The Tiki room: dark, loud, bad jokes, singing birds and a tune you can't lose all day. They have added Iago from Aladdin and Zazu from Lion King, to make it even louder and more annoying. I don't care for "It's a Small World" either! xp

message 2252: by [deleted user] (new)

Kathy,
Very good to know. I need some time to just relax with these kids of mine after this last term of school work. Looking forward to it!

He did well, that's good. Just make sure not to get on his bad side now.

message 2254: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, I am sure he will not be a happy camper tonight. I asked about leaving him at the vet's, but she said he would be happier at home!

Or would the vet be happier with him at home? LOL!

message 2256: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, he'd be in a cage at the vet's office! lol He does not like the vet. He was hissing at the carrier this morning, even before we put him into it. :(

Morning greetings to everyone! Benjamin has his middle school "Transition Day" today which means he'll go there with a group for a tour and stay for lunch in the cafeteria. What else does this mean? It means that I'm either having an anxiety attack or a stroke, can't decide which, maybe it's a combo. Oh, and the coffee pot is not working...what up with that? Argh. Send cupcakes.

message 2258: by Paula (new)

Paula | 184 comments Oh, no! The coffee pot isn't working?? That's something that could prompt hysterics in my house! And just remember to keep breathing today :) Good luck to Benjamin!

message 2259: by [deleted user] (new)

Good luck, BJ!! Have fun meeting new friends and don't worry about that quivering mass that looks like your mom! We'll take care of her while you're gone!

I'll start baking the cupcakes -- Paula, you put the coffee pot on! :)

Well, that should fix almost anything that ails you -- at least for a little while! lol

p.s. to Paula. You can increase the width of the picture in the parameter list. I had to edit the cupcake 3 times to get it to just the perfect "jumbo" size! :)

message 2263: by Paula (new)

Paula | 184 comments Ha! You read my mind! I edited it a few times, but any bigger and the image gets pixilated :)

message 2264: by [deleted user] (new)

Just change the number after width= without changing height= You could probably even reduce height by 10. I was hoping you wouldn't mind my tip. :)

message 2265: by Paula (new)

Paula | 184 comments Ok, that crashed my work computer :) hehehe, oops! Perhaps I made it too big!

And definitely didn't mind the tip! Those are always welcome.

message 2266: by [deleted user] (new)

Now that's a cup of coffee worthy of my cupcake!

That's what I call fine living! :)

message 2267: by [deleted user] (new)

Wake up all you sleepies! We're having a cupcake party without you....

Have a great day Paula (at work!). Keep us posted Christine. xoxoxo

message 2268: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Wow, cupcakes and lattes (?)! Enjoy, Christine and keep a vision of Benjamin having a great day in your mind! Oh, and definitely get a new coffee pot if yours can't be repaired. I got to have my coffee. Great pics Paula and Jeannette!

I dropped him off for the bus ride about a half hour ago. He met Joe. Joe is like another BJ. Joe said, "Hey, I'm Joe", and BJ said, "Hey, I'm BJ", and they both said, "cool" at exactly the same time, and now they are apparently BFFs. Eric is also going today. We've known Eric for over a year now. Thank the Lord for Eric. He is also like another BJ, and apparently like another Joe. He is also his BFF. So that makes three. So there are three of these little BJ-people touring the middle school as we speak. My guess is that the word "cool" is being heard frequently by anyone who observes these three BFFs. I am babbling because I am in the middle of my stroke.

message 2270: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Christine, it sounds like BG has it all figured out and is off to a fun day. Now, go fix yourself a nice, soothing bath and read for a bit. You deserve it.

Oh, Christine, you are making me laugh! Please remind me of this next year when I will be having my stroke.

I hope you enjoy the cupcake and latte before Kathy eats it. :) (You did see the cupcake and latte, didn't you? It is a few posts back now....)

message 2273: by [deleted user] (new)

I did indeed. I was kinda' hoping for something in my mailbox, but I'll take the virtual. :)

message 2274: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, it may take a few days and a few bucks to get that big cupcake to you!! lol Plus, that UPS guy isn't trustworthy.

Hi everyone,

I've been AWOL for a few days. I've been working out at the gym like a maniac every day in-between all the usual family stuff. Yesterday I managed to cut the tip of my thumb almost off so I've gotten out of dish duty for a few days, yay!

I don't drink coffee but the photo of that latte was almost enough to make me into a convert! Yum.

message 2276: by [deleted user] (new)

Ow! I'm glad you're okay, Lee! Not a great way to get out of dish duty.

I am baking a rhubarb tart, and I had to pre-bake the crust. After pouring in the filling, I picked the dish up, bare-handed, forgetting that it had been in a 350 oven for 15 minutes. Thank goodness Pyrex is hard to break!

Ow! Ow! Are you okay?

message 2278: by [deleted user] (new)

Probably feeling better than you are. Cold water did the trick. :)

message 2279: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Lee and Jeannette, Ouch! Lee, That's horrible. Not worth getting off dish duty for, in my opinion.

message 2280: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Lee, my theory is that all that working out has you distracted, and that's why you cut your thumb. That's why I don't work out. I'm already clumsy enough. LOL! Seriously, play it for all its worth with the dish duty excuse. I think I either sprung or broke my little finger a couple of weeks ago. It still hurts bad, and I'm still taking Motrin for it. I'm pigheaded about going to the doctor for it, as all he will do is tell me to take something for the pain and possibly splint it, which I am already doing. Jeannette, it's good you are concerned about the appropriate thing here, the safety of the pie. LOL! Hope you didn't burn yourself too badly. Oh, and I did have a latte today. Anyone else trying to disable themselves with falling, cutting, or burning?

message 2281: by [deleted user] (new)

Ouch! Get that finger looked at Kathy!

