I'm still waiting for a report from the writing class. The teacher is actually assigning homework every day, too. We'll pick her up and take her out for a few hours on Sunday. It was rather quiet around here today.....

message 3303: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks Wow, homework as well, but I think it's a great idea. I bet it was quiet at your place today, but just take out a book and start reading something you like.

Maude, there is nothing that compares! I drink it cold, warm, and with ice cream (to make a Boston Cooler). I think they still make it in Detroit, too, even though Pepsi bought the brand a long while ago! I can get it here in the grocery store, usually with the specialty sodas. I'm going to stick one in the fridge right now. :)

I was kind of wandering about aimlessly today. I read a couple of new volumes of manga, which cheered me up considerably. That, and talking with everyone today!

Get in the car and go to the store. Do not buy the imitation Nutella, buy the real stuff! You will not regret it. Spread it on bread, eat it with a spoon, combine with PB, or top with cherry marmelade! Report back! :)

I agree, there are a lot of imitation Nutellas available, and none of them measure up. Jeannette, I'm glad your daughter loves camp, sounds like a great experience.

It was directed at my daughter, and how her child feels about being friends (once they are in high school) with someone who was homeschooled. It was hurtful and took me off guard. I've slept on it though, and I'm over it.

Oh Christine, that is terrible. Ugh there is nothing worse than high school girl drama and when the Moms get involved, well let's just say it usually doesn't go well. I am sending you a huge hug.

message 3320: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, wow, Christine! Did you brand a big H on your daughter's forehead or something? I get the feeling it's the mom's problem and the girls will work it out.

Add 2 more hugs to Mary's! :)

They were typing their writing assignments on their computer accounts and she ran out of time. That means she had written quite a bit! :)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments OK, I've added to my list of "must do" this week to finding a jar of Nutella and indulging my taste buds. I'm pretty sure that I've seen it in the grocery store I go to, so you won't have to mail me any, Hayes. I hope you didn't hurt yourself when you fainted. LOL! Jeannette, I will not settle for imitation Nutella, I promise. Your daughter sounds like she is really making the most out of her awesome camp experience. Christine, I think the worst hurts for parents are always those that our kids encounter. I can certainly remember the heartache of having one of my children hurt. I am sending you a hug, too. Oh, and what a great description "took the skip out of my step," Christine, even if it was an unhappy thing. Yes, you have to make up for not buying a book. Gundula, Mary, Lisa, and Lee -- good morning ladies.

message 3324: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Christine, Ugh. Well, your daughter sounds awesome, and a great ambassador for home schooling. Maybe she'll change their/some minds.

Good morning Kathy and everyone. (I can't always keep completely up with this thread but I do try!)

Well, I hope you are over her too, what a rude and disgusting comment!! You DO NOT need friends like that, and neither does your daughter. Don't let ignorant, uneducated boors get you down.

message 3327: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks, comfies. I just wasn't expecting it at all, not from this woman...not from her daughter. But I'm not going to let it occupy any more space in my heart for now. Hugs to you all.

What a bizarre thing to say. You have lots of friends here Christine and we fully support you.

message 3329: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Christine, one more thought. The woman is probably jealous of you and your great relationship with your daughter, so she has to say something to put you or your daughter down to make herself feel better. Hard to believe people will hurt others to assuage their own low self esteem, but just know that what you and your daughter have is a wonderful thing. She should be so lucky.

Good morning! I've been up for hours, but haven't been able to check in. I have my mother-in-law coming to stay for a few days so I'm getting ready.

I'm making no progress at all on my book. It's pitiful. I started The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest many days ago, and I think I'm on page 31 or 32. I have no focus. None. I'm a space case. I'm a temporary airhead in the highest form. I think a cupcake may cure it.

Jeannette, are you missing your daughter like crazy?

message 3334: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey Christine! Well, I finally stopped wandering around the house, muttering to myself. Getting out yesterday and volunteering at the library helped.

But, I have had a 6 minute phone call and maybe 10 brief text messages (class = awesome), so I am needing a kid-fix right now!

