We are going outside to rebuild the fence now! lol

And this is my final word on the water mains:

Happy fencing, Jeannette!

message 3553: by [deleted user] (new)

LOL! Love the little dudes, Hayes!

The fence is back together. We only had one broken slat, but we fudged the corner a little bit. Now, if only the city would get here to pick the stuff up. Anyone need some wood?

Have a great day everyone! :)

Hello comfies,
I'm having a not-so-fabulous start to the day, but I won't bore you with details (like being rejected for an interview I wanted, and my car suddenly making a clunking sound, and this killer headache....those kind of details that I won't talk about). But it always makes me feel better to say hi to you all. So, Hi, You All!

message 3555: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh Christine, I'm sorry about the interview! (and the car and the headache...)

message 3556: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Christine! I wondered where you were. Sorry to hear that your day has started out so crappy!

I am going to clean some more shelves and closets today. I'm sick of hot and sweaty yard work. :P

Hope things get better for you!!

Hayes wrote: "Oh Christine, I'm sorry about the interview! (and the car and the headache...)"

I'm not having much luck finding a job in the school, which is what I need to be available for Benjamin when he needs it. Too many people for way too few jobs.

I don't want to even know what the clunk is...how is that for denial?

I may hunker down and read today once I pick up Dixie from her haircut appointment. I'm staying away from the yard work today too, Jeannette.

message 3559: by [deleted user] (new)

No rhymes for me today...I think there would be too many bad words. ;)

Can you volunteer at the school? I would think they would be happy to have you!

Don't think about the car -- let your husband deal with it. That's what I would do! (Don't read Hayes post with the little Bobs in hardhats! You might get inspired...)

message 3562: by [deleted user] (new)

I saw the hardhats, haha! Bob the Builder was a staple in our house during the pre-K years so that cracked me up.

Dixie is back from her spa day (she is not entertained when I call it that) and she smells all clean and doggie fresh. I must take a picture.

message 3563: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll be checking her blog! :)

message 3564: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, okay....gimmee like 30 minutes. She is not feeling funny today, but she is feeling gorgeous. :)

message 3565: by [deleted user] (new)

gorgeous is okay! :)

message 3566: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay, her new picture is up...
http://divadixie.blogspot.com/

Hope it's okay to list it here, Lee.

message 3567: by [deleted user] (new)

haha! I already posted a comment!

message 3568: by [deleted user] (new)

message 3569: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 27, 2010 12:33PM) (new)

Get a haircut first, no bows! ;p (Besides, you are always wanting a cupcake!) I'm going to buy some chocolate today. I don't have anything good in the house!

No problemo Christine.

message 3571: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments I took my 9-yr.-old granddaughter back home today. I am whipped tonight. Have kids always been that energetic? LOL! We had a great visit--went to the movies, out to eat twice (well, 3 times counting breakfast this morning), went out of town to see my son and go shopping, read, watched movies, and watched a lot of Animal Planet (one of her favorite shows is Monsters Within about parasites and other ugly, nasty things). Even though this beautiful chld came to us late (my daughter and her husband took in his niece two years ago after biological parents finally admitted that sucked at being parents or handling any kind of responsibility), we have become very close, and I love her so much. I feel very blessed to have two wonderful granddaughters.

Christine, sorry about the job prospects. I've been trying to get a librarian job for several years, and my age has really worked against me. I've thought of filing an age discrimination suit, as the only ones being hired seem to be very young, but I just don't feel like going through that. However, it is very frustrating. On the up side, Dixie's picture is wonderful! What a looker!

Hayes, keep us updated on your plumbing problems. Jeannette, glad your tree work is finished. I live outside the city limits, so we have to haul off our own debris.

message 3572: by [deleted user] (new)

Kathy,
You sound like the best grandma! I bet you are tired though. We watch a lot of Animal Planet here, especially Dog 101...love that!

Good morning to everyone. I'm waiting for my grocery guy at this early hour. Hope he hurries, he has my coffee beans.

message 3573: by [deleted user] (new)

Now you're stalking the Grocery Guy... hmmmm.... I see a trend developing....

Do NOT hurt the grocery guy, Christine! What would your kiddies do without food! :) Wow, these guys deliver at 7am? Is this a local service? I've never done anything like that before.

It looks like rain today, so I might get out of yard work! I'm putting together a photo dvd from the choir's Norway tour. It's more work than I had anticipated to weed through 2000 photos, many of the same things.

Have a great day eveyone! Hayes, let us know when the bathroom is finished. I wish I had had a grandma like you, Kathy!

message 3576: by [deleted user] (new)

It's Peapod. If you look online you'll see it. They deliver as early as 7:00 in the morning and as late as 10:00 at night, 7 days a week. As I know I've said, I save a lot of money with this type of shopping, and they have a lot of organics. Produce is excellent.

Is there anyway that you can share the Norway pictures online once you are done or is it a privacy thing?

message 3577: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll look for Peapod (cute name).

The only pictures we have posted online are on the blog. I don't know if they will be posting any on the ACC website, probably due to privacy. I am sure that there are pictures on Facebook, too! What kind of photos were you wanting to see: Norway sites or choir photos? I might do my own travel photo blog of landscapes and things.

message 3578: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't do facebook...but I just enjoy seeing photos from trips. Of course, I can enjoy the ones on the blog. :) I was just wondering.

Christine wrote: "I don't do facebook...but I just enjoy seeing photos from trips. Of course, I can enjoy the ones on the blog. :) I was just wondering."

Would you like to see the travel photos of Norway, without all the kids? I will be posting some of them sometime. Soon, I hope.

