I was thinking lemonade stand. No?

Hey, Emma's first practice was rained (stormed)out this morning so I got to sleep until 7:00. Of course, I was up between 2:00-6:00 with the scared boy and dog.

Lemonade's good! And cookies?

We got a big storm here, too, but not as bad as the tree-ripper! My niece wrote to say it was 106 in Oklahoma -- the town's main drag has buckled in the heat!

Since my laptop is currently inaccessible, it's neat to have a connection when I'm all comfy in bed now. Only problem is that I type much faster on a full sized keyboard than I do on the smaller IPhone. I, also, love the dictionary.com on my IPhone, as I can readily look up a word as I'm reading and even have the audio pronunciation for it. Of course, there is the great feature of having downloaded free books that I could read on the IPhone if I'm ever stranded somewhere without a book (hopefully phone would be fully charged in such a situation).

Christine, so sorry you were up so much with the storm. It's supposed to be a scorcher here today, plan on staying inside. Hmm, what could I do inside? Maybe finish TKAM.

message 3706: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (literaryfeline) Speaking of books that smell . . . My great aunt used to bred Schnauzers and one year we visited her for a week. The dogs were in heat. And oh my! When we got home, everything we had taken with us reeked, including the books I had taken with me. I could never get the smell out and ended up tossing them.

message 3707: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh my. Good morning to those who slept! Shame on me for staying up until almost 1:00 reading before we got hit with another storm around 3:00. I couldn't help it, I am quite into this book.

Day 3 of my diet. This thing has no chance of surviving the weekend because I ordered Benjamin a cupcake cake for his party.

How is everyone today?

Hey Christine! These storms are just too much. At least the one we had last night was far away, so no sound. Were Benjamin & Dixie up with you?

I want to diet, too, but I really think what I need is to start exercising! So hot! Splurge for the party and go back to the diet after. Five days of dieting is better than none.

message 3709: by [deleted user] (new)

Benjamin and Dixie were indeed up with me. We had major hail and wind that made me turn the news on (waiting for tornado warnings). It was nasty.

I need to start exercising too. I'm just trying to eliminate my sugar/dessert intake because it's been bad.

Love it! Perfect.

I don't smoke cigs, but I do have a guilty pleasure of curling up on the porch with red wine, a cigar and a good book. I don't do this if it is a borrowed book, I understand it stinks.

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Jeanette and Christine, include me in the "need to exercise" club. I keep promising myself that I am going to join the HealthPark, which is a gym affiliated with our hospital here. I've belonged before and it is way past time to join again. I am trying to watch my diet a little more, as far as making sure I get some fruits and veggies. Last night I had a late night snack of grapes. OK, I confess. It was after I'd had a bowl of chocolate ice cream earlier.

Christine, I hope you can get a little rest today. Cherry, I love the image of the cigar, red wine and book.

Kathy, I am a personal trainer, so everyday I am surrounded by fitness, but truthfully, it is like a roofer with a leaky roof. I am busy doing things for others I don't really get it done for myself. I do try to incorporate reading with some exercise. I do cardio reading. Also, as I am reading if I start getting tired or sore sitting there, I get up and do some jumping jacks, sit-ups etc. Lastly, and this is my favorite, on the weekends I try to hike to the most beautiful spot I can find to read my book. Last weekend it was a gorgeous waterfall.

Okay, you're in! I don't think I eat all that much bad stuff! Okay, I had a banana AND some chocolate for my snack. I don't eat junk food, like Big Macs, but I know I need more fruit, veggies and sweat! Good luck to all of us! :) I'm going out for Mexican today!

Wow, Cherry, that makes hiking seem like a beautiful thing. Could I maybe just be airlifted to the spot? LOL! Seriously, one of the motivators for joining the gym is that I could read while on the exercise bike.

That's what I don't understand sometimes, Jeannette. I really don't eat very unhealthy foods. I, too, abstain from fast food burgers and the like. I feel like my body should be giving me more credit for things like that. Enjoy your Mexican. Ohlah! How nice, Cherry, to be into fitness AND have somewhere nice to hike to! Iowa is too flat! And, I am too uncoordinated to read and do cardio. I should really get a book on my iPod and start walking! :)

message 3719: by Cherry (new)

Cherry | 19 comments I do audio books all the time too. Usually have an audio book going when I am around the house, though as of late haven't done that. I can have as many as three books going at once.

I tried (like an idiot) to play a game on my iPod on the treadmill today. After about 2 minutes I realized that I was going to end up in the hospital unless I stopped. Then I put on music, but I have the bad habit of breaking into little dancey moves...also not a good thing.

message 3725: by [deleted user] (new)

This was the treadmill in my basement. I "danced" as I was using the one at the gym once, and fell right off. That's when I started working out at home.

message 3726: by [deleted user] (new)

At the club, I would watch the Food Network while I was on the treadmill. I can't run with earplugs in -- I can hear my breathing and it messes up my pace. Forget reading or playing games. In the house, I put in a cd on my little boom box.

