her and found her more interesting his feelings might grow. Brianna was an odd mix of modern thinking and a product of her times. At times she seemed to have authentic expectations for a lady of her time, but at other moments she would seem more modern and have more expectations of equality.

Colton was my least favorite character of the book. He was a total product of his rank which I kind of liked. I hate when high ranking peers act like they don't care that they're a duke, earl, etc. It always pulls me out of the story because I sincerely doubt that most of them walked around thinking they weren't any better than anyone else. If he was just arrogant I wouldn't have minded so much, but he was stuffy on top of it. It was kind of funny to see him struggle with asking his brother for advice about Brianna. But I also wished he would relax a bit and let me see there was more to him other than his intense need for privacy.

Rebecca and Robert were an interesting couple. I actually liked them the most and kind of wish more time had been devoted to them. As Rebecca gets to know Robert more she realizes that she was just like everyone else and became infatuated with the surface he presents. After finding that he shares a love of music with her they both start to pay more attention to learning about their internal character. I loved Robert's interactions with his brothers. Watching him be amazed that Colton would be suspicious of things most men would love to have was humorous.

All in all a good read and I'll be on the look out for more titles by this author.

Carinissimo!

This wasn't a bad read, really. The writing is actually good. Unfortunately, I feel that the obstacles were not insurmountable. It felt superfluous. Everyone in the book is good-looking, wealthy and came from exalted family.

The book has 2 romances in it. The main one would be between Brianna and Colton, recently married. Brianna came across a book written by a former courtesan on how to seduce a man, more on understanding men although the spicy parts are there. So, you can imagine what happens when she tried it on Colton (Colton is a stuffy duke) and what would be his reactions. In an era when you have limited access to the written word and no internet, you would think your wife would get these ideas from a) talking with friends (Bri's friends are all ladies) or b) from a lover. And that's the whole conflict for them. The other couple would be Colton's brother, Robert, a rake and Bri's friend, Rebecca, an heiress. Robert isn't much of a rake really. Only the gossips made him to be more than he is. The only obstacle is Rebecca's father due to a misunderstanding a couple of years back which can be resolved in a jiffy and also Robert's refusal to believe what he felt for Rebecca is love. And apparently, Robert is good with numbers so he didn't need Rebecca's money.

I felt like I was in an auto cruise mode when I read this. I am an emotionally involved reader. Again, this isn't a bad book but I guess I am not the intended audience. She is a new to me author and I'll probably look up some of her other works due to her writing. I don't have a problem with the writing, just the plot that feels thin here.

Steam factor: High. As the main is couple is married, you can expect the intimate scenes to start early in the book (below 10%). Not overly explicit or long though. The secondary couple also has some actions but it's only 1 scene. The number of intimate scenes is definitely more than your traditional romance so I'm not surprised that some would dub this book as an erotic historical romance (I would beg to differ in today's context due to the lack of explicitness and the brevity of each scenes).

I'M FINALLY FINISHED, OMG.

I read this book for 13 days. 13 whole damn days. I'm conflicted about how to rate it because I detested Colton and Brianna. They're both idiots. Most of their relationship is based on sex. I like sex as much as the next person, but I felt like there was nothing special about them separately or together. I skipped over most their parts. I'm feeling mildly generous so their parts can get. 🌟 🌟

Now, Robert and Rebecca are adorable. I kept reading for their interactions. I loved watching how they both uncovered each others secrets, and seeing Robert fall in love even though he was determined to resist it. Their story was so wholesome and perfect, and I'm really mad they had to share a book with the above characters. They deserved better. They deserved their own book. They get 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 perfect stars in my book.

Brianna Northfield is the perfect aristocratic bride, but she wants more from her marriage than sharing meals and polite sex. When she finds a scandalous book of advice written by a former courtesan, she takes those lessons straight to the bedroom. Colton, the very stuffy Duke of Rolthven, is perplexed and intrigued by his young wife's new behaviors. Where in the world had she learned such things?

This is the second book I have read by this author and both have featured a main and secondary love story. Normally, this doesn't work for me because one or both storylines tend to suffer...but in both books, I've actually enjoyed it. I liked both Bri and Colton, and Robert and Rebecca. I liked that there was no villain plot, just two couple-driven stories. There was a lot of sex, but more than half the scenes were a shorter length. I really like the author's writing style; I ran through the book fairly quickly and plan to look for the second book in the series.
4.5 stars rounded to 5.

