I was a bit of a nomad, too. We moved three times when I was in high school, so 5 times in 7 years is a lot of moving for you. During college and my working years, I moved around quite a bit, too. The end result was my wanting to keep on moving around, but my husband settled me down. Now, I just tend to rearrange the furniture to give myself a moving fix. Good luck in your new, permanent home, Lee! Thanks for taking us with you.

Joy | 314 comments Lee, I'm sure you'll love your new home! I haven't had to move much. We moved a couple of times before we bought our house in Iowa and then moved to our house here. I'm sure it'll be awhile before we have to do it again which is fine with me!

message 4553: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 286 comments When I was younger we moved every three years, that was they life of an army brat back then. It made it a little hard on making friends but my parents were very big on making sure that we were able to attend high school in the same school and graduate with those friends. Now I am kinda like Jeannette, I feel the need to move around but look forward to putting down roots.

I'm with you on the furniture re-arranging! I love doing that and I usually get the urge at midnight. My husband is really not thrilled with me when I pull that one on him. Heehee!

I'm hoping this bizarre moving urge stays away, away, away. I keep thinking that it's just because we haven't found the right spot but part of me is afraid I've got some kind of weird moving bug.

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Wow, a lot of posts to catch up on again. I am in a busy phase, and October looks to be busy, too. I got to keep my granddaughters on Sunday and had a great time with them. I put out my Halloween decorations so they would be out for the girls. I love, love, love Halloween! Lee, I don't envy you the packing, but it must be exciting getting into a new home, and it sounds like you have lots of practice in packing and moving. In 34 years of marriage, we've lived in an apartment for six months, our first house for 11 years, and our present home for the remainder. I'm wondering if we will move again someday or stay here into our "golden" years.

message 4556: by [deleted user] (new)

Kathy, I love Halloween too! I go insane with the decorations. And today I made about fifty felt candy corn things (a craft made up by me) to put on lollipops for the little ones in my neighborhood.

message 4557: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Christine, what a great treater you are! I think Halloween decorations are the best and go a little crazy, too. I try not to buy new ones, but every year there is something I can't resist.

message 4558: by [deleted user] (new)

Halloween decorations are the best because the fall weather compliments them. My Christmas stuff always gets buried.

message 4559: by [deleted user] (new)

I like Christmas decorations the best, but mostly inside. My husband does put lights along the roof. It just seems cheery to come home in the evening to Christmas lights.

message 4560: by [deleted user] (new)

I agree with the inside stuff. Nothing beats a Christmas tree.

message 4561: by [deleted user] (new)

A real one!

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
Decorating the Christmas tree is one of my favourite things to do. And having the lights glowing in the evenings with the smell of the tree is so lovely.

I am conducting an experiment. I'm trying to see how long an old lady can survive on about 3 hours of sleep a night. Updates to follow.

message 4564: by [deleted user] (new)

She'll do fine if she doesn't mind developing a hacking cough, headaches, and hallucinations.

message 4565: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 286 comments 3 hours of sleep per night = nodding off during the day time...zzzzzz

message 4566: by [deleted user] (new)

Isn't it just about time for a nap, Brenda? :)

message 4567: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 286 comments ah..what? *yawns* I am still trying to wake up. Another day for the ducks, Quack! Rain just makes me sleepy.

Manybooks Brenda wrote: "ah..what? *yawns* I am still trying to wake up. Another day for the ducks, Quack! Rain just makes me sleepy."

I know rain is "sleeping weather." Today the weather is not too bad, but it poured yesterday during my driving lesson, it was so much rain that I was basically splashing water onto the sidewalks even though I tried to be careful (thankfully, I did not drench anyone, but at least now I know that most drivers do not deliberately try to drench pedestrians, it's unavoidable at times).

message 4569: by [deleted user] (new)

It's beautiful out here today. I'm going to go ahead and decorate for Halloween. I saw a few people in my area that have already done it, so I won't look like the only crazy person.

message 4570: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Jeannette, it is wonderfully comforting to pull in the drive and see the Christmas tree lights. I think one reason why I love Halloween so much is because I love mysteries and spooky tales. Brenda, send some rain my way. We are so dry here that the dust is flying free and wide. Gundula, so how much longer do the driving lessons last? So great you're doing that! Christine, as you stalk the UPS guy, I doubt that the neighbors need you putting up Halloween decorations early to judge your sanity. LOL! (Sorry, couldn't resist) Lee, keep on moving (my little pun for you, ha ha).

I plan to have a pretty easy day today. Need to return some books to the library, overdue again. It's a beautiful day here, even though we need the rain.

message 4571: by [deleted user] (new)

We are supposed to get up to 80 today! The whole week looks to be sunny and warm, but not 80 every day.

Have fun decorating, Christine. Mr. Scrooge at my house never decorates early, so I have another 3 weeks to wait. But, my kid is older now, such it isn't as exciting anymore....

message 4572: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi girls! Have been racing around like the proverbial chicken to the fall medical check-ups. How I loathe living in this city. So hard to get anywhere, no public transport at the times and places that you want it.

Oh Lee, my sympathies with your packing! When we moved I called in a company that did all my packing for me. Best money I ever spent.

Christine wrote: "Packing is such a nightmare, but at least it forces you to get rid of junk. I have moved so many times in the last 10 years, and I don't understand how we seem to accumulate so much junk between mo..."

I don't know either, Christine. As I was unpacking the stuff I began to put things in different piles: keepers, donaters, throwers away.

message 4573: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Hayes, okay, now I have an image of a chicken running around Rome going to doctors' offices. You always provide me with something interesting to visualize or think about. LOL!

I'm unable to pick a new book to read. I still have my head wrapped around The Hunger Games books. Somebody tell me what to read!

message 4588: by [deleted user] (new)

Good morning, everyone! We saw a great big, lit up Halloween display in the neighborhood last night. I'm gonna go over there tomorrow to take a picture of it! The guy has eyeball spotlights, and he has the fir tree wrapped in orange lights. My husband was appalled. ;)

I'll have to think about the book, Christine. I'm kind of in a slump right now, so I picked up an easy mystery.

Have a great day everyone!

He was appalled? You have to do something to reach the kid in him. Maybe get a bunch of those plastic spiders and hide them around the house to scare him...oh! And a bloody foot! put that under the corner of the bed! Yeah!

message 4590: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, first he thinks it is way too early to be decorating. Second, he said "no way" will he be putting up any Halloween lights (like I ever asked him to). We will carve a jack-o-lantern, and we do have a few indoor things. They don't really celebrate Halloween in Germany, so he doesn't get too excited about it. He does like the Almond Joy bars I always buy for him. :)

One of these days, Mount TBR will come crashing down and bury me, but seriously, I have books stacked all over my house and I keep tripping over them, especially at night.