I am going out to lunch with the hubby, who has actually been calling me from work the last few days. I didn't think he knew the home phone number. :p

I've been reading lots of manga, because I can't find a book that interests me, and the few I want are checked out at the library. So grateful for new manga! :)

I considered sending you a cupcake in the real mail, but cupcake delivery comes out to around $6.50 a cupcake (for real)!!! I could gorge on cupcakes at the price! (sorry.....)

You are a doll! How sweet that you thought of it. I'd feel gulity eating a cupcake for that price, haha!

If you want to get your "kid fix" I would be happy to ship Benjamin to you for a few days...free of charge!

message 3336: by [deleted user] (new)

Does he enjoy playing video games and beating the dad? Then send him over! :)

message 3337: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, he does. He also has endless energy, eats non-stop and gains nothing (for lunch today he had two sandwiches, chips, three bowls of fruit, pretzels, and he was still hungry....oh, and he only weighs 61 pounds for an almost 12 year old)...he paces non-stop, he asks questions non-stop, he checks the weather non-stop, he also gives you weather facts and stats non-stop...should I continue or are you sold?

message 3338: by [deleted user] (new)

Yup! My daughter is 5'8" and 110; my husband is 6' and 145. I live with the stick people!!

I don't know if I could handle the non-top weather stats. I'll get back to you..... :)

You love him anyway AND you would miss him (after a few days, I suppose).

message 3339: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Jeannette, I love the new bag idea for Christine. Pretty soon we will have you one for every day of the week. LOL! I do so love message totes. Jeannette, you really do live with the stick people, which just reminds me of the weight I need to lose. I think I'll go give it some more thought as I eat an ice cream sandwich. Hey, they're Weight Watcher ones.

I'm working on my family room still. I don't know why I thought I could get it in shape without involving the book case out there. However, I am finding some books and magazines that I had forgotten about. And, yes, that does slow work down considerably, but it also makes it more interesting.

message 3340: by [deleted user] (new)

Pass me one of those ice creams, Kathy! Ugh, I really want to lose weight, too, but I like to eat. Go figure!

I ran out of steam with bookshelf cleaning, but I'll get back to it. The weather finally got hot here, so I'll be inside anyway!

Happy reading today!

Good morning, Miss Jeannette and comfies! I wish I slept until 7:30. Mother-in-law and I are doing home projects today. It's 37692014375829583 degrees here, but with the humidity it feels more like 386938143758299994.

message 3343: by [deleted user] (new)

It was pretty hot here yesterday, around 100, plus humid. We got some nice thunderstorms. I guess I am pretty happy I live in Iowa and not Indiana.

Jeannette, 7:30 is not sleeping in. I might be able to give you 8:30, but 7:30, no. LOL!

message 3345: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments It's horribly hot here, too. 100 degrees, maybe more today. I was in most of the day, went out to meet a couple of friends to eat tonight. I've made some real progress on the family room, spent another couple of hours, okay, one hour in there today. The bookshelves need a little more sorting, but I can easily finish that tomorrow. Keep cool, girls.

message 3346: by [deleted user] (new)

My daughter called and talked to us for a whole 1/2 hour tonight! She is having a great time writing and writing. She has lots of homework, too, but she wants to do it! I'll remember that when school starts in August.

The temps here are cooling off at night, which is really weird for July. And my lawn is still green. Definitely an unusual summer for Iowa.

See you all in the morning!

I wish it cooled off at night in Southern Ontario. It is the one thing I miss about Calgary, due to the low relative humidity, it usually gets cool at night, even in summer. It's raining tonight, but warm, and I'm going to keep the windows open, unless we get thunderstorms.

message 3350: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments We got a really good thunderstorm/rain last night, into the wee hours, so I was hoping it would mean a cool down. Well, the paper described today as "steamy." Yikes! Although the temp is supposed to be around 92, which is down from 100.

On the sleeping in subject. I have a friend who rises at 3:00 a.m. every day. She doesn't have to get up for anything, just gets up at that time. I hate to say it, but me thinks my friend is a bit mentally unbalanced, which, of course, makes her the perfect friend for me. LOL!

Oh, and today is "taste Nutella day." I bought a jar and plan on dipping into it later.
