I went nuts with organizing yesterday, and I redid my entire office area. Wow, what a difference.

You go girl! Keep me inspired! :P

Jeannette,
It was one of those things where I was only intending to dust. The next thing I knew I was moving furniture, packing up boxes, washing the couch covers...but it looks so nice in here now.

If either of you lack for more to do, feel free to drop in over here.

Lisa,
Are there any cupcakes in it for me?

message 3156: by [deleted user] (new)

Just stopped by to say hi to everyone. Hot as the blazes here and the bathroom is still not finished... the tiler ran into some trouble today as well... hope they get everything worked out by tomorrow.

Good luck, Hayes! Europe is having another heat wave. :(

Professionally made vegan cupcakes. They're very good. Better than any I could make. Way too dangerously good, actually.
;-)

I clean for cupcakes! :)

You probably won't travel though. :-(

message 3161: by [deleted user] (new)

It always depends on how desperate I am for a cupcake.

Here comes the scary weather again. I'm putting on my ruby slippers and getting ready to head to Oz.

message 3162: by [deleted user] (new)

Maybe it will blow you west to Lisa's house. :)

message 3163: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) I wish. Dozens & dozens & dozens & dozens of cupcakes still wouldn't be payment enough to clean up this place. If I were were an artist, I'd create things with the dust. ;-)

One's already been started. I'm not sure how much good it will do, but we can hope!

I think you should try to make the petition more far-reaching, canvass more areas and cities/towns in California than just your own areas. The more people sign, and the more support from other areas of the state, the more likely there will be some attention paid by officials.

Where did these dogs originally come from anyway? Are most of them abandoned pets (which would be horrible), or have they been living in the wild for such a long time now that they are seen as wildlife by some (which they are not)? I know it's always a bit of a problem of defining "feral." Technically, all mustangs, all wild horses are feral as well, but I don't think they are as much a safety concern as feral domestic dogs (and horses used to be indigenous to North America before they were perhaps hunted to extinction by early man). But, mostly, horses do not generally attack humans, and feral dogs have a tendency to do so, especially since they no longer possess the natural fear of humans which other canids have. A difficult situation, but safety should always come first, especially with regard to non indigenous animals.

I think most are abandoned or have run away from home and they've been on their own so long that they forget how to act around humans.

Good morning everyone! I've been debating less weighty issues this morning: movie adaptations.

It looks like Christine has joined Kathy's club today, and Hayes and Lisa are struggling with dust. :)

Have a good one today!

message 3169: by [deleted user] (new)

I wish! I was up at 5:30 as usual, but didn't get a chance to say hi. I was also up late late late finishing my book. I'm so sleepy that I'm bumping into stuff. And I have bookclub tonight.

message 3170: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh! It's my turn to pick the next selection for bookclub, and I need to decide by tonight. Ideas? Ideas? I'm gonna' panic!

message 3171: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Wow, Christine and Jeannette, very impressive cleaning and organizing going on there! Yeah, I know that 7:45 isn't really all that early, but I was in a stay-up-late-at-night and get-up-late-the-next-day pattern before this week. If I am completely honest, I actually like getting up earlier and getting more done during the day. Oh, I think I missed the getting more done part of that. LOL! Oh, and where are all those cupcakes I'm reading about? Hayes, it's blazing hot here, too. Weatherman says we can expect a few more days of this high 90's before any relief.

Maude | 479 comments Christine, I didn't see Mary's post before but I loved City of Thieves and I would second her recommendation.

message 3176: by [deleted user] (new)

Yep, we need more details here, Christine. ;)

Kathy, I like getting up earlier, too. I get more guilt-free internet time that way. For a while I used to sleep in and let hubby head off on his own, but I didn't see much of him that way. So, he gets up and gets ready and then I do. (Well, probably more than anyone wanted to hear about my life, I suppose.)

Okay, I will look this one up now. I also had as possibilities in my little head...Major Pettigrew's Last Stand or Still Alice. Keep suggesting please! I have to decide before 7:00.

We have tended to pick contemporary fiction, but we read a memoir once. There really aren't any rules about what book we pick. People also seem willing to get newer books without a problem. No science fiction though...that's just my gut feeling.

message 3178: by Maude (new)

Maude | 479 comments Christine, All three of those books look very interesting. Could you discuss with the Book Club and have them vote on which one they want?

I just got a very nice email from him, and he told me that he has signed on to write 2 more already. He gave me the title of the third book...let me go check the message.

ETA: He said, " Vish Puri 3 is going to be called 'The Case of the Deadly Butter Chicken'."

LOL, Jeannette, I think that's what I like about getting up earlier, too--time on the computer pluse time to do other things and not just the computer.

I actually rearranged some bookshelves today, and pulled a bunch of grade school books that I won't be needing for a while! I can see the shelves! :)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments I just got back a short bit ago from spending time with my daughter and granddaughters today. I got to keep the baby while my daughter took the older one swimming (you would think swimming team was enough, but it's not, lol). Rocking that baby to sleep is just like holding an angel in my arms. Ahhhhhhhhh, so nice! And, I have the most fun conversations with the 9-yr.-old, like giving her the lowdown on werewolves and vampires, so she could decide which she wanted to be. Werewolves won, since they can function in the daytime and don't have to sleep in a coffin or underground during the day. I, also, stopped at Border's and took her the first Harry Potter book. Such fun! And to top it all off, I finally got to eat the the restaurant called The Cross-Eyed Crickett with my daughter, her husband, and the kids. Great homecooking! I had the chicken and dumplings, green beans, and carrots. Everything is from scratch. I held baby and fed her some carrots, too. The 9-yr.-old and I had way too much fun in the bathroom. I hit my head on the automatic towel dispenser and towels starting rolling out. We were two giggly girls!

Nothing like being goofy in the bathroom. Oh, I forgot to mention that at Border's I also bought The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo DVD that came out yesterday. I am going to save it and watch it this weekend.

Kathy, thanks for that lovely description of time with family. I can't wait to have grandchildren!

Good Morning! Rise & Shine! (Or, time for a cool drink, if you are in a later time zone!)

I'll be getting my daughter ready for "geek camp" today and tomorrow. She'll spend 3 weeks learning how to write science fiction. But, it isn't raining today, so all those jeans can dry outside.

Have a good one! :)

I wish there had been things like "geek camp" (well, not for math, but for writing etc.) when I was younger. I always got bored in the summer, and (oh, I know people will say, what, what, what) I actually missed some of the classes at school, but only some of them (like English, Latin, History, French)

message 3192: by [deleted user] (new)

Last year she had 3 weeks of chemistry. She would have taken physics this year, but the teacher has a conflict. This kids have a great time, too! :)

Well, maybe if I had gone to math, chemistry, or physics camp, I would not only have done better in those subjects at school, but ended up liking them better as well. But, I still would have preferred French Camp or History Camp.

message 3194: by [deleted user] (new)

I think my daughter would prefer drawing or Japanese or maybe even film studies. She hasn't read any sci-fi, but she wants to improve her writing. It should be interesting. Plus, it's three weeks in a dorm room with her best friend. And, no mom to tell her to clean her room! :)

We just got our power back this morning ...So a late good morning to all!

Book club was great. We discussed The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I chose Still Alice for our next book due to the interest of all of the group members.
