Mary, it was. It's probably good that I live an hour away from the granddaughters, or I might want to show up on my daughter's doorstep everyday.

Ditto. It has been so uncomfortable here.

Hi girls! I'm not going to try to catch up on the posts. Just stopped by to say hello.

Have a great weekend. Hope it cools off for everyone, especially me!!

Hello Hayes! Nice to see you again! It has been tolerable here in Iowa, but I saw that the Plains states in N. America could expect cooler than normal temps this summer. I actually opened the windows and turned off the blasted A/C.

One more day of laundry to get my "camper" ready! Have a great day everyone!

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments Good Morning All :)

I recently read that USPS may raise postage $.02 to $.46 in January along with cutting mail delivery to 5-days-a-week. This all comes about as a result of large losses.

Also, on Oprah today(I only watch her when the topic interests me), she is supposed to have John Wayne Gacy' sister and Jim Jones' son on. I have a fascination with the TRUE CRIME genre so I'm going to program my DVR.

message 3210: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Mona!

I wish the post office would raise their rates by 16 cents (or more), and get it over with. We have really cheap postage rates as it is. Try posting a letter in Europe! :)

Have fun with Oprah. I am too much of a softie to watch that type of show.

message 3211: by Mona (last edited Jul 09, 2010 08:42AM) (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments Jeannette: I am more bummed by the 5-day-a-week delivery. I don't mail a lot of stuff but I get a lot of mail.

As an aside, hubby says, In India, there is no yearly registration of your car/motorcycle. You just pay everything upfront when you purchase it. I like that system unless, of course, your vehicle is totalled within the first year. Of course, if you pay in advance, you are hoping that your car lasts that long. There's no refund if it doesn't.

In Wisconsin, the emission tests used to be every year and then they changed it to every other year. I wish the Dept. of Motor Vehicles would offer the option of multi-year registration and the further in advance you pay, the cheaper it is.

message 3212: by Lisa (last edited Jul 09, 2010 10:18AM) (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Yes, I'm sick of these tiny postage increases too. I've always thought the cost should be on the fives or tens and each time they should raise it at least 5 or 10 cents. I love stamp designs but for the sake of convenience I might go exclusively for the forever stamps.

message 3213: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Hello everyone! The postage stamp talk reminds me that I need to mail some things today. I don't mail much anymore since I started paying my bills through online banking. I do like walking out to get the mail everyday for some reason, our box is across the road, rural delivery even though we live on the outskirts of town. I think I will miss Saturday delivery.

I'm trying to get motivated to do something productive today. I got caught up last night in a Nanny TV show marathon of some sort and ended up staying up until 2:30 watching The Nanny reruns. I love that show and couldn't stop watching, as one came on right after another. Paying the price for that late night today. LOL! Is it wrong to still have my pajama top on? At least I changed into shorts on my bottom half to take the dog out earlier.

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments Kathy, I wear pj's all day at home. After I shower, I just change into new ones. They're the most comfortable item of clothing IMHO. I have tons of them. Whenever I go to the thrift store, I make a beeline for that section.

Hubby never used to wear pj's during the day and now he does it too. It's so funny how you tend to pick up each other's habits.

I've seen people shopping in sleep pants & t's.

About TV marathons, I can relate. Whenever we get the seasons of our favorite shows on DVD from the library, we can't stop watching. It's always "just one more" or "we'll stop at X-o-clock."

message 3215: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Mona, you're my kind of gal. You've given me a great idea, to look at the thrift store for pj's. I looked at some at Kohl's today, but I decided that they were too high, even on sale. I'm a cheapskate where pj's are concerned, so I will check out the Goodwill for some.

message 3216: by Mona (last edited Jul 09, 2010 06:21PM) (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments Kathy, at Goodwill, they're only about $3(and 1/2 off on color-coded tag sale days). Sometimes you'll even find brand new ones with the store tags for about $5(again 1/2 off...). Sometimes, if I like them enough,I'll buy them at "full price" without waiting for the tag sale.

Does your Goodwill have sale days? All the Goodwills are different. The stores in Wisconsin I used to visit did.

PJ prices at Kohl's and even Walmart are too high even on sale.

Thrift stores are great for kids stuff too(clothes/shoes/toys). And books--who can forget books?

