Melanie (melaina) | 638 comments Me too Dhes:-) Looking forwards to reading it next week:-) I'm a volunteer (I know... what was I thinking??) substitute teacher for a class trip with forty 10y.o. next week in the mountains.. So I'll be taking my Kindle and two paperbacks (serious books with covers that won't shock the kids, lol) ... that way, if I have any time for reading, I'll be ready, lol!
I'm therefore getting my Kindle prepared:-)

I've only read one book... Castles in the Air and it was ok. I have a couple others by her but wasn't WOW'd enough to pick them up.

message 859: by Autumn (new)

Autumn (sweetdenial) | 1625 comments thanks for the opinion Dhes. I kept reading rave about Taken by the Prince (Governess Brides #9) by Christina Dodd but since it is part of series, i never really ventured to go further.

Reenie (reeniejo) | 12 comments Since I just joined Good Reads not sure if Sarah MacLean was mentioned, I just found her on recommendation from Amazon -read Nine Rules for Romancing A Rake - really liked it as a romance.

That's a WONDERFUL story, Reenie. Callie is an all time favorite heroine.

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) | 2140 comments Has anyone read any books by Delilah Marvelle? Some of her books appeared on my Kindle recommendations and sounded interesting but she's a new author to me.

message 863: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments I haven't, Carol, but I'm always on the lookout for new authors, so I'm interested to hear what others might have to say.

message 864: by Trewen (new)

Trewen | 33 comments I've read Delilah Marvelle's School of Gallantry
I really liked them, especially the first one in the series.
Mistress of Pleasure

message 865: by Autumn (new)

Autumn (sweetdenial) | 1625 comments mm Carol i have read Lord of Pleasure (School of Gallantry #2) by Delilah Marvelle ...(the second in the SOG seeries) and even though it got high praise-compared to writter Loretta Chaise, i must say that i didnt like it much.. characters didnt really developed, and it had such cheesy lame punch lines that it just threw me off. However, she might be your cup of tea. if feel like trying a new author then go for it! ;)

message 866: by Trewen (new)

Trewen | 33 comments Marvelle's S of G series is just a light and fun kind of read. Not at all deep.

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) | 2140 comments Thanks everyone for your comments about Delilah Marvelle's and I am considering giving her books a try!

Shelly (shellye77) Carol wrote: "Thanks everyone for your comments about Delilah Marvelle's and I am considering giving her books a try!"

I've read the first two of hers in the Scandal series, they are very different from most of what I've read in historicals, but I really liked them.

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) | 2140 comments Thanks Shell's. After your comments, I will definitely read the first book and see what I think.

message 871: by Shelly (new)

Shelly (shellye77) Cant wait to hear what you think of them!

message 872: by Blaze (new)

Blaze King | 4 comments Lisa Kleypas is my favourite writer like all of yours. And i think Johanna Lindsey , Judith McNaught, Sabrina Jeffries and Chriatina Dodd (for her governess series) are just like Lisa Kleypas. Not necessarily in writing style, but all of them write fantastical characters - eapecially, HEROES ! I love how they can draw out our emotions along with the hero and heroine. My gut wrenches every time i read any of their work. Now, i have read few writers other than these, like the few mentioned in this thread here but none of them could actually make me feel what my favourite authors do. So, if you have read all the writers i gushed about then you know what i say, and plz recommend me some author or book that you think could do justice or come close to their work.

I'd go with one of these, Autumn:
Love Is Blind by Lynsay Sands The Perfect Wife by Lynsay Sands The Switch by Lynsay Sands The Brat by Lynsay Sands

FYI - I love all those heroes I mentioned, but they're not as die-hard alpha as McNaught's books... More along the lines of LK!!

message 877: by Laura (new)

Laura Landon (lauralandon) | 108 comments I'm just finishing What Happens in London (Bevelstoke #2) by Julia Quinn . If you haven't read it, it's a MUST read!

No Prob ! I'll give them a look nonetheless. If their heroes r even 80 percent closer to Lisa Kleypas' , i'll love 'em !!! :)

message 880: by Marilyn (new)

Marilyn (mbk1857) If you like to read westerns as well as LK as I do, then Hannah's Vow by Pam Crooks has been reduced in price to $.99. A review from another Goodread's member said she enjoyed it very much and recommeded it.

message 881: by Heidi (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments I am looking hard for contemporaries that have the same intensity as LK's Travis series, although less chick lit-like. Please let me know if you have found some. I am not big on mainstream contemporaries because they fail to engage me. But I do like the very intense, emotional ones, like LK writes. I also like Catherine Anderson's. Any along those lines would be welcome.

Hey Danielle, I'm not sure if you're already over this topic but I also tend to compare and look for books which are as awesome as LK's Travis series.

I recently read Jill Shalvis' Seeing Red and I must say, it's good. Have you come across any other contemporaries comparable to LK? I've run out of books to read!

message 886: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Hi Koosh. I haven't found very many mainstream contemporaries lately that get my interest. Catherine Anderson remains a favorite though.

Baby Love is the first book I read by her.

I haven't read any Jill Shalvis. I hear her name a lot though.

You should try her books. I think Simply Irresistable (Bk 1 Lucky Harbour series) and The Sweetest Thing (Bk 2) is really good. I've re-read them quite a few times and eagerly anticipating Bk 3.

Lady Danielle, Did you like/love Baby Love? I have it, but haven't read it yet. Did you ever try Judith McNaught? I loved Paradise, Perfect and Someone to Watch over Me. She is the queen of angst, misunderstandings, separation, etc. JM got me into romance/historical romance and has a special place in my heart.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Zumbagirl, I love Baby Love! My first Catherine Anderson book ever! I haven't read any of Judith McNaught's contemporaries, but I have most of them. I'll give them a try. Thanks.

message 891: by Zumbagirl (new)

Zumbagirl | 90 comments I just got my first LK contemporary - Blue-Eyed Devil. JM's contemporaries have mixed reviews, but I loved those 3 I mentioned. Her books are probably PG-13 and STWOM is probably PG, whereas LK's I'd usually give an R. But lots of romance for both authors.

message 892: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments I hope you like Blue-Eyed Devil, Zumbagirl. I loved it. I don't mind a less sexy read, so that's okay with me that JM isn't as hot as LK.

message 893: by Zumbagirl (new)

Zumbagirl | 90 comments There is no way JM is as sexy as LK, but still she creates a wonderful alpha male hero - Matt in Paradise is not cynical, but Zack is rather dark. Michael in STWOM is just wonderful, maybe even too wonderful. I scream or cry at least once in all her books, so that must mean something.

message 894: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments I've noticed that JM's books are very angsty and send my emotions up and down. Haven't read her in a long time.

message 900: by Linds (last edited Feb 12, 2012 08:00PM) (new)

Linds I have a question for all my fellow historical romance lovers: I just watched season 1 Spartacus from Starz....SO romantic! (Though a warning, it's a definitely R rated show for sex & violence.)

I thought the most romantic part was Crixus and Naemia. I've pretty much only read romances that take place in the 1700 & 1800's. Does anyone know of any good Roman/Gladiator historical romances? I'd love to read some!! Thanks!