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Aw, Jeannette and Christine, you make me blush. I think sometimes I overcompensate because I didn't have grandparents growing up (parents had me late in life and their parents were already deceased). I've always felt that I missed a great relationship by not having had grandparents.

A grocery delivery service? Oh wow, what a fantastic service to have at your disposal. When I was a little girl, we had milk delivery (plus cottage cheese) from the local dairy business, and I have very fond memories of that. My mother would put a note with the order in the metal box on our front porch, and milk would magically appear the next morning. The real treat was when she got chocolate milk.

Some people here still do dairy delivery (yes, in glass bottles in the morning...can you believe that?) but it's a different company. I started using Peapod when I couldn't get to the store for a while because of illness, and then I realized how much more I stay on my budget with it. Plus, they immediately give you your money back with a phone call on anything that you aren't happy with (even a broken egg). I usually start my order a few days ahead of time and then go back and make adjustments until the cut-off time

message 3582: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 28, 2010 07:51AM) (new)

I used the delivery service at the local Co-op one year. It was a live saver. I was teaching 30+ hours a week, but not all in the same school, sometimes in 2 or 3 different places a day, so I had about 8 hours a week in traveling time. And I had a 6 year old boy at home in the afternoons. (School's out at 1:30 here in Italy.)

Getting to the supermarket was not a possibility! It was brilliant: I booked the delivery between say 4 and 6 in the afternoon and the truck would arrive perfectly on time, the guy would bring it upstairs, and I could use the bank ATM card to pay! It was a little expensive, but worth it!

message 3583: by [deleted user] (new)

We can get local delivery here from the Natural Foods co-op and the local chain store. It isn't anything like peapod, just a service each store offers. I like going to the co-op to chat, and my husband would never let me pay to have groceries delivered! I suppose I would not have ordered 3 chocolate bars, like I bought at the store yesterday!

We also have Schwann's frozen food here. I used to order from them, too, but too many processed foods, like cheesy tater tots! Now I'm hungry....

Kathy,

My last grandparent died when I was 12, and she was not the warm cuddly type, either. My daughter only has one set of grandparents, and they are in Germany (both my parents are deceased). So, we have picked up extra grandmas here and there, and I made sure my daughter has a close relationship with her German grandparents.

I hope I am a good grandma like you are. And, it's so nice that your son-in-law and wife took in his niece. They must be very loving people and parents! Just like you, I suppose. :)

I was just talking to a friend, and I have a question. On a scale of 1-10, how much of a sin is it that I haven't read Jane Eyre? I own it, I plan to read it (doesn't that count for something?), but have never done so as of yet. She thinks that I should be deported.

Jeannette, you are too kind. It's my daughter and son-in-law whom I admire. They've given a sweet little girl a reliable and loving home where she is allowed to be the child and not called upon to take care of herself. I just have trouble understanding how her biological parents could put their partying lifestyle (and drugs) ahead of this precious life. I guess that's what addiction is all about, though. You are a great mom, ensuring that your daughter is close to her German grandparents. That can't be easy, logistically speaking. It's wonderful that she has access to another country and its culture, too.

I'll be on that boat with you, Christine! While I have read Jane Eyre (which is not that spectacular, imo), I have quite a few books on my list like that one. I prefer Wuthering Heights, myself, but I find some of the "classics" just too long and difficult! :P

Christine, tell me that you aren't the one I'm thinking of that hasn't read To Kill a Mockingbird, too? If so, not reading TKAM and Jane Eyre should have the flames licking your behind at this point. I feel an intervention is in order. (Just don't ask me what classics I have yet to read, because I think I would likely suffer shaming, too.)

Thank you, Kathy. I am always mightily impressed when someone takes in a child that is not biologically their own. Such a tragedy that people can so easily neglect their own children, because they can't find the way to do otherwise. But, so lucky for your granddaughter to have a loving, safe home now!

I posted a few more Norway photos on my Profile page. I'm thinking of starting some sort of travel blog. Any suggestions for a place to blog where I could put a lot of photos? How are these things with regards to privacy? Any suggestions are welcome!

Jeannette, I just started a blog on blogger and it's very easy. You can upload tons of photos. I don't know if there's a limit. You have three privacy options; completely private only viewable to people you choose, viewable only to other bloggers, or public.

Go and take a look at my yummy breakfast!

message 3592: by [deleted user] (new)

Lee, I have a couple of blogs on blogspot. I just remember my husband complaining about uploading the Norway photos. Maybe I'll ask the blog expert when she gets back from camp. He might have been doing something the hard way. :)

Yum! Peaches and pancakes and butterscotch pudding.....

Wow, we are all bound for deportation! I hope they serve good food wherever we are going. :)

I have never read any Dickens, nothing Russian, and I avoid most books over 300 pages. I feel better now!

I really do want to read Jane Eyre if for no other reason than it is mentioned over and over again in other books.

Don't worry, Lee, we'll find a little island of shame where we can read and eat cupcakes all day long.

Can I come, too? Or did I ruin it by reading both Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights? :( (And, TKAM)

message 3598: by [deleted user] (new)

Lots of things that I haven't read that I "should" have. We all have our own little islands of shame... I've never read PG Wodehouse, have only read two or three of the Holmes stories, haven't read Anne of Green Gables *gasp*

message 3599: by Maude (new)

Maude | 479 comments No Dickens, no Bronte sisters, no Wodehouse, no Sherlock Holmes, NO Anne!!!, no TKAM!!! Now that I got that off my chest, I am jealous because you all still have so many wonderful books to read for the first time!

message 3600: by [deleted user] (new)

You have to read Anne, not because you should, but because it's lovely. :)
