Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) How about the Janet Evanovich (Stephanie Plum) series? I've heard its absolutely hilarious. I thought about trying them but wondering what others think of this series. Is there any romance in them?

I've read all the JE Plum series except the last one. They are funny but you have to like silly funny and unbelievable story lines. I haven't read the last one yet because #15 wasn't very good and I've heard the same about #16. The character never changes or grows. But if you start at the beginning of the series some of them were pretty darn funny.

I highly recommend it, yes there's romance, and a lot of humor, but I'm warning you: Stephanie and Joe's relationship is a very complicated one, hot and cold, and it gets interesting because of a third party involved, he's a guy and he's cool too, it's on book 7 he begins to be involved with Stephanie. I like how this bothers Joe.

I agree with Katherine, you have to make a leeway for the unbelievable cheating-death experiences of Stephanie.

Thanks, I think I used the wrong term, but I think I have a different understanding of the word "homophobe", as per the dictionary "a person who hates or fears homosexuals and homosexuality", I missed the "hate" part 'cause I was concentrating on the "fear" part.

#8 is my favorite. It gets quite interesting with the other guy.

message 610: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 392 comments I also love the Plum series, but had the same reaction to book 15 as Katherine. I have book 16 sitting on my shelf, but have not dived in for exactly the same reason - that Finger Licken Fifteen was not as good as those past. Evanovich's humor is such that you either love it or you don't like it. I must say I was walking around with a huge smile on my face everyday I was reading the series. I also liked book 8 the most because things got interesting with the Ranger. I tend to go back and forth between Ranger and Joe, but I think I'm more a Ranger fan at the moment.

They are over-the-top and silly fun. I use them as brain candy after I've read a particularly intense book.

Beverly | 64 comments Lady Danielle, or any others who might know, would you recommend reading all of Kinley MacGregor's books? I have read the entire Dark Hunters series by her as Sherrilyn Kenyon and enjoyed them. There are seven MacAllister/Brotherhood books that I'm wondering about. What about Kresley Cole's "IF" trilogy? I enjoy Highlanders. Thank you.

I actually read her KM books first, which helped me to get past my PNR aversion to read the DH books. Of course, now I'm addicted to PNR. Becky, I'm with you on the highlanders. :)

Suzanne, I enjoyed the Lords of Avalon as well. There is finally a new one coming out called Darkness Within. I believe it is supposed to be released this fall.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 630 comments I have it on preorder, but have no idea when it is coming out, but I am looking forward to it! When you say this fall does that mean around September time?

I quite like Sherrilyn Kenyon as well, I was reading both at the same time at one point without realizing they were the same person, and wondering why they sounded so similar!

message 637: by Lady (new)

Lady England | 8 comments I think Outlander is the best series out so far. Just love it. Definitely start at book one though. The characters grow and change through the series.

I finished Blue Eyed Devil, Mine Till Midnight, The Wallflowers this summer. Read a few Katie MacAlister books too.

What is the name of Lisa Kleypas' latest book? I believe it's the last of the Hathaways, right? Beatrix?!

Megan | 546 comments UniquelyMoi *~*Dhestiny*~* wrote: "Beverly, another great read was Garwood's The Prize."

I just got this book from the library and can't wait. Garwood is a great author, but for some reason I only like her historicals. I have to finish Secrets of a Summer Night (Wallflowers, #1) by Lisa Kleypas It Happened One Autumn (Wallflowers, #2) by Lisa Kleypas and Linger (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #2) by Maggie Stiefvater before I start this though. BTW, I looovveee the Wallflowers. I was hoping I would like them as much as the Hathaways and am glad to say that I do. I just can't believe how every LK book is excellent and is an instant favorite.

And I agree about LK. Her books are amazing. Truly, I'm in awe of how she can consistently put out book after book of amazing characters and fun, interesting storylines!

MashJ | 733 comments I just checked my orders and I have the following in progress (stuff I buy cheaply second hand often takes several weeks to arrive from the US). Hopefully some of it will have arrived when I get back from holiday next week:

Mary Balogh- More than a Mistress, Summer to Remember, Slightly Married
Liz Carlyle- Devil to Pay, Three Little Secrets, Two Little Lies, One Little Sin
Sabrina Jeffries- Only a Duke will Do, A Dangerous Love
Laura Kinsale- Uncertain Magic
Diana Gabaldon- Outlander
Eloisa James- Midnight Pleasures
Johanna Lindsay- Gentle Rogue.
EDIT- I forgot a pre-order for Loretta Chase - Last Night's Scandal- should be sent to me any day now.

I am quite heavily influenced by recommendations here-it often takes a while to sink in but repetition gets me there in the end.

Lots of books though!

A Summer to Remember (Slightly prequel #2) by Mary Balogh More Than a Mistress (Dudley, #1) by Mary Balogh Slightly Married (Slightly, #1) by Mary Balogh The Devil to Pay (Sins, Lies and Secrets Prequel) by Liz Carlyle One Little Sin (Sins, Lies, and Secrets, #1) by Liz Carlyle Two Little Lies (Sins, Lies, and Secrets, #2) by Liz Carlyle Three Little Secrets (Sins, Lies, and Secrets, #3) by Liz Carlyle Only a Duke Will Do (School for Heiresses, Book 2) by Sabrina Jeffries A Dangerous Love by Sabrina Jeffries Uncertain Magic by Laura Kinsale Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon Midnight Pleasures (Pleasures, #2) by Eloisa James Gentle Rogue (Malory Family, #3) by Johanna Lindsey Last Night's Scandal by Loretta Chase

UM- I've tried to read her non historical 3 or so times before, and never made it through one. I even tried an audio book with no luck. Her historicals are wonderful though.

MSHJ- Just to warn you, Outlander is so great it will make every other book bad to you for a while after you finish, lol. I love the whole series, especially Outlander. I hope you like it also. You just have to make it through the first 100 or so pages and than it is addicting.

Uhoh! I'm sure Johanna Lindsay was recommended here...and Laura Kinsale (several people recommended Flowers in the Storm of hers to me)and Diana Gabaldon. Liz Carlye and Mary Balogh I have been steadily getting into. Sabrina J is an author I'm not sure about- I really enjoyed a couple of her older books but more recent stuff I could take or leave.

lol. I'm tempted to say "no comment". But I guess I'm in an honest mood. There is a, hmmmm, shall I say incident, towards the end that is a major "WTF!?!?!?!?!" moment, at least for me. I think the begining of the next new release shall be very interesting. I would still read the series though. The characters are great and you will fall in love with Jamie.

Diana Gabaldon writes her characters as normal people, and everyone makes mistakes, sometimes extremely stupid ones though. It didn't ruin the books for me though and I can't wait til the next one comes out.

Yes-I like characters that are real and don't necessarily always get it right. Actually that quite irritated me about some of the reviews of "Outlander" from morally outraged of wherever and probably made me order it! From what I can tell the plot synopsis on this one should give you a steer on what to expect in terms of the actions of the lead female character and yet people still bother to write a review that objects to it.

If you're starting with this book, Mshj, I'm not too surprised that you feel lost. This is a great series IMHO (though not for everyone), but definitely not one you should read out of order. There are so many things that happen in plot and character growth that it probably wouldn't make much sense. Outlander is fabulous though, and Jamie is my all-time favorite romantic hero.

I noticed a question about something that happens in Echo (which I'm trying to ignore;-)). I have only read the first three books, so everyone please, please don't spoil me.:-)
