Just watched "The Abducted" Episode 307 of Fringe (not that there have been 307 episodes - this is Season 3 episode 7 :-)
*MINOR SPOILER ALERT*
The episode was very intense at the end - we got to see our friend the taxi driver again. I'm impressed with the character of Philip Broyles but I am so mad at Walternet!!!! Now it's time for Peter to finally realize what's going on. I rated this episode 5 stars out of 5 stars. I really love the ones that take place "over there".

Now it's time for Peter to finally realize what's going on. I rated this episode 5 stars out of 5 stars. I really love the ones that take place "over there".

What I didn't understand was how Walternate and his thugs were able to stop Olivia from remaining in her true reality. Why would her body remain in the sensory deprivation tank while she's in the true reality? I would think that, once she's over on the other side, she couldn't be brought back, rather only she could decide to go back.

If only her mind goes to the 'real' universe, then it's useless, pointless and a waste of time. If her body goes, it can't be in two places at the same time; so if she's 'here', how can they pull her out of the tank 'there'?

We know her body is going, because the little boy saw her the first time, when she suddenly appeared in the Statue of Liberty gift shop (which is the secret lab in the alternate reality). Also, she knocked off the snow globe in the gift shop and id shattered, which is further evidence that she is physically back in the "true" reality, or, at the very least, she can affect the "true" reality.

We've established that her physcial body got to the real universe. I still don't know how can they grab her body and pull her out of the tank in the alternate universe when her body was talking the cleaning lady in the real universe, she cannot physically be in two places at one time. Or can she? Is this yet another unique property of her brain due to the drug Walter gave her as a child in those studies? I'm pretty sure they'll give a reasonable explanation. It's just waiting for the answer that's hard.

Oh, I didn't realize you were being facetious, as it would be a reasonable hypothesis, if it weren't for the snow globe. She could have been astral-projecting into the "true" reality, which would just be her mind. That would explain her ability to be seen/heard by the boy and woman, but could not explain the snow globe. Yes, I guess we'll have to wait and see. It seems the only alternative to her body being in 2 places at once is that her body is only in one place, but can be brought back into the alternate reality somehow, at Walternate's behest.

That damn Walternate! I hadn't thought of him having a way to interfere, but that makes a lot of sense. The Walters are brilliant.

I have the same question - all I can figure is that it takes a while to become stable and permanent after crossing over. The tank seems like a different method of crossing than what they did for the season 2 finale or using that machine that Walter built. It seems in the past the deprivation tank was just used to visit places and her body always stayed in the tank. I mean even Walternet and his assistant had to ask Olivia what happened if her body disappeared they wouldn't have had to ask and they couldn't have pulled her back out. I'm wondering if Olivia still needs to figure out how to cross over permanently using a different method.

Doesn't it? It's why I love it. I like to be challenged.
Dustin also wrote: Well I'm no scientist like Jason
Jason's a scientist? How very interesting! What field(s)?
Note to Jason: I will be picking your brain :)

Your note is ironic, because I am a neuroscientist. :-) Interestingly, Fringe now has the word "neuroscience" floating by in its opening montage of fringe-science-related-words. By the way, Jackie, we've been goodreads friends for nearly 2 years now. :-P

I know we're goodreads friends for a while but I don't know anything about you. So, let's get started:
What do you do, as a neuroscientist? Obviously, the brain, but what exactly do you do?

I'm in a lab that studies the neurobiology of autism, using neuropsychological testing and neuroimaging (MRI, fMRI, & DTI). We are trying to get a new project started that would add a genetics component also. My personal project is on the neural basis of savant skills in autism. Essentially, I'm interested in how brain structure and function are different for people with exceptional abilities.

A Sneak Peak at What's Coming to Fringe in December:
Fringe has been ramping up the tension on its intense story of a war between two parallel Earths — but in the next two episodes, the action gets even spookier and more insane. Here's our spoiler-free preview.
We were on the edge of our seat with impatience after seeing the end of last week's episode, in which the alternate-universe version of mad scientist Walter Bishop decided that Olivia Dunham had outlived her usefulness. Could Olivia escape from the other universe she was trapped in before it was too late? We couldn't wait to see what happened next.
But we've got bad news for you — after you watch tomorrow night's episode, "The Abducted," you'll be left with a cliffhanger that's twice as intense, and you'll be stuck with a horrifying two-week wait until the following episode, which airs Dec. 2.
Without giving anything away, the next two episodes manage to pay off a lot of the anticipation that has been building up over the course of the season so far, while heightening the tension of the main storyline. Both Olivias are faced with their biggest challenges, and they're both pushed to their limits. There are betrayals, there are revelations — and in the end, it comes down to how good both Olivias are at convincing people to trust them in spite of all the reasons not to.
But gratifyingly, we also get some new insights into just what the hell is going on in Walternate's head — and there are new hints about the nature of this "war" between the two Earths. The ongoing story of the ancient super-weapon gets a few new twists, and the mythology gets even deeper. And one much-loved character gets more of the spotlight than ever before.
It's all fantastic stuff, even if the Dec. 2 episode does have some odd plot holes here and there. All in all, Fringe is continuing to rock our worlds, and we can't wait to see where it goes from here.

