Well, dash it all, Amazon have just emailed me to tell me that they have a delay on the new Loretta Chase book. I guess I'll have plenty of other reading options though.

Interesting fact re Loretta Chase- in Mr Impossible Daphne is based on Dorothea from Middlemarch (one of my all time favourite books). I had suspected that she might be (the similarities in character and experience were too similar particularly the dead husband who seemed very close to Casaubon) but it was good to see it confirmed.

I'm currently focusing on reading her works as Kinley MacGregor, she's a very versatile writer who has a fluid style and sense of humor whether historical or paranormal romance. I'm loving her Brotherhood of the Sword/MacAllister series so far, though I haven't read it in order

OMG I almost got busted while on the job. I'm a frontliner so I face customers and if things are lax at the office, I sneak an ebook read so it's not that obvious. I was reading a Kresley Cole book and I laughed out loud like "haHAHAHAhaha" then the customer I was serving got a weird look so I said sorry. Glad he didn't complain, an whenever I try so hard not to laugh I bite my inner cheek and sometimes excuse myself just to laugh!

Thanks for letting me know, Beverly. I just chose not to read the responses just in case, but with a thread like this where we discuss lots of different books, it's sometimes hard to skip over stuff I don't want to know if someone unthinkingly starts veering into spoiler territory. I just thought I'd make a polite request, in case someone might not have considered that. I hope I'm not stepping on any toes, but I just hate to be spoiled especially with a series like Outlander that I have so much time and energy invested in.:-)

Mshj! If you haven't read the other 6 books in the Outlander series, stop reading Echo right now! :) That series must be read in order...the world building is incredibly dense and each book depends on the book that came before.

I'm up to book #5 - The Fiery Cross - which I hope to listen next year...the books are really long...that's why I haven't been tempted to pick them up, even though I listened 2-4 one after the other two years ago (but that was before I found Goodreads/PBS and my TBR went through the roof.)

Yessir! I've ordered number one...

It's actually quite unusual these days to buy a book that doesn't standalone (I read most of the LK series out of order!). It's not a complaint. I rather miss the days of the seventies when books weighed like bricks and were frequently part of trilogies that had to be read in order and gently meandered through the plot rather than getting straight to the action.

Hey:-) I know it's been a while since you posted, but the few books where the hero cheated in a HR that I've read (not my fave theme either) are: Perfect Sin, where Rand majorly screws up and acts like an a** and spends the last third getting forgiven, Wanton Angel, where Eli also betrays Bonnie before the start of the book (but I didn't like this one as much), and then there's a lot of books where the heroes almost cheat/seem like they're cheating, etc... Like The Velvet Promise, and if you like more modern westerns, Diana Palmer has heroes that really screw up (without cheating) and have to grovel... My fave was Lawless, and Heartless and Fearless are great too:-)

Beverly | 64 comments Question - it's almost September and I like to read holiday themed books around Christmas. I prefer historical romances with a HEA and a "cozy" feeling. Any suggestions, or is it too early? It is still 90 degrees here:)but I like to line up books to read. I've pre-ordered Lisa's Friday Harbor novel. Thanks!

Yes- I have read this one too- I preferred Second Sight I think.I read several of hers in a row and then realised how samey they were and went off them. I also found the whole Vanza theme bizarre-the Arcane society was a bit better but she never seemed to think through her plots to completion. It's weird really as I like nothing better than a good gothic novel and I'm as happy with fairies and dragons etc if well written.

BTW I really enjoyed Two Little Lies (far more than one little sin) and I'm going to read the last in the series for the September challenge. Quinn and Vivi were an excellent couple- he made so many mistakes but at least he learnt from his errors!

MashJ | 733 comments I started rereading An Offer from a Gentleman last night. I don't know why I like it so much- JQ is very good at dialogue I guess but the whole story just works for me so 5 stars.

Benedict isn't my perfect hero though- Sophie was working her socks off and he all he could think about was why she wasn't telling everything he "deserved" to know. I had similar problems with Colin Bridgerton- they had it SO easy those boys. I loved the dual character JQ gave sophie- very shakespearian that type of thing.

The only Christmas read I can think of right now is Mary Balogh's "Simply Unforgettable". The first section is set in a snow storm as the H & H are returning home after Christmas.

Simply Unforgettable (Simply Quartet 1) by Mary Balogh

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 630 comments I tend not to read the Amanda Quick books next to each other, but I know what you mean, as soon as I pick one up and start reading I know what is going to happen. I have only read the Vanza Society books, it all depends what my library has in really!!

I actually preferred One Little Sin, I wanted to knock Quin and Vivi's head together by the middle of the book. I am also reading Three Little Secrets for a September challenge!

Benedicts book was my least fave in the Bridgerton series, for some reason I couldn't get into it as much as I did the other books.

I have several Christmas themed books, but the only one I've read so far is Johanna Lindsey's The Present. It's part of the Malory series. And no, it's never to early to think about Christmas. Especially when it's been such an unbearable summer. Well, where I am anyway :)!

Many, many people would recommend Lord of Scoundrels. Isn't my favourite but it is certainly a possibility- I preferred the follow up book which was the Last Hellion which had an imperfect plot but lovely characters. The Carsington series is also popular- I would recommend you depart from convention and pass on the first and try Mr Impossible which is very funny. Of other recent work I enjoyed Your Scandalous Ways (it is set in Venice and I'm a sucker for a good location).

D.G. I'll butt in and give you my opinion, Kate. :)

Two of the best Loretta Chase series are Scoundrels and Carsingtons. I've only read the last two books in the Scoundrels series but they are among the best historical romance I've ever read. The Carsington series is great too...the books are really funny. :)

I think the first two books of the Scoundrels series are out of print so it may be easier to get your hands on the Carsigntons...that's why I'm listing them first. The first book in that series - Miss Wonderful - is probable the weakest in the series so if you don't like it that much please don't give up on the series. The second and third books are simply great. :)

Carsingtons:
