Congratulations, Lee! I'm so happy you are getting settled into your new place. Yay for the new library card, too. It sounds like you are in a good place.

I had read that the mysterious visits to his grave had stopped -- didn't someone leave flowers or something every year? Enjoy the double special day, Kathy! :)

Thanks ladies, I'm busy creating a new hold list on the library website because it's much more fun than cleaning or unpacking. I placed a new hold for Mockingjay and luckily I'm now only #200 instead of in the 800's!!!!! Yay!

I hate to be a killjoy, but they probably have fewer copies of the book. I hope your wait isn't too long though.

Brenda | 286 comments I gave up trying to get Catching Fire in hardback and now have it on audiobook. I hope it isn't a big mistake but I want to read/listen to it sooner rather than later.

Hi Lee. Welcome back and I'm glad the move went okay. I've been under the weather for the last few days, and haven't been at the computer much. (Lots of reading done, however!)

I haven't looked back at everyone's posts so I don't know what's been happening in the World of Comfort. Hope everyone is okay!

Hayes, I hope you're 100% soon! Getting reading done is good though.

Wow! Love the blue fish with the m&m scales. Also the spaghetti and meat balls! I don't have the patience to frost and decorate muffins (those very rare times I cook them). They get scorffed down just as they are!

message 4715: by Joy (new)

Joy | 314 comments Love those cupcakes - so cute and clever! Well done! Didn't Bert and Ernie on Sesame Street call them "cuppy cakes"?

Hi Lee! We missed you!

Hayes, feel better!

Okay, I have an embarrassing moment story that I have to share. Yesterday at Benjamin's school (it was Parent Day so every 6th grader had their parents) we had one period in the gym so that the principal could give a presentation. It was packed solid. So they gave the presentation, and then the assist. principal says, "Does anyone have any questions?". Before I could see it coming, Benjamin's hand shoots up. She says, "Yes, Benjamin, you have a question?" (sidenote....I can't believe that she knew his name in this sea of 6 billion people). He says, "Does anyone want to meet my mom?"
OMG. I had this sea of 6 billion all turn and look at me. And then the assistant principal says, "Yes, I'd love to meet your mom!" And she comes all the way back to where we are to shake my hand. 6 billion people are then laughing.

That's so funny Christine, and cute too (well, maybe not for you at the moment). How did the rest of the Parents Day go?

Lee, it must have been horrible moving with the lousy weather we've been having. Hope you can relax a bit over the long weekend (I hope you don't have to have some big-time Thanksgiving dinner to prepare for Sunday or Monday).

Those are a hoot! I would love to try some of the underwater ones.

ETA: Maybe I could think of a cute book related idea for the next book club.

message 4725: by [deleted user] (new)

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in Canada! I guess it is more like a Harvest festival than here in the US. I wonder why we celebrate in November, when nobody in New England would be bringing in any crops.

I wish I had the talent to make such cute cupcakes. But I'm with Hayes -- let's just eat them!

We'll have temps in the 80's today. I hope the sun is shining on everyone today! :)

It seems like the staff in general know the kids, even the ones that they don't work with. Pretty impressive since it's a big school.

Football teams come and go, but cupcakes will never fail me! (Coconut cupcakes excluded.)

I had to change it...Dixie was very offended.

Maude | 479 comments Christine, I think that was one of the loveliest things your son could do. It is obvious that he loves and admires you so much and wants everyone to know you. And I applaud the Assistant Principal for her actions. You should, and I know you are, very proud of him - I think he - and you - are great!

message 4743: by [deleted user] (new)

You know that all of the other pasteries and snack cakes are making fun of him now, don't you?

P.S. By the way, keep dreaming...that's the only way you'll enjoy a win. Haha!

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Got some delicious cake balls at Michelle's Icing on the Cake in Mt. Vernon, IN (http://www.michellesicing.com/cake_balls) today while I was visiting my daughter. Red velvet, oreo cookie, lemon, chocolate chip, pumpkin spice, cinnamon bun, blueberry, and vanilla. They are encased in either white or milk chocolate hard icing. Yummmmmmmmmmmmm! My husband is in and we ate at my daughter's and visited with the granddaughters. The cake balls were a surprise for everyone, as we all love them. Good day today!

Morning everyone. Feeling a little better today. Yay!

Christine, what an awesome experience! Do you think B could sense the tension between you and that teacher, and wanted to try to diffuse it somehow, show how great his mom is? What a fabulous guy!! And what a great assistant principal to come and meet you and not make your son feel silly.

And I missed your new and improved avatar... love Jeannette's however.

Kathy, what yummy looking little nuggets! We used to call them 'donut holes', but I have never seen them all dressed up before!

Cloudy and grey here, but it's getting cool enough to eat risotto, so I'm happy. Pumpkin risotto for dinner tonight!
