Sounds fun! I wish I could come with you! Let us know if you hear about anything good.

Here is another challah recipe that sounds really good. I should check this blog more often!

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments I seem to be very tired again today, trying to consume massive amounts of coffee to rectify that. I think I'm getting enough sleep, go to bed late, but get up late. I guess I will blame it on the heat. I have much still to do before my daughter and her family come Friday and spend the night, so I hope I can shake this fatigue. I have managed to clean up the family room rather nicely, a good throw-out, organizing cleaning. I need to clean the screened-in back porch today, and that is always a big job. I got some food in yesterday. Saw an interesting recipe for a tomato-herb frittata that looks good for a brunch item--tomatoes, eggs, spinach, feta cheese. I may just go with pancakes for Saturday morning, though. I plan on fixing a chocolate-cherry cake today.

I think I'm kind of in a funk because I was unable to settle on a book to read last night. I think I might go with Olive Kitteridge now, but I'm still not sure. I need it to be a smallish book since I have so much to do and family coming in and older granddaughter spending a couple of extra nights. I'm saving Honolulu to start next week. I'm such a grump when I'm inbetween books and haven't settled on my next one. I have plenty to choose from, just need to do it.

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Christine, I only think it fair that you know I am talking about you in another thread. In discussing Moloka'i on the historical fiction thread, I couldn't help myself. Here is what I wrote:

"Oh, Lee and Lisa, do read it. It is just sooooooo good! Christine has read it and enjoyed it, too. In fact, she's also read Honolulu. If we can't trust Christine, who can we trust. I mean, afer all, she knows how to get her books delivered through intimidation and weaponry. LOL!"

Ooh, I think this blog is from the person who wrote Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World: 75 Dairy-Free Recipes for Cupcakes that Rule, Veganomicon: The Ultimate Vegan Cookbook, etc. Yum!

Oh, how could I forget to mention where Christine learned her lawlessness from? Behind every great book criminal there is another book lover urging her/him on.

Well, I'm off the hook for what that mailman stalker is doing, at least this time. :p

I went to a book discussion group today and I will be adding at least 6 more books to my tbr pile! *help* Book lovers are really book pushers!

What are they? Huh, huh, huh? I got two books from Amazon today, and it's embarrassing to admit just how much that improved my mood and outlook. I received Awakening Awakening by S.J. Bolton by S.J. Bolton, author of the recent great read, Sacrifice, and Too Scared to Scream by Todd Strasser in the Nighttime Trilogy: Too Afraid to Scream, Too Dark to See, and Too Scared to Sleep series. The latter one is for my older granddaughter who is going to spend a couple of nights with me after my daughter, husband, and baby go back home. She asked me to look for it for her, and, of course, Grammy can't say no to a book. And, I tried to wait until Awakening was available at the library (trying to do that some now), but after checking twice, I ordered it. No patience where books are concerned. (Sound familiar, Christine?)

message 3462: by [deleted user] (new)

Here are the books that were recommended by Books at Noon:

The Road from Coorain
The Other Family: A Novel
The Man Who Loved China: Joseph Needham & the Making of a Masterpiece
Bliss, Remembered
The Quickening (a local author)
Sworn to Silence
Paul Is Undead zombie Beatles

There were a few more, but I have seen some of them already mentioned here. There were a few that didn't interest me, too. It was a nice group, maybe a dozen ladies, just giving a 5 minute review of what they are reading.

Now girls... no bickering!!

Have a good day everyone. Today is my boy's birthday. 13 years old... seems like yesterday they were putting him in my arms all rosy and sweet. Time flies when you're having fun!!

Hi Everybody! It's been quiet around here, so maybe everyone has got a life now, except for me! :p

I will be volunteering today at the Fire Station Storytime for pre-schoolers, really just crowd control. I really like the firefighters, they are great people!

Have a fun weekend! :)

I have no life, Jeannette...I just share my computer with an 11 year old who is stuck inside due to the weather.

Have fun at the fire station! That sounds fun!

I'm back to painting. I'm doing my small office at the moment.

Have fun painting! I have spent too much time with that tree, and yesterday I spent way too much time online. I had completely abandoned the closets, but would like to get back to them before it's time to start school!

Diane (dianedj) Jeannette what a great volunteer thing you do! I love volunteering.

Tonight I am going to see the movie, Eclipse (Finally!) with one of my girlfriends.

**waves** to Christine! I share my computer at home with my workaholic partner...sometimes I can't even get on at all unless it's the very early morning hours when he is still sleeping.

message 3477: by [deleted user] (new)

Have a great time at the movies! I haven't seen this third movie yet because Emma went with friends instead of her mom. Sheesh!

message 3478: by Diane (new)

Diane (dianedj) Tell Emma that wasn't fair! I thought I was the only person who hasn't seen it yet.

Thanks, Diane! I enjoy volunteering at the library, especially in youth services. The kids are always a lot of fun! I'm on for teen crafts with duct tape next week. :)

I haven't seen any of the Twilight movies, but my husband is going on a business trip in August, and I might just watch the first one. It could be fun!

Tell me about it.

message 3481: by [deleted user] (new)

I just added the first two movies to my netflix queue. Anything else at the theaters this weekend worth seeing?

message 3482: by [deleted user] (new)

Inception? Is that what it's called?

message 3483: by [deleted user] (new)

The trailer looked good.

Why aren't there any really good movies at the theater in the summer? It's air-conditioned. That should be a draw.:)

message 3484: by [deleted user] (new)

Lucky me (I'm making a face)...I get to take my son to see Ramona and Beezus tomorrow. Lord help me.

message 3485: by [deleted user] (new)

Can't you take a nap or something?? It will be nice and dark -- just don't drool.

Hubby took me out to dinner! :)

Jeannette -- LOL wait til hubby is away. You can be sure mine is NOT taking me to the movie tonight :)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Jeannette wrote: "We stayed home and watched A Beautiful Mind. Wow! That was really a good movie!"

I saw it in the theater and loved it and then watched it on DVD. Did you watch all the extras? That movie has better extras than any other movies I've ever seen.

Jeannette wrote: "The trailer looked good.

That's just it... it's air conditioned so the movies don't have to be good! I remember in hot sweltery NYC we would go to the movies to get out of the heat.

One film would end; we would walk out of the theater, around the corner and into the other one (a big theater had been cut into two). Didn't matter what was playing!

It's overcast and humid and muggy and grey and awful here today... hope everyone else's day is better!!

We got the movie from Netflix, but I didn't request the 2nd disc. If I can get it, I will. I'm still thinking about the movie.

message 3491: by [deleted user] (new)

That's funny, Hayes! I can picture you strolling from one theater to the next. Probably back when ticket were a little more affordable, too!

I survived Ramona and Beezus. The Milk Duds helped. Here's a question though....why (oh why, oh why???) do they always have to kill off family pets in kids' movies? There is no point in it, it doesn't change the plot, so why do it?

Maude | 479 comments Christine, My grandkids are 11 and 15 but I have never seen animals killed anytime I took them to the movies. What movies do this? It sounds awful and I agree with you totally - who would do that?

Dogs are always dying in movies; it probably started with "Old Yeller" or some other movie from a classic book. I avoid those kinds of movies (and books).
