Carol Neman | 118 comments What does "bovvered" mean? I can only find "bovver" int he dictionary, which is British slang for "rowdiness," especially that of street gang youths, and I don't see how that fits in the context of what you said. :-)

Watch and enjoy...Catherine Tate and David Tennant

Jackie (thelastwolf) While that's one of my favorite vids, I still don't understand what you were saying.

Carol Neman | 118 comments y'all are into season 3 already, and I haven't even seen my first episode...all these unrelated bits about Fringe Code, Walternate, FauxLivia, kidnaps, WHY the kidnap, etc. etc. is not making sense to me, and won't until I actually slog through the first two seasons...and I'm not saying you shouldn't be talking about these things (and I shouldn't just be listening until I can get up to speed) but if you notice in the CT skits, Lauren says "I'm not bothered (or bovvered, occasionally)" when she really IS and wants to make light of it...just trying to ameliorate my frustration in being an unknowing outsider...and I was also hoping someone would get the joke.

message 404: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) I've seen that vid so many times and I never understood what she was saying.
So...I'm guessing you're a Doctor Who fan? I love it. Torchwood too.

message 405: by Christine (new)

Christine That was a funny skit and I am not a Dr Who fan!

message 406: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) Christine, you've got to give it a go. It's fantastic.

Catherine Tate is so funny. I didn't think she'd make a good companion but she wound up being fantastic.

message 407: by Christine (new)

Christine But I don't have one of those things to shut her off, oh wait a minute, I do, its a TV remote. LOL.

When I was reading over this comment real quick, I thought it said: "The name of the class is Brainwashing & Behavior...."

I haven't read Flowers for what's his face or seen the movie neither - I guess I should.

I have a co-worker who loves Dr.Who - I've never watched it. Does anyone know if the Dresden files television series is any good? I've never actually read the books by Jim Butcher but they've been recommended to me quite often.

This is reality, Dustin, not a Koontz novel. ;-) Yes, you definitely should read (and watch) it.

I watched it and thought it wasn't too bad, though nothing that special. It only ran for 1 season (or possibly less) on the Sci-fi Channel.

Can't I live in a Koontz created reality? Maybe I will (read & watch flowers for what's his face).

So another main character (a character people really wanted to see more of) was officially killed off in the first episode of Season 3 - just like a main character was killed off in the beginning of season 2. Now, I'm just waiting for Fringe to introduce a 3rd alternate universe - do you think they will? The character killed off at the beginning of Season 2 was still alive in the alternate reality. Maybe the other main character will be shown alive & well in a 3rd reality? Just something I've been thinking about :-) I do a lot of thinking - especially about Fringe because it's so thought-provoking.

The one that stayed behind to take care of things in the other universe/reality and they had a funeral for and read the will... you know that one :-)

*MAJOR SPOILER ALERT*
his initials are W.B. founder of M.D. and super star named S on S.T. U get who I B referring 2 now? He died you know - he's dead now and we hardlly got to see him except in season 1 and 2 finales.
*END OF SPOILER ALERT*

I didn't like it that much; it could have been done a lot better. And I didn't like the dude they cast as Harry Dresden.

Yes, I know who you are talking about now. I guess it didn't occur to me, because we never saw much of him. You never know though, perhaps he's not dead and just got pushed into yet another reality by that device. ;-)

Jaice Cooperrider (plasborgma) | 1299 comments Jackie wrote: "...And I didn't like the dude they cast as Harry Dresden."

Ditto. He always seemed so arrogant and narcissistic. He is a big part of the reason the show was canceled, as he was leaving to play a role on Lipstick Jungle.

Jenna (bookworm12186) I loved the new Fringe! Olivia is being told by the phantom Peter to go home...once she figures that out and goes home, all hell is going to break loose, especially when peter realizes what hes done and how he didnt know her from fauxlivia. I also think fauxlivia is starting to doubt her mission. I think shes falling for peter....but who wins his heart faux or reality? and who will win the battle of universes? will the show become regular again or dark fringe? very interesting.

Just watched the newest episode about number stations. I wrote a long comment but right before I posted hit a back key and lost everything. Here's my favorite quote from this episode (Walter to Peter):

"If you end up breaking the universe, this time it's on your head!"

I only gave this episode 4 out of 5 stars - I think I like the episodes that take place on the other side better like Amber and The Plateau. The beginning scenes with chat room brought to mind our activities on goodreads :-) And how about that Used book store? The idea of the First People was interesting and kind of reminded me of Phantoms, which we read as a group this past spring.