Dustin, Great find! Interesting, the nature of the 'war', Walternate. Yes, yes, this is gonna be great!
Who do you think the much loved character is? I'm hoping it's Astrid.

I hope it's the Observer who helped Walter & Peter, though I would be pleased if it turns out to be Asterisk. ;-)

He would for me, though probably not for the majority of viewers.

I don't know Asteroid was featured rather prominently in an episode where she got attacked in the lab. I don't know who this much-loved character is - I hope it's the cow though :-)

Just one ep for Astrid out of how many? She's always there, in every ep, but as a background player.

Hey - apologies to Christine and Jackie for the Dexter/Fringe comparison - shoulda put a big "IMO" in there. And you're right - apples and oranges. Didn't mean any disrespect - I LOVE Fringe - just watched last night's episode and I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for next week!

I was on the edge of my seat last night freaking out. I'm so glad Olivia is home. I feel bad for the alternate Broyles, he was a good guy.
I wonder what's going to happen next.

*SPOILERS*
Another 5 star episode in my rating book :-) Very glad Olivia made it, even though I don't understand how she did it this time and wasn't able to last time in such a short period of time. I guess this is what that fringe spoiler thing meant by "holes in the plot" - I mean she barely got in the tank before they started shouting "she's in the tank". Broyles must have been the character they were talking about. I was hoping the cow would be the star but I didn't really see her - what's her name anyway? Did anyone see an observer hiding in this episode? I thought they might drag things out more after that phone call, but they sure didn't - I'm interested to see where things go from here.

I keep thinking about Broyle's wife and son since we got to know their family in this latest and previous episodes. Broyles is a great character no matter which universe he's in.

I feel really bad for his wife and son in the alternate universe. They just got their family put back together, it's so awful for this to have happened to him.

I've been watching Supernatural and Firefly while waiting for weekly episodes of the greatest show on earth - FRINGE!
Both of these shows are pretty good but FRINGE is still #1 in my book. A lot of the same people who worked on The X-Files are also working on Supernatural like Kim Manners and John Shiban (I think that's his name). Supernatural gets a bit scary after dark so that's when I'm watching Firefly mostly. The humor & story is good in Firefly. I never got into Star Trek but I like Serenity and the crew. Thanks Jason, for enlightening me - I guess I really am a Sci-Fi fan afterall :-)

I LOVE Firefly. Good show to watch while waiting for Fringe which is one of my favorites too. Its going to be a long holiday season when all our shows go on hiatus.
I saw the observer in the last episode. Does anyone want to know where?

Yes. I forgot to look for him.

That's so true! Thanks for understanding and forgiving my extremely biased self!!! :^}

Yes. I forgot to look for him."
*****SPOILER****
He was at the train station just after it switched from being the Springsteen Station to the train station in the real world, was it called Grand Central Station. He was standing to the left of the entrance.
Did anyone notice on Walternate's desk the photo of John F. Kennedy as an old man?
Its the little details that get my attention!

I think we are allowed to be biased here. It makes for good discussion!

Geesh, I think we ought to start referring to you at the Observer. :-)

I noticed a picture - didn't realize who it was. Thanks for clarifying that because I was wondering the significance of that photo.

At work I am sharing my FRINGE DVDs with coworkers. I'm trying to get everyone to watch FRINGE and Read Dean Koontz too - they gotta find out what they're missing you know :-) I currently have both seasons 1 & 2 lent out as well as my copies of Life Expectancy and Cold Fire and I've got people lining up for them so I have one co-worker pass the DVD set or book onto the next person.
Anyone have an opinion on a TV show called "V"? A co-worker recommended it. There's another one they mentioned too but I've forgotten. btw, I am employee of the month at my work and I got $50 cash out of it :-)

Michael C Hall. Yes, I did. It was lymphoma, curable if caught early. I wasn't worried, I knew he'd be OK.
Christine wrote: Dexter is not better than Fringe IMO. What I will say is that comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges.
That's absolutely true. And both are unique shows, hard to compare with any other show, much less each other.
Christine also wrote: I admire most of the actors that are in Dexter
Oh yeah! Michael C Hall was awesome as David in Six Feet Under and he wasn't even an actor. Six Feet was his first role, and no formal training. David is about as far away from Dexter as you can get, role-wise and Hall did both to perfection.
And Jennifer Caprenter, (Michael C Hall's now real life wife) as Dexter's sister Deb. She's completely underrated as an actress, and she is one of the best actors I've ever seen. Watch this 3 minute scene and you'll see why I think she's incredibly talented, a minute in is where she really shows her meddle as an actress; an emotional powerhouse, I cry every time I see it:
