There is a fully stocked bar at reading camp, Christine, with a bartender who is shirtless and has abs of steel, with a nice tan to boot (doesn't say much, but who cares). There is, also, a barista serving coffee and tea. The barista is not a hunk, but is a very accomodating and personable young man. (I'm really getting into this fantasy) And, what would reading camp be without the dessert cart? Ah, I see your apple cake is on the cart. Nice. Jeannette, I am in favor of a group song. Any ideas for one?

The above is what happens when I am unable to access the Internet for a whole day. I guess it is getting to be time to call the cable people. Hmm, maybe I'll get the cable guy that works out with the above bartender. Sometimes, I think I might be alone too much. LOL!

Kathy, I love your fantasy and I am sitting here enjoying a warm, moist and delicious piece of apple cake fresh from the oven. All that's missing is the hunky bartender! Where'd he go???

I've got him here with me and won't share. Did I mention he looks like Eric on True Blood? I just watched that tonight, so it's my fantasy night about Eric. Hey, and where's my apple cake?

I haven't seen True Blood yet but I'll take your word for it that he is a hunk. The apple cake is being snarfed down at record speed. It's the kind of cake you can eat a lot of and not feel sick because it's not too sweet.

OK, I think a recipe is now called for, Lee. The apple cake is sounding mighty delicious.

Kathy, I can send it to you. I'm hesitant to post it without the author's permission. She kindly let me post her chocolate cake recipe here earlier this year from her book The Joy of Vegan Baking: The Compassionate Cooks' Recipes for Sweets and Traditional Treats. She might think I'm a baking stalker if I try and post another. :-)

Geez, if only I had stayed up late enough to have read about our Fantasy Reading Camp! I might have had some very pleasant dreams.....

My assignment today is to find and print a couple of photos of cute guys for my daughter's dorm room. Her roomie brought a picture of Jacob (the werewolf from Twilight), so now I (an oldster) have to find something to compete with him for her side of the room! So, I'm off to google and print!

Have a yummy day everyone! Good morning comfy buddy! :)

Wow, you have really put a lot of thought into this! Kathy, your reading camp would make you millions...people would book their stay for years in advance. We should start finding investors....

That's too funny! My daughter went to see Eclipse again last night with a girlfriend. I think she likes Edward better.

message 3261: by [deleted user] (new)

It's a running "feud" between the two, since my daughter is not a Twilight fan. It's hard to find a live actor she likes, because she is so into anime!

message 3262: by [deleted user] (new)

You should get a picture of Edward but then replace his face with an anime guy.

Ooooh, with the sparkly chest! That could be fun! I'll have to work on that one. Great idea.

Take a picture of what you come up with! I wanna see! You can get cheap posters almost anywhere of those guys.

message 3265: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Jeannette, I want to see what you come up with, too. Interesting assignment. What we mothers do for our darlings. Oh, Jeannette, you can be a charter member of the Fantasy Reading Camp, along with all the comfies here. Christine, maybe I've finally realized a way to use reading to make me rich. LOL! Lee, you didn't OD on your apple cake, did you?

Um, *hanging head in shame*, I'm actually having it for breakfast and feeling like I shouldn't LOL! I'm justifying my choice by telling myself the cake tastes like apple cinnamon muffins.

I baked a rhubarb custard desert on Saturday, and I let my husband take the last piece to work in his lunch. I am lusting after it right now..... :(

LOL! I remember on the Bill Cosby Show in one of the episodes, Bill was going to give the kids chocolate cake or the like for breakfast and defended it by saying it had eggs in it.

Well, you are just too generous, Jeannette. What a good wife! I'm sure that you husband appreciates the sacrifice (not really, but I want you to feel good about it -- lol).

Having my Internet this morning has been great, but I did get more done yesterday when it wasn't available. Oh well, it's a reward for my hard work, right? (justifying my laziness today)

Mmmm, I love custardy desserts. I think that's next on the baking agenda. My friend Merry always tells me to eat my treats in the morning so I can work them off during the day. I like that strategy and it means I get to indulge myself early in the morning!

Christine, you can't go to heaven and come back without something.

message 3276: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks Anyhow, what is the difference between eating a piece of cake in the morning (especially a home made one) and eating toast spread with jam or Nutella? In fact, depending what kind of flour and sugar one has used, the cake might in fact be healthier, and certainly healthier than a breakfast of fried eggs, hash browns and other greasy trimmings.

Well, of course, in the best of all worlds, we could have the greasy breakfast followed by cake. LOL!

Hey guys, I just asked Mary to add Major Pettigrew to the Listopia list "favorite comfort reads" I created months and months ago because it needs updating. If anyone has any recent books they'd like to see on the list go and add them or vote. I also added the Lisa Lutz books but they are at the end of a long list so you have to go to the end to find them. Here's the list!

Mary, thanks for adding it along with the Sarah Addison Allen books. They're wonderful comfort reads. Major Pettigrew has been mentioned so many times here lately I thought we should update that list. I hope others will go and vote or add their faves too.

In Germany, there are a lot of candies by the makers of Nutella which have the Nutella filling right in them, absolutely decadent. I'm actually glad that I have not been able to find most of them even in local German delis, because my waistline would explode.

message 3292: by [deleted user] (new)

Ooh, we can get lots of candy from Ferrero here, even in Iowa! We love Rocher and Kuesschen (called Mon Cheri in the US)! There are a few new variants, too. The one thing my mother-in-law sends every year are Mon Cheri, the chocolate covered cherries in liqueur! They don't import them to the US. We always get Hanuta, those wafer cookies, when we visit Germany, too.

message 3293: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks Hanuta would be my downfall if they were available in Canada, and Duplo. I can resist Rocher and Küsschen, but Hanuta, not very likely. Ferrero also makes a wonderful yoghurt filled chocolate that I love (and that, thankfully, is not readily available in Canada yet).

My favroite, after Mon Cheri, is Yoghurette! I love those little chocolate-covered strawberry sticks (poor description, I know)

That picture makes me want some. I've never been able to find them in Canada, too bad (or, as I have already said, maybe not).

message 3296: by [deleted user] (new)

They don't appear to be distributed in N. America. If you really want some, I can get you some for Christmas. Think it over and send me a message. My mother-in-law will send me some, and I could mail a package (or 3) to you. One or two packages sets me up for a year -- just a quick taste! :)

Thanks, Jeannette, I will think that over, it's very kind of you. The last time I was in Germany, I bought about ten packages at the airport (along with a pile of crossword puzzle books, helps my vocabulary), and I ate two packages in less than an hour (that's a problem, ha).

message 3298: by Lisa (last edited Jul 12, 2010 04:14PM) (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Lee, I noticed with voting on LIstopia, you don't have to scroll down. You can key in title or title & author and if the books are on the list they show up right below the search box with vote buttons. I was able to vote on the first 3 Spellman/Lutz books that way and had to manually enter only the 4th book: The Spellmans Strike Again.

message 3299: by [deleted user] (new)

I understand, Gundula! I have to hide them from my husband, too. He hasn't quite got the "savor them" part down yet. I will ask my mother-in-law, closer to Christmas, to send as many as you like (they are not very heavy) and I will forward them to you. Just send me a message with your address and quantity. I know what it is to miss something like that. There is a ginger ale, made in Detroit, called Vernor's. I really missed it in Germany, where I was reduced to drinking Schwepp's! :p

Thanks, yeah, eating what you like too fast is a real problem for me, and totally silly, because when the stuff's gone, it's gone. You know there are a few things I do miss about Germany (even though I could not imagine living there again, just too crowded) and most of it is book or food related. One thing I really like by Schweppes, is "Bitter Lemon" (I've only ever found it in a British shop in Waterloo, and it was so old it was flat, yuck). I'll send you a message in a few days. How's your day going? You must be missing your daughter, I hope she's having fun a writing camp.