Tropes: Lessons, Pregnancy (main story); Forbidden Romance (secondary story)

Eggplant Rating: 5 (7 scenes)

Heroine is crazy in love with her husband. Their sex life is pleasant but not adventurous. She buys the book of a renowned courtesan so as to seduce her husband, make him fall in love with her and never seek a mistress.

However, her husband is suspicious. He can't understand how his innocent shy wife became a sexy siren and he believes she is cheating on him. At that point he realizes he is in love with his young bride!

Great historical romance. Brianna is a very sweet and warm heroine. I liked that Colton was arrogant and stuffy but so obviously smitten with his wife. Their chemistry was sizzling and the sex scenes steamy!

This is kind of terrible. Clunky dialogue, anachronistic language, the characters blend into one another, the sex is pretty fruity, there’s precious little plot. I cannot recommend it.

Yet, I read it straight through over two nights. I was passably engaged. The plot and the writing asked nothing of me and perhaps that’s exactly what I needed.

It’s a dual romance with two sets of H/h who pretty much get equal billing. The ‘plot’ centres around both our heroines reading a scandalous sex/relationship guide penned by a notorious courtesan.

One of the heroines uses it to spice up her sex life with her staid, Duke husband [I hate that I’ve written ‘spice up’, but here we are] and the other uses it to entice a notorious rake into marriage. That’s it: that’s really the plot.

Can I recommend this? Um, no? Did I hate it? Also, no. Did I like it? Sort of, ish?

Fuck knows: 2.5 stars.

Brianna and Colton have been married for three months. Their marriage is built on respect and care for one another. Colton has a reputation of being cold and straight laced because of his status as the Northfield, the fifth Duke of Rolthven. He’s one of the wealthiest men in England and his wife thinks of him as her dashing prince. But as a new wife to such a man, she has doubts, which leads her to wonder if she can keep Colton satisfied and happy in bed, because many men like him to turn to mistresses for more outlandish requests when it comes to lovemaking. Brianna doesn’t want to lie back in bed wearing her long virginal nightgown with the lights on low as Colton makes respectable love to her as he feels he should. She comes up with a plane to seduce her husband where he’ll go wild with desire for her by using a naughty book as a guide from a former courtesan, the Lady Rothburg. When Brianna dresses in a very low cut gown at the opera, Colton is shocked and aroused. Things go quite well afterwards when the Northfields enjoy a steamy encounter together in their carriage.

Colton adores Brianna, even though he wouldn’t call what he feels for her exactly love. At a very young age he has been taught to be very responsible and thinks of things in very cut and dry terms. He has no room for sudden emotional outbursts and likes to stay in control. Brianna begins to break down these walls he has built, and soon all he can think about is bedding her. His regard for Brianna changes where he becomes very suspicious and comes to the conclusion that the only way she has learned these new intimacies from a man, thus he comes to the conclusion that Brianna must be cheating on him. Things will take an interesting turn because based on Colton’s trust issues, he could destroy their marriage.

As Brianna and Colton’s marriage begins to worsen, his well known rakish brother, Robert, starts lusts after Brianna’s unmarried friend, Rebecca Marston. Rebecca has wanted Robert forever, but her father has a very low opinion of him. Robert finds her to be too innocent for an improper man like himself. With the guidance of Brianna and Lady Rothburg’s advice, Rebecca will try and seduce Robert just as Brianna has with Colton and hope that it will be enough where he’ll turn his back on all other women and decide she’s the one woman of his heart.

Lessons from a Scarlet Lady is a refreshing Regency romance because the main couple in are already married, care for one another deeply and enjoy one another in the bedroom. Brianna is innocent when it comes to certain things, especially in regards to what she learns from the courtesan’s advice book and how to use those techniques in her marriage. What she does with Colton isn’t too shocking and pretty tame from dressing more scandalously to engaging in other sexual positions and acts. Colton loves being with Brianna this way, but because of her openness and these new skills, he comes to the conclusion she must have learned it elsewhere. And I can’t blame him because where would a virginal English miss, who came into a marriage unaware to what occurs in the bedroom, know to get down on her knees and pleasure her husband? Colton’s mistrust could have been nipped in the bud if only Brianna told him about her book, but she doesn’t thinking he’d frown upon her reading material. Again some open communication could have stopped a whole lot of heartache, but then again there would be no story.

I did find Emma Wildes’ tale a pleasing read. I loved how she balanced these close relationships, where she shows a loving marriage with some internal problems, to that of a more innocent one with Rebecca and Colton’s dastardly brother, Robert. The love scenes are nothing too eye popping, but fit the overall tone needed. Some may find themselves a bit annoyed with Colton, not because of his concern with Brianna possibly having a lover, but because his unfortunate past that makes him cold and distant. Other than that, I found Lessons from a Scarlet Lady a pretty solid historical romance.

