Kristin & Kelsie's Book List! Feel free to join!
Hmm..what's your favorite genre, Suzanne?I always recommend The Witching Hour by Anne Rice. It's long though. There's also The Thirteenth Tale by Diane I was pleasantly surprised by this one.
More serious reads...The Reader, Song of Solomon.
What did you think of 'The Help', Mark? I also read the book in August! I loved it and the movie was great too :)
How is your reading going? I've been reading One Day for what feels like forever now! It's taking me so long to get through it...
I guess it didn't take you One Day to read :( haha!!!! I'm reading Take Me There and it's so insanely juvenile, but a quick read!
Kristin wrote: "What did you think of 'The Help', Mark? I also read the book in August! I loved it and the movie was great too :)"Kristin, sorry I didn't reply earlier. I really liked this book and the movie. It's not too often that you get really good books like this. The characters were great, the plot was new--not something rehashed.
I read it over a couple of days and I stayed up late reading it too. I remember laughing out loud in bed in some of the parts.
I really liked the actors that were cast in the book. I was expecting someone funnier for Minnie and for her to have a larger role in the movie. But overall, I still liked it.
Hi, Kristin. I'm definitely not meeting the goal this year. We Abuilt and moved in to a new place this year, which has taken up so much time. But I'm almost to the point of being settled...SO ready to relax with a book!
Wow! Good luck with everything :) Sounds like a busy year! I have been traveling lots for work which has given me some additional reading time :)
Happy New Year! 35 sounds like a good number. I'm already off to a good start. I just finished reading The Sense of an Ending this morning. It had an unresolved and surprise ending. It's a short read. If you get a chance to read it, let me know. I'd like to talk about the ending with someone.
Just finished Oliver Twist. I was surprised at how good it was. I expected it to be a more juvenile read, but it wasn't. Among the books I want to read this year, I'm trying to read about 10 or 11 of the Dickens novels that I've always wanted to read. So one down!I see you're reading If There Be Thorns. I really wouldn't mind reading that series again, I just have so many other things I want to read too. Since I've already read them, they're on the back-burner. :(
Great idea, Mark! I remember reading Great Expectations back in high school - I hear the movie is coming out in 2012!If There Be Thorns is so crazy, but not as crazy as the first two! I can't seem to put these books down :-o
Kristin,It looks like you are doing great so far with your 2012 book challenge! When do you typically read? I usually read in the evenings after I wash the dinner dishes and before bed. :-P At my previous job, I was able to read during my lunch break because I had an hour. Now I only have a half hour so I'm not able to bring a book with me to work. :-/
During the week, I usually read on the train, during my lunch break at work, and during commercials when I watch my shows at night :) On the weekends, I'll read right when I wake up and stay in bed for an hour or two with a cup of tea :)
So, I'm thinking of reading something Titanic-related around April 15th. I've already read Fateful last year & now I'm thinking of possibly The Dressmaker: A Novel? :)
I'm supposed to go see it this weekend. I have to admit I've never been able to sit through the whole thing. I might finally have to. :)
At this rate I might not be able to get to a Titanic book by April 15th. It's taking me FOREVER to get through the Lying Games #3. Definitely not the best book in the series. Afterward I'll probably read the 2nd Hunger Games book because my co-worker is loaning it to me on Kindle.
So what would you rate the Hunger Games on a scale from 1-10? I'm debating whether I should get into them or not.
I avoided the Hunger Games for a long time because I just didn't think it was my "thing." I might have also been judging the book by its cover a little bit. Although I'm still not exactly sure it's my thing, I gave the 1st book 4 stars. Maybe a 6/10 though. I'll finish the series.
I haven't tried it yet. My son and grandson finished all three.(:
Mark, out of the 50 books I read in 2010, the first Hunger Games book was my favorite :) The series was great, and the movie adaptation was amazing!
Kristin,Are you going to give 50 Shades of Grey a try? I've been debating because I heard it's pretty raunchy but everyone on my FB keeps saying good things!
My fiance will be away this weekend, so that will probably allow me to catch up on my reading! Goodreads is telling me I'm 2 books behind on my challenge. Yikes!
I'm way behind schedule. I don't think I'm going to be anywhere near my goal this year. I've been busy with work and studying for weeks to get a couple of certifications. If I pass, I can get back to reading soon after. If not...additional studying.
Kelsie wrote: "My fiance will be away this weekend, so that will probably allow me to catch up on my reading! Goodreads is telling me I'm 2 books behind on my challenge. Yikes!"Kelsie, if you are 2 books behind, I must be like 5 behind lol!!
Moving made me fall behind :( I was on 1 book for a month!!
I'm sure that when we finally get a house, I will fall really behind in my reading for awhile. :( Jeff is going away on a camping trip/bachelor party for his friend, so I'll have nothing else to do but read! :-P
5 books short :(Want to keep the goal at 35 for 2013?
Can't believe we've been doing this challenge for a few years :-D
Happy New Year, ladies!I did not do well in 2012, but I'm good with keeping the goal 35 for 2013. I'm already deep into three books, which I should finish soon. So I may reach 35 this year.
Happy reading!
Did either of you ever read Danielle Trussoni's Angelology? It's a pretty good read and the sequel is coming out in March. If you find yourself not sure what to read, I recommend this one. It starts out slow, but it picks up and made me want to go back and reread the beginning a little closer.
Happy New Year! No, I have not read Angelology! Sounds very interesting and different from anything I've ever read! I like that!
I really have to read 35+ books each year...I have 130 books on my bookshelves TO READ!!!!
Kristin, have you been entering any Goodreads giveaways lately? I used to be so lucky with them... I think I won 6 books total... but I haven't won anything in 2 years! I'm always entering too. Maybe there is a limit of how many times you can win? Haha.
No, I haven't entered any of the giveaways lately! I took a peek a few weeks ago but didn't see anything that I definitely wanted to read!I have 120+ books to read, so I've been trying not to collect anymore books right now haha!
I'm in the same boat, Kristin. Recently, I had about 4 books going. I always used to strictly be a one-book-at-a-time reader, but I've been having to read things for a class I'm taking, plus reading for leisure, then when I'm on the elliptical machine when I want something not requiring too much mental effort, etc.... So I'll be finishing a couple more in the next few days, hopefully. I'm finally getting to the end of A Tale of Two Cities. I always like the way Dickens ties everything up at the end. Although, when you're reading all those threads along the way, you're wondering why it's in there. Anyhow, I have three chapters left, but I can already guess how it's going to end. Have either of you read it?
Wow, that's great, Mark! I tend to read 2 books at a time - usually one novel and either a Chicken Soup book or a book about a city haha. I am in the middle of a book about the Space Needle in Seattle. I started in November and I read a little here and there when I have a chance.I had to read A Tale of Two Cities in high school as SUMMER reading :( I didn't enjoy it- I felt like it was spoiling my summer at the time haha.
I have never read A Tale of Two Cities. Also, I tend to read 2 books at a time - a book and an audio book for the car.
Kristin: I would have hated it too. :) It's only been recently that I got interested in him. Kelsie: I just started listening to audio books in the car also. I'm in the car at least an hour for my commute, so it entertains me.
Would either of you be interested in reading something together and chatting about it on here?
