I'm currently studying in Business Administration in the area of Management. So far, I'm trying to get my papers together so I can get ready for grad school! I hope I'll do well!

message 4357: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm sure you will! Organization is the key to everything, I think. Good luck!

Ouch. I woke up wondering who had beat me up while I was asleep, and then remembered my gardening yesterday....holy cow! I am going to go watch Lisa's video links to help me start my day. Good morning to all!

Thanks Jeannette. Couldn't see the other icon, which prompted me to find some new glasses... ;-)

message 4363: by [deleted user] (last edited Sep 16, 2010 06:14AM) (new)

Could you find where I put my glasses last night? :)

message 4364: by [deleted user] (new)

You can have one of mine!

message 4365: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks, Hayes, spoken as a true friend! I wear regular vision glasses and have a separate pair for reading, as well as an older reading pair for the computer. I could pick a place to put them, but no, I just set down one when I switch to the other. *sigh*

message 4366: by [deleted user] (new)

I used ot have that problem until I got the multi-focus lenses. Now the glasses go on my face in the morning and come off at night on the bed table. Only problem is that I forget I have them on and go into the shower with them.

Jeannette, a belated congratulations to your daughter!! I hope you find your glasses. I only have a pair of reading glasses, but I keep misplacing them (or sitting on them etc.).

I'm pretty sure they are upstairs. I have to hit the shower, so I won't need them -- unlike Hayes.... :)

Loved those videos! Thanks Lisa.

Ronyell, good luck in school.

And hello to everyone else! Hope you all have a good day!!

message 4373: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks, Mary!

I still have to watch the videos. I have my parental controls set on my browser, and it blocked them for supposed drug content! I had a butterfly website blocked once for sexual content. It's pretty hit-or-miss.

I remember you mentioning that before, how silly.

message 4375: by [deleted user] (new)

The really silly thing is that the filter seems to fail for images altogether! Some of the things that come up are not kid-friendly!

message 4376: by [deleted user] (new)

Jeannette wrote: "I had a butterfly website blocked once for sexual content."

The birds and the bees, dontcha know!

message 4377: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Jeannette, I can assure you that neither video should be blocked. One couldn't possibly be considered as containing drugs unless drinking tea counts and one mentions drinking a toast at a wedding, which I guess does have one line that mentions alcohol. But, in my opinion, they're both kid friendly.

I've rewatched both too many times to count now, and I grin wildly every time. The perfect antidotes to a depressing book or other sadnesses.

Ronyell, Congratulations and best wishes with your graduate program studies.

The really stupid thing here is that youtube is being blocked -- like, the entire site! What's up with that, I ask you? My daughter thinks it's hilarious. Now I'll have to put youtube in my safe list. I imagine someone at Trend will fix this. Of course, at 16 I guess I can take the parental controls off now! lol

OMG!! The wedding video was awesome! I laughed so hard I have tears in my eyes!

I had seen the do-re-mi dance before. I wonder how many people missed their trains??

Thanks, Lisa! I had to set my parental controls to mature teenager. :)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Jeannette, I'm glad you were able to reset your parental controls. Too bad about the entire uTube site. I guess it's easier but there are so many excellent and completely G rated videos on it that it's a real shame to have the entire site blocked.

message 4387: by Lisa (new)

I am sure that you'll do very well. Although grad school wasn't easy, I enjoyed it more than my undergrad work. It's excellent that you are taking this step.

message 4394: by [deleted user] (new)

I went to Back to School night at the middle school last night. It's a parent thing only, and the purpose is to meet the teachers and get a feel for the curriculum. Some things went really well, but one teacher made my blood boil. Unfortunately, it's one of the more significant teachers in Benjamin's day. The skinny of it is that she isn't making modifications for his processing disorder (he doesn't understand the directions, but he finishes an entire packet wrong without redirection, then gets a bad mark...and I know he knows this material. It's obvious that he just followed directions incorrectly). When I asked her about it all she could do was talk about getting him on medication again.

Every other teacher in the program says that he manages fine without medication, but she tuned out every other thing that I said and just talked about meds. So today I am going to be "that mom" again. I have already sent an email to his case manager, and I am ready to compose one to this teacher as well, and copy the principal. Here I go....

Signed-That Mom

I'm sorry to hear that Christine. It's like some teachers don't seem to listen to parents alot, especially when it concerns their child. I remember an incident when my mom was working at a day care center and one of the parents told one of the workers there that their baby child cannot be near other children because the child tends to bite other kids, but one of the workers did not listen to the parent and the child ended up biting other kids.

message 4397: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 286 comments Christine it sounds like you are being a mom, not "that mom." Getting the support you need from the principal and others involved seems to be reasonable and hopefully will be beneficial as well.
Congratulations Ronyell! Grad School can be fun. I personally enjoyed it more then undergrad. I felt like I was applying all of those things that I learned.

message 4398: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm going to make you a Super-Mom cape, Christine! You have to advocate for your kids. How can putting a child on drugs help him to understand the directions? If he's finishing the assignment, then he is obviously focusing on the task. *double-sheesh*

I hope this is resolved quickly. :)