Jaice Cooperrider (plasborgma) | 1299 comments Dustin Crazy wrote: "...The idea of the First People was interesting and kind of reminded me of Phantoms, which we read as a group this past spring."

Why does it remind you of Phantoms? It is actually straight out of Twilight Eyes, though not uniquely, as a "first humans" theory is a common theme throughout science fiction. The Stargate series is a good example.

message 425: by Christine (new)

Christine I agree with Jason on the 'first people" being right out of Stargate. I really like where the series is headed right now. The whole thing with the vacuum seems crazy but why not?

Also someone told me that there is a watcher in every episode even if they are not part of the story line. It might have been someone on this thread, I don't remember but the big news is I finally saw one. Hooray for me!

message 426: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) Christine, in the last episode? Where was he? I must have missed it.

message 427: by Christine (new)

Christine He was at the scene just after Peter pulled the data thing out of the shapeshifter (the one that was planting the cubes in the radio towers) that faux olivia shot and he fell out of the high rise building and went splat on the sidewalk. The watcher is standing at the barrier watching, of course.

message 428: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) OK, I know the scene. Now I'll have to find it online to watch, because it's already deleted off the DVR. I think hulu will have it by now. I'm off...
(So much for that half hour of reading, Chris, LOL)

I haven't read Twilight Eyes yet so it reminds me of phantoms just the vanishing of ancient civilizations and the mention of Atlantis.

Oh, I didn't know there was a watcher in every episode - I didn't notice him, but from now on I'll try to "watch" for him - it'll be like finding Waldo - nice to have yet another element of fun with this series :-)

Jaice Cooperrider (plasborgma) | 1299 comments Dustin Crazy wrote: "Oh, I didn't know there was a watcher in every episode..."

I have known it for a long time, but decided early on not to try to spot them, because I didn't want to be distracted from the plot and miss any subtleties.

message 434: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) Humm...you have a point there, Jason.

message 435: by Christine (new)

Christine I watched the episode twice, once for the plot and the second time to spot the watcher. Is that cheating?

message 436: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) No, I think that's how it would have to be. I probably won't be able to spot the watcher because I won't be watching the episode twice. You can tell me what scene it's in. Now that's cheating, LOL

Suey wrote: "Hey...any DEXTER fans out there?!?!"

I rented the first disc of the first season from Blockbuster to see what it was like but haven't watched any more than that - I think I will give it another try sometime. Right now I'm doing Fringe and Supernatural. I also want to try Firefly. Are you a big fan of Dexter? I will try to watch it again if you highly recommend it :-) Dexter seems like an interesting character - I even read parts from the books. I would like to get to know Dexter, the Killer who kills killers because both our names start with the letter "D" and Dexter likes to give out Donuts and I like Donuts so I think we will get along pretty good since I am not a killer.

message 446: by Jackie (last edited Nov 15, 2010 09:24PM) (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) I'm a faithful and zealous Dexter fan. I'm rivetted to the TV when it's on. I wish the seasons were longer. That's my only complaint. The current season is shaping up to be one of the best. Quite intriguing with the Lumen character thrown in the mix. Season 3 with Jimmy Smits still holds the top spot, IMO.
Dexter is the most interesting character I've ever seen on TV. He's complex and has so many facets to him. Considering he started out two-dimensional, he's come quite a long way. I adore him. Kinda crazy when you approve of a serial killer, but I can't help myself. Dexter does good work, he's a national treasure, every city needs a Dexter. LOL

Cute...yup - the series is great. The books are great too, but of course, the show doesn't follow too closely to the books - bummer. But watched the first 2 seasons before starting to read the books - so...both GOOD! It's another one I count the days till the next episode. Never tried Supernatural or Firefly...let me know?

I agree, Jackie! Did you hear that the guy that plays Dexter (forget his name) was battling cancer before this season? I was praying that he'd get better so the show wouldn't end or they'd have to try to replace him. He's the perfect Dexter! (I know - I was also praying for myself to be healed of my SHALLOWNESS!!!) But he kicked it, so - yay for us all - him especially! Have you read the books?

Sorry, I can't help myself, I have to butt in on this conversation.....I have watched and read Dexter and watched Fringe and no, Dexter is not better than Fringe IMO. What I will say is that comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges. They are completely different shows. I like the science and what if of Fringe but can't get my arms around the glorification of a serial killer even if "he uses his powers for good" on Dexter. I admire most of the actors that are in Dexter just can't watch it.
