Hello fellow book lovers! I have been a Bookmarks subscriber for over a year but just found this group today. I am a member of the Books on the Nightstand group here on Goodreads. Not much else to say. I love to read, but there's never enough time to read as much as I want. I was fortunate enough to visit the Northshire Bookstore in Manchester VT (wonderful, if you've never been- get there) three times on my vacation in August and I'm quite well-stocked with hard copy books, but I normally read on the Kindle app on my phone or iPad. Currently waiting for the power to go out due to Hurricane Irene. We've had two flickers and the neighboring street has been dark for a while, so I'm just enjoying my electricity while we still can. Vicki
@Victoria
Hi Victoria! I couldn't resist the funnel-shaped bookstacks as we are housebound by Hurricane Irene. I hope you fare well during the storm. I notice you are from Riva, MD. Where is that? I'm from Salisbury, MD, just outside of Ocean City. Lots of rain and wind here, but anticipating more to come. Still have electricity although some areas around here are out. Look forward to your participation in the group.
Thanks Lisa. Riva is about 10 minutes south of Annapolis. Close to Davidsonville/Edgewater. So not SO far from you, if we were birds! We still have power but it is trying hard to go out! All Kindles, phones, iPad, etc are charged up and loaded with books and magazines!

(I believe there is a pic of them in the "Christmas thread.") Electricity or not I'll be able to read.

@ Victoria - Welcome to the group!
Welcome all new members! I only joined this group the past year, but I've found taht it's become one of my favorites, because (1) the tie in to the Bookmarks magazine; (2) the wonderful people who are in this group and (3) the book discussions.I hope that you all enjoy this group as much as I do :)
Hi to all. A few years ago I decided on a career change and now work as an Adult Services librarian in a public library in Illinois. This feels like home now. Have always been an avid and eclectic reader and now I have 'permission' to read as much as I want. As others have said though, there is never enough time. Look forward to the discussions.

Hello - I received my first issue of Bookmarks in the mail today and am excited to join the group. I'm a mommy, wife, reader, and bureaucrat (have to pay the bills somehow!) from Grand Forks ND. I participate in another group Stephanie moderates and heard about both Bookmarks and this group from her. I read most types of fiction and love my Kindle, library and hearing about new books I have to check out.
Welcome to Bookmarks, Karli. Nice to see you over here, too! I know you will love the magazine, we all stalk the mailperson when our issues are due!
Hi Karli! Glad to see you here, too. I'm the temporary co-mod at the moment. Read that magazine! In a few days I'll be asking for nominations from the Jan/Feb magazine to be read in February.

I hope that you stay in some type of mod role, because you do a great job :)
Sera wrote: "Lynn, I didn't know that you were temporary co-mod. I hope that you stay in some type of mod role, because you do a great job :) "Thank you! I am just temporary as the other two have too much going on in their lives at the moment. Don't know how long the temporary will last, it's sort of indefinite right now.
Odd that it took me so long to find this site, since it was through Bookmarks that I learned about Goodreads several years ago! I have subscribed since 2006 and feel privileged that I have had 2 letters and a Have You Read column published! (and as a result got to exchange emails with Jon about books)

Hello, My name is Cheryl and I am a book addict. :)
I love Bookmarks magazine.
I'd rather read than watch TV.
I've been a lurker in this group for months, but hopefully I'll become more involved since I'm (finally) finished with school. :)Being done with school also means I get to read what I want, instead of what's required. *woot* :)
Hi, I'm Paulette from St. Louis, MO. I've been a member of Goodreads since April of last year. Recently I saw Bookmarks magazine at the library. I bought my own subscription so that I can keep the magazines. I am on Goodreads tonight and thought I would search for Bookmarks, and lo and behold, here you are! What a nice surpise! Friend me and let me know you are from the Bookmarks Group!
Welcome, Cheryl and Paulette! We are glad to have you here.Feel free to jump in on any of our discussions. We nominate and read Bookmarks books over a two month period. Therefore, the next round will take place in March.
Cheryl and PauletteSo glad to have more Bookmarks lovers join the group. Glad you found us on GR. Welcome :)
My name is Mal and I am a bookaholic. I am a huge fan of Bookmarks - received a subscription for Christmas a few years ago by far the BEST gift ever! Was curious if there was a group centered around the magazine and here I am.
To find out more about me and see if we share similar tastes check my profile. Friend me if you so desire!

Hello! I'm Christine, a bookaholic from Germany. Last year during a longer stay in the US I discovered Bookmarks in the local bookstore. By the time I got back to Germany I was so hooked that I subscribed it right away. I was so glad to see that they have international mailing! So far I've read many of the books recommended in the magazine and my TBR list is growing and growing. :-) I just found out about the group here at Goodreads and I am really looking forward to talking about the books from this wonderful magazine.

Welcome to the group. I'm excited that you read about us in this month's issue of Bookmarks. I look forward to talking books with you. There are discussion folders set up for each issue of Bookmarks and threads have been started for books discussed in those issues. If you'd like to talk about any book from Bookmarks, check the appropriate folder to see if a thread has already been started, if not, then feel free to open a discussion thread. We also have a group reads folder. Glad to have you join us!
