RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Pop Tarts---quality or not?
Favorite Flavors?
Toasted or Untoasted?

I like blueberry, brown sugar, and s'mores, although I can handle strawberry, too. I like both frosted and unfrosted. I want to toast one to see if they're good that way...like I said in another thread, it's been too long since I have.

And quality? Of course...

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I bet to some of the ladies here, Shaun Cassidy has never stopped being important...

Sarah | 13814 comments I never had them in my childhood, so the brief window in which poptarts entered my life had to do with an ex who existed on Pop Tarts, Sunny D, and cheddar. I didn't like the fruit flavors, only cinnamon and chocolate.

I don't miss them at all.

For me, not since before he was important.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I've always like them frosted (not a fan of the NOT frosted kind) - my faves are blueberry, brown sugar cinnamon, and chocolate fudge... I like to toast them until they're burnt. :)

I heard a rumor that they've come out with "wild grape!" flavor - I don't know what to think about the new flavors except that maybe they're kind of weird? I mean, who's the marketing demographic for that kind of weirdness?

message 8: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments The Wild Grape rumor is true, at least according to wikipedia:

People who think that the adjective "wild" says anything about flavor?

When in dire need I might purchase them from the vending machines, but the sugar high and then drop is rather uncomfortable so I don't.

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i am holding out for a snozzberry pop tart

message 12: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Would the snozzberries taste like snozzberries?

message 13: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Bungleberry?

message 14: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments whoever heard of a snozzberry?

message 15: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I have not.

message 16: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Clearly you have, Kevin, since you're the one holding out for it.

message 21: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I like tarts -- but I don't like pop.

message 22: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Oooh. I'm with you there. Tarts are good, pop is bad, except for Thomas Kemper's Orange Cream soda.

Also, Larry, when did you become a cactus? Are you hoping to make time with the ficus?

message 23: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Deep inside, Sarah, I think I've always been a cactus. I've made no secret of my feelings for The Ficus, by the way.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I used to toast Pop Tarts, and then butter them. Everything's better with butter, right?
I like the brown sugar cinnamon ones.

But I haven't had a Pop Tart in years.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments True story:

Geese will fight over the brown sugar cinnamon pop tarts. I've seen it happen.

message 26: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I wish they wouldn't fight over them, though. :(

message 27: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments p.s. I really like that picture Larry posted in 21. It's soooo friggin cute!

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Yeah I know, Bun. It's just... ya know?

message 29: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) I might fight a goose for a brown sugar cinnamon poptart.

message 30: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Why not give each goose her/his own poptart? I mean ... so they won't have to fight.

message 31: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) I refer you to Geese Rules of Possession, #3: If I can take it from you, it's mine.

This is why geese can never share poptarts.

message 32: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Makes sense to me, Mary.

message 33: by Catalina (new)

Catalina | 268 comments Mmmm...I love the toasty edges. Frosted in just about any flavor. However, in my attempt to eliminate HFCS from my diet, I have had to eschew them. But, because God loves me, there is a lovely organic version at EarthFare I'm going to try. Frosted and everything!

message 34: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
HFCS? oh. Corn syrup.

message 35: by Youndyc (new)

Youndyc | 1255 comments I eat very few Poptarts and have never considered feeding them to the geese. Seems like it wouldn't be healthy for the geese.
Can't stand any of them to be frosted. I love the cinnamon, chocolate, strawberry, and blueberry ones.
But I have chocolate chip cookies for breakfast. Poptarts, on the rare occasion I have them, are more like a second breakfast, or maybe a mid-afternoon snack!

message 37: by Youndyc (last edited Jan 07, 2010 09:58AM) (new)

Youndyc | 1255 comments This is true. I felt really guilty about all my food choices after reading The Omnivore's Dilemma. But I'm glad I read the book - it's very enlightening about the modern food supply. The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan

And it has inspired me to start improving my eating habits. I'm still eating cookies for breakfast, but I'm fixing other parts of my day - and I'm looking for a better breakfast alternative.

message 38: by Catalina (new)

Catalina | 268 comments I eat cookies for breakfast. I did it yesterday. I can't imagine they are worse in moderation than "muffins" (aka breakfast cake) or even a biscuit. Did it yesterday. Sugars are good in the morning. You've been fasting all night and your blood sugar levels are low. As long as you're not completely bombarding your body with molecules it can't process properly, it's okay to enjoy food.

I've heard amazing things about that book. They have it on audio at the library. I think it would be a good knitting book.

message 39: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments The documentaries King Corn and Fresh: The Movie (and the more widely known Food Inc.) are all good introductions to the topic as well.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I have brown sugar cinnamon instant oatmeal for breakfast most days, and amazingly, there's no corn syrup in it. Just actual sugar and cinnamon. Hurray for the store brand! Woo!

message 41: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Which store brand, Jackie?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Haggen, Larry.

message 43: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
I have plain oatmeal with butter and coconut for breakfast most days. With a weak-ass cup of Lipton tea.

message 44: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I've never heard of Haggen. Is that the name of the store?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I haven't had tea yet. I should do that...

message 46: by Mary JL (new)

Mary JL (maryjl) | 250 comments I usually keep an emergy box of poptarts--brown sugar cinnamon. "Emergency" means like when it's been snowing for three days and I can't get to the grocery store!

Like most Nebraskan I keep lots of canned good, tuna, crackers, peanut butter and so on more in the winter. If we do lose power, poptarts can be eaten plain, if you are hungry enough.

Tried the chocolate frosted--didn't taste like real chocolate!

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Agreed on the not chocolatey enough chocolate Pop Tarts, Mary.

:::considers said Pop Tarts with disdain...:::

message 48: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments WIll these do?

Dogpatch chocolate "pop tarts"

message 49: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Oh yeah.

message 50: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments There's also an Italian restaurant in DC that makes a Nutella calzone, which is kinda the same idea as a pop tart, right?