Edit:

I’m upping the rating. While there were a lot of sensual scenes, I was aware going in and got to simply enjoy the characters and the cozy story. There’s no angst and the people in it are nice. I really enjoyed it this go around very very much. I loved the brothers’ relationship. I loved that Rebecca had a nice relationship with her mother. I liked that the hero had to grovel when he did something dumb and the heroine forgave him. I liked the two storylines. I liked the female friendships. And I liked that the duke in this story actually came across as I expect a Duke would, tons of responsibility, a lot of power, and few as his equal. Overall just a really fun read. I’m going to continue my Emma Wildes binge.

**original review**

This was a sweet read with some graphic sex scenes thrown in. I've read Emma Wildes before for her historical romance and I've enjoyed them for their sweetness and easy readability. Wildes also writes erotica, which I typically avoid. In this story, I don't think Wildes could make up her mind about whether she was writing historical romance or erotica so we got a bit of both.

Like another Wildes book I read, this one also has two parallel romances going on. We switch between Brianna and Colton, a married couple who care about each other but are lacking a certain spark, and Rebecca and Robert, an unmarried debutante and a rogue with no desire to marry.

I was most interested in Brianna and Colton's relationship because we often don't see couples together after they marry. I enjoyed watching Brianna's determination to work on her marriage and Colton's gradual stuffiness finally give way to a romantic lover. Now, while I expected sex since this was a married couple working on their physical relationship, I was still surprised at how much there was so if this is a turn off for you, be warned. I stuck with it and enjoyed their story, but it did confirm my conviction that erotic romance is not my cup of tea. There was also a big misunderstanding between Colton and Brianna, which, in a heavier story would have frustrated me, but here I just rolled my eyes and waited for Brianna to catch on and set him straight (which she does in a satisfying way). Therefore, if you don't like misunderstandings, just be prepared going in.

Rebecca and Robert's relationship had some interesting moments, particularly their mutual interest in music, but for the most part, it was nothing original and I found myself skimming parts of it to return to what Brianna was up to. Rebecca is Brianna's friend and has been "in love" with Robert (Colton's youngest brother) since her first season. She slowly starts to get his attention and uses a book that Brianna loaned her that she found helpful to seduce him into marriage.

Overall, this was a pleasant read. A little heavy on the sex, but the two romances were sweet and easy to read.

This book is passable. Brianna and Colton were boring and most of their interactions were of a sexual nature. It got real boring, real fast. The only characters that were even remotely interesting were Rebecca and Robert...but that's not saying much considering everyone else. Even with them being okay, it's not worth it because Rebecca and Robert's story was really just standard fare.

I didn't think Colton could do anything worse than being boring. But then he did. When he wonders where Brianna learned so much when it comes to their bedroom activities (and that he wasn't the one that taught her), he suspects she's having an affair. Okay. Not the nicest thing to think of your spouse. Worse than just suspecting infidelity (from an innocent party) is hiring a damn investigator to find out if they're cheating. That's the height of distrust! The hell. GTFO.

It was bad enough when he didn't respond at all to her love confession. And then he avoids her for days while he suspects her of having an affair and then has her followed. He acts like a complete and utter jackass during dinner and spouts nonsense about her needing permission to go see her parents and he'll escort her when he has time and that she's under his rule. And then he has the audacity to mention that their vows mention faithfulness and to obey. Ummm...don't they also include cherishing and love?? Oh yeah, he's showing a hellva lot of cherishing and loving in having her followed for suspected infidelity, yeah?

I'm also so annoyed that he was forgiven so quickly and easily by Brianna. I'd have told him to get out of my face until I felt like forgiving his distrustful autocratic ass.

This is not even a matter of him having a reason to suspect because of how she'd changed. He could've simply asked/demanded the truth behind her changes the way Arabella's husband did. Contrary to popular belief, it's not that hard to just talk to your significant other .

I thoroughly enjoyed this book ... it was refreshing

I mean , with all those tips & the reactions it brought ... it was so much fun , I adore both couples ... they were perfect for each other . And i loved these ladies boldness... it was so fun to read , for once where they took the charge and made things happen , rather than wait for their heroes .. who might would have been late ...

A very quick, fun light read. I liked the duel story lines and liked all four of the main characters. It was a little annoying with the mixup between the hero and heroine but luckily it wasn't really drawn out and was resolved quickly. This is my first book by Emma Wildes and will definitely pick up more.