I love browsing in thrift stores. I've gotten a lot of good stuff from there some brand new or barely used.

Good morning (afternoon?) comfies! I have been under the weather so I don't think I even checked in yesterday. I ended up reading most of the day. I finished Still Alice (Wow!).

We shouldn't because no one would use it to search groups, but it could be one of our keywords. :-D

Can you do a sideways high five while hopping on your left foot? If not then I'll have to rework that part of it.

Could you define sideways?

message 3227: by [deleted user] (new)

Slap the back of your hands in a horizontal type high five (I think it would be good to follow this with the handshake-into-shotgun move)...the footwork is quite simple and requires two minor hops and a buffalo step type of finish. Sound good?

message 3228: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 10, 2010 03:44PM) (new)

I changed my post -- it was too lame..... :( I need to get my funny bone back today!

message 3229: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Mona, our Goodwill marks items down after so many days, not sure how many. I've found some great items at Goodwill. A few favorites are a small round, very heavy wood table, a bookshelf (again, good actual wood), and a picture of a girl surrounded by fairies (it's rather a famous painting, will have to look it up again). It's my go-to place when my son needs something cheap, yet sturdy for his apartment.

Are we hatching a secret handshake or other type of movement? My daughter told me today that if a woman does jumping jacks for just one minute each day, it will help with her bone density/calcium issue. I think I might be able to handle a minute's worth of jumping jacks.

Jeannette, don't miss your daughter too much. Do lots of good reading to keep yourself busy. Three weeks passes so quickly anymore. I want to go to reading camp for three weeks. LOL!

message 3230: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay, Kathy, I'll try doing jumping jacks everyday for the next 3 weeks. Or, better yet, I'll go to the Goodwill store, instead! :p

Good morning everyone. Move-in day at the dorms and it's raining. Could be worse......

Have a fun day! :)

Kathy: The Goodwill I used to go to in WI would rotate tag colors so you could kind of predict the pattern. Both branches of the store would have the same tag color on sale every week.

Unfortunately, I don't get to the thrift stores as often as I used to. They are not as conveniently located here. But whenever we visit my parents, I always make a stop at my favorite ones.

I'm in for book camp! Sounds divine except after having spent the busiest weekend ever away from home, I never want to leave again. I just want to snuggle up with a stack of good books, a cup of tea and a piece of cake.

I love thrift stores too and that reminds me that a new Goodwill just opened not to far from here so I must go and check their stock of books! Woohoo!

message 3237: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay, let's plan a virtual book camp (like I have to convince any of you to read!) with a field trip to the Goodwill Store! Your choice of refreshments at the end of the day, around the campfire -- sing-along is optional!

I got the kid off to camp and the teacher is a gem! They will produce a story each week, so I think it will be a great experience for her! I will post the blog, if they make it public! :)

It's not scary. The bad guys are goofy and comical. Their "bad guy" stuff is stealing stuff, like shrink rays. I would say that it is also not violent. Even when someone gets hurt it's like a bugs bunny cartoon where they emerge out of it covered with soot. The most upsetting thing is when the bad guy pops a kid's balloon.

ETA: The bad guy main character is actually pretty lovable pretty fast.

Young teacher (compared to me), very enthusiastic! They will be reviewing each other's works, and they will build a big "idea wall" in the classroom, where they will just post things as it comes up. My daughter will get to contribute her drawings, to the anthology.

My husband always wishes that he could go, too! :)

Christine, the balloon incident is what we saw on the commercial and made me think it would be too mean/violent for her but if that's the worst of it, we've already seen it. Thanks for the feedback.

Okay great, I feel better about possibly taking her. I didn't really want to expose her to unnessary violence or meanness at this age. If it's more comical we might go for it.

Wendy (literaryfeline) It's been such a nice weekend. I hate for it to end! Hubby and I went to see The Karate Kid yesterday. I was surprised at how much I liked it. I could see Will Smith in Jayden--he's going to be a heart breaker someday.

I hadn't heard about the postage going up, but I did know the USPS was considering cutting back on delivery days. I'd hate for them to cut Saturdays because so many people can only make it in on those days. :-(

Count me in for the reading camp! That sounds like a great idea. :-)

I hope you are all having a great weekend and enjoy the week!