I'm so glad you were sweating Christine!! I was sweating today, too! They took away my tree and I got to sweep and rake up the little bits. Yay!!! It is gone......

I actually bought myself a an elliptical treadmill last week. Today, they came and set it up in the basement (where it's cool). I hope I have enough willpower to use it every day, but I know I would not be comfortable going to a gym. Now, if only I could stop myself craving sweet and salty snacks, ha!!

I am not a fan of the sweat. That's why I'm not doing my walking in this insane heat. I don't want too much do I? Just sweat-free exercise.

message 3732: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Swimming is a great way to get exercise and avoid feeling the sweat!

Wendy (literaryfeline) Add me to the needs exercise roster! It's hard to find time to go out walking with my work schedule at a decent hour and when it's not too hot or dark out. I do have a stationary bike, but I so rarely use it. :-S I'm determined to start though.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Do I have time for this? No. But I was tempted. Thanks, Hayes, very cool video. I'm too uncoordinated to even read on the treadmill. I can listen to music or watch tv or "meditate" but physcially I have to be on the treadmill and doing nothing else with my body.

I've tried my new exercise equipment, and right now, 10-15 minutes is my limit. Not only am I out of shape, but my legs are sore, ha. And, with the heat, I'm sweating buckets, even though my basement is marginally cooler than the rest of the house. Yesterday, with the humidity, the temperature in and around Hamilton felt like 40 C (104 F), yuck, no wonder I am pooped and cranky. It's a bit better today, but not much.

message 3740: by [deleted user] (new)

Way to go Gundula! Every minute counts. I always put a fan on the floor near the treadmill, just to keep some air moving around me.

It's nice here today -- the humidity broke and I have the windows open. I missed the fresh air.

I should try a fan, that sounds great. One of the things I won't be doing, is reading while exercising, I would fall off for sure (I have to be stationary when I read).

message 3742: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments The humidity broke here today, too, and the weather was much more tolerable. Yesterday it was 103 degrees with a heat index of 119. Today's low 90's were quite a relief. There was a meeting for substitute teachers I had to attend today, school starts next Wednesday. Hard to believe it's that time again. Wow! When I picked up my son from college yesterday, I went in a shop I like and found a great original oil painting and bought it. The artist is local to the area and is very reasonably priced (so far). It was $80 and I justified it by the fact that it will tie my brown, turquoise, and red together in my dining room. All the talk here about exercising is getting me that much closer to joining the gym. If I gave a cease and desist order, would you all comply? LOL!

...school starts next Wednesday."

I can't believe how early kids in the states go back to school. It's still so hot! Poor kids sweating in their seats. I grew up on the east coast and remember going back the first week of September. School opens mid-September here, and when my husband was at school he went back the first week of October.

Have a great day everyone and a great weekend.

Good morning everyone! My daughter is taking driver's ed and she got the 6am drive slot (class is at 8). It is no fun getting up at 5am! I'm hurting with you today, Christine!

Our kids go back to school on August 20, so, 2 more weeks. They do seem to go back earlier every year. It used to be September for me, too.

Where did the summer go?? It got cool here overnight, 60's it feels like. It's lovely to have the windows open.

Hubby comes back from California tonight (midnight). That will be nice. Enjoy the day! :)

The instructor wants to be finished on Friday by 11am, so Lea and another girl get 6am slots on Fridays! How do you look at your drive instructor and say "hell no!" to this kind of request? So, my kid is now officially a coffee drinker. She has classroom instruction until 11am today, too. Yes, driving!!

message 3749: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments I certainly didn't make it up as early as you, Jeannette, but I was up before 8 this morning. A friend and I went garage sale shopping, and I found some amazing bargains. I was able to get the Fisher Price Little People's castle and house with all the people and accessories for $8 each. They were in immaculate condition. At the same sale, I got two more bags of these little people and items, such as a princess coach and a van for $2 a bag. Again, look like new. These little people are the chubbier kind, not like the little bitty ones when my kids were kids. I found an Easy Bake Oven in like-new condition for $3 and a 39-piece set of Blue Ridge dishes (Bridal Bouquet pattern that includes serving pieces, too) for $100 (were asking $120). Another shopper assured me that was a great price as she is a collector of these dishes. They are handpainted and just beautiful. I actually bought them for my daughter. There were other treasures, too, like books, that I bought. Then my friend and I had a late breakfast at Cracker Barrel, and, of course, I found something to buy there, too. They had the cutest Halloween outfits, so I bought my granddaughters a bee one, for the youngest girl, and a witch one, for the oldest girl. They are simply adorable. I need to stay in the rest of the day, before I bankrupt myself. LOL! It was a lot of fun.

message 3750: by [deleted user] (new)

Sounds like real fun Kathy! And, I love Cracker Barrel. I try to stay out of the shop. Not much better than great bargains followed by pecan pancakes. :)

I am running out of steam right now..... Husband is coming home from California at 1am, so we are tidying the house a little bit. Tomorrow we hit Target!
