Sorry, Joy :( Honestly, I don't understand the game as much as most others, but I've been a fan forever. Probably because I love fall, and with football I can have it on all day while I clean, or make a big batch of lasagna, and it just makes for a good day. Plus, there are lots of breaks to read during :)

message 4202: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) I don't understand football, don't like it (probably partly because I don't understand it), and don't feel left out either. Not that many of my friends are fans, and those who are I have other things in common with them. We can't be fans of everything in life; there's too much vying for our attention!

Geez, Christine, I grew up in Detroit. I have no loyalties in the NFL. :(

Join the club, I'm not much of a football fan as well. And, when we first moved to Canada from Germany, I thought football was soccer and I was very surprised when someone threw me this oblong ball and proceeded to tackle me.

message 4208: by [deleted user] (new)

Funny, Gundula! Did you headbutt your tackler?

Maude, we in Iowa divide our loyalties between the Packers, the Chiefs, the Colts, the Bears and the Vikings. It just depends on which corner of the state you live in.

They got sooo lucky. I love my Bears, but the didn't earn that win.

Maude | 479 comments Christine, My cousin's husband was the local official annoucers for the Colts for YEARS! Just recently retired. I HAVE to be loyal! I also am a Brett Favre fan so root for the Packers. But you will be glad to know that I was born in Chicago and love the BEARS!

Of course not! I'm more easily entertained by these posts than by having to sit through an actual game!

message 4214: by [deleted user] (new)

That's too funny, Lisa!

message 4215: by [deleted user] (new)

This will seem like a very random question, but I am curious if any woman finds sideburns attractive on guys? I am talking about the long type, not little bitty ones.

Siderburns attractive?

Try telling this guy he's a large species of weasel! :P

Quite possibly, Christine. Let me know when you're going to be there, and I'll see what I can work out. I'd love to get together! I grew up in Maysville, KY (home of Rosemary Clooney), which is about 60 miles east of Cincinnati on the Ohio River. I went to a pediatrician in Cincinnati, used to love to see Shillito's Christmas windows when a kid, and bought my wedding dress in Cinci. I still live on the Ohio River, just on the west end of it now.

I know. As I said Kentucky is in a strange place for a region label. Of course, having been North, I can attest to the fact that we are pretty Southern, except for that whole Northern KY area that is too easily influenced by Cincinnait. LOL! The place that I grew up, Maysville, had as its slogan, Gateway to the South.

LOL!!!! What is wrong with me? I love Hugh Jackman, but I'm not a big fan of the long sideburns. Although, I might be able to overlook them with him attached.

message 4223: by [deleted user] (new)

whew! I was worried about you for a second. I put the pic up for Christine, to show her a real Wolverine, with sideburns! :)

That's great to hear Hayes! What grade is your son in?

8th Grade. Last year of middle school here in Italy. In January we have to decide which high school he will go to. Decisions decisions!

Wow! That's great to hear! Yeah, I understand that it's sometimes hard to find just the right high school for your child to go to! You want to pick the best high school that you can find! I wish you luck in finding the right high school for your son!

message 4230: by [deleted user] (last edited Sep 13, 2010 02:07AM) (new)

Thanks Ronyell. He will probably go to the Liceo Classico, where the emphasis is on classical studies, Greek, Philosophy, etc. Rumor has it that there is an experimental class with more mathematics, which would be perfect. Otherwise it's the Liceo Scientifico. Both options are good ones, it's just a matter of organization.

No, I was too surprised to do anything, and I think it was also deliberate, in 1976, it was not always easy being a recent German immigrant.

Good luck with the school choice, Hayes! How cool that he can choose a high school with and emphasis on the classics or math. There is a classical education branch among homeschoolers, and I tried to incorporate some of it into my eclectic curriculum.

Ronyell, are you a night owl or an early riser? I know why Hayes was up so early, but what were you doing posting at 4am?

Christine -- why were you asking about sideburns anyway?

Emma and I were watching something on Fox news last night, and this guy had the most insane sideburns. It sparked way too much debate between the two of us (me=anti-sideburns).

Oh, no, you've turned Dixie to the dark side?? I gotta call somebody about this!

message 4244: by [deleted user] (last edited Sep 13, 2010 07:14AM) (new)

So, does Emma like sideburns? Wolverine's are over the top, obviously, so who does she think looks good in facial hair? (I love google images, especially looking for hot guys. What a goofy old bat I am today!)

message 4245: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Wow, Hayes, what great sounding schools, the content and the way they sound in Italian. Either one should be an awesome education!

Today I think I'm going to go purchase a new dining table and chairs. I'm got them picked out, but I am just a little hesitant to spend the money. There is a lot I hope to get done around the house in the next few months, operative word is "hope." I want to be sure I spend where most needed.

You are so funny! Actually the guy on the news was not attractive to her (he looked ridiculous), but she claimed that some guys look good with them. I disagree, but I hate facial hair. I'll have to ask her for an example to give you something to google. ;)

Have fun shopping Kathy. A dining table is a huge investment any more. We just bought a new table and my daughter scratched up the beautiful maple chairs in the first week. Oh well, some day that will be a precious memory. ;) All I asked for, a year ago, was new drapes. We spent a month looking for a sofa and ended up with a beautiful table and chairs. *go figure*

Maude | 479 comments Oh, Gundula, that is terrible if someone did that on purpose. I worked in an ER for 25+ years and saw some pretty terrible things that people did to each other but I will never understand how someone can do such trauma to another person.

Well, we were only in grade four, but it was a bit upsetting and it made a mess of my clothing. But, I certainly knew after that, that soccer and football were not the same type of sports.