I must have been burning my fingertips for years now, because it didn't hurt for very long. If I had touched my arm to the pan, I would have a blister. I feel sorry for you and Lee. :(

message 2282: by Paula (new)

Paula | 184 comments Oh my, ladies! I am pretty clutzy generally (I've convinced myself it's part of my charm :) but have not actually wounded myself today. I'm on a new schedule for work so woke up 2 hrs earlier than normal, which had clearly negatively impacted my motor skills by 6pm.

Lee, Jeannette - hope you two heal quickly and are not in pain!!

Christine, so glad to hear about Benjamin. I'm always impressed by how quickly kids make friends.

message 2283: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey, Christine! I hope you are recovered from your stroke. Drop us a quick line before you head off to Disney! If we don't hear from you -- have a GREAT time on the beach! Remember: stay away from the singing birds!! :)

message 2284: by [deleted user] (last edited May 20, 2010 05:44AM) (new)

Jeannette and Lee, Please stay away from sharp objects and heated appliances while I am gone! You've both got me worried.

I have my Kindle loaded and organized. Clothes aren't packed, nothing else is really ready...but I have my reading all set. Priorities, that's what I'm about. I have to drive Dixie to grandma's today, and I'm feeling so sad. Gonna' miss my pup!

I'll drop in later today to say goodbye. :)

message 2285: by Paula (new)

Paula | 184 comments Ha! 'Kindle loaded and organized' - yup, you've got your priorities in the right place, for sure! Hope you have a great trip!!

message 2286: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks, Paula! I really should get off of goodreads and put stuff in suitcases.

message 2287: by [deleted user] (new)

I just took the dog to the kennel -- he loves it there! They are having a grad party/birthday party, but took my dog anyway. He was one of their first lodgers. I spent the rest of the morning shopping and still don't have anything to wear this weekend. I never was good at shopping. :(

I hope you put some happy books on the Kindle, Christine. Mom sniffling under the beach umbrella just is bad form! Have a blast!

How did BJ's day turn out: cool? ;-)

message 2288: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello Hayes! Are you doing something fun without us? :)

message 2289: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Christine, you definitely do have your priorities in order. Planning your reading is paramount to a successful trip. You and your family have a great time on vacation!

Jeannette, when do you leave for your trip?

I am planning a trip out to Kansas to see hubby later in June, but I would also like to go somewhere with some of my gal pals. Working on that.

message 2290: by [deleted user] (new)

We leave tomorrow morning for Oklahoma. My niece is graduating Saturday from high school. Next year is our turn.

Why is your husband in Kansas? Are you in Kentucky? How often do you see your husband?

message 2291: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Oh, OK, Jeannette. I guess you go overseas in June. Have a good time on your trip to Oklahoma (I'm now singing the song from the musical, probably won't be able to get that out of my head for a while).

My husband is a LTC in the Army, stationed at Ft. Leavenworth, KS. He's actually involved in working on the new Army Wikipedia that they are developing. That's what he went to D.C. about when I joined him there last month. He's been doing active duty for about 8 years now. First he was at the Pentagon for 2 1/2 years, then Central Command in Tampa (from where he went to Afghanistan for 5 months, Quatar a couple of times, and even Albania once) for a few years, and now he's in Kansas. We used to have a TV-Appliance-Furniture business and he was in the Army Reserves for 20 some years. After closing that business (in business since the 50's), he taught Army classes and then was activated to go to D.C. Our youngest was just starting high school, so I stayed behind with him. Since he's been moving around, we just decided to maintain two households with lots of visits (used to be longer intervals, but now it's once a month). Now that I have grandchildren, I doubt I will ever be convinced to move (well, depends on where it is). He plans on staying in a couple of more years at least. It works for us, so it's all good. Wow, I think I just told you more than you probably wanted to know. Oops.

message 2292: by [deleted user] (new)

This is the chat thread, and I was curious to know! I guess being in the military prepares you for being apart. We'll wave as we drive by!

side note: Have you seen Hugh Jackman in Oklahoma? He sure can sing and he looks good, too! :)

message 2293: by Paula (new)

Paula | 184 comments That's actually really interesting, Kathy. It's not often you hear of couples who are ok with the distance and still make it work. That takes a lot of independence and commitment! I love stories like that :)

note to self - check out Hugh Jackman's Oklahoma stint...

Oh ouch, hope both of you are alright. I've managed stunts like this before (actually quite adept at getting kitchen injuries), so I know what injuries like this feel like.

Paula, I do think it helps that we both are independent and don't mind living alone. It also helps that the kids were older when this separation happened. With younger kids, it would have been a lot harder on everyone. The job market around here is dismal, so I'm just grateful that he has a great job that he likes so much. And, he is smart enough not to tell me how to start doing things when he comes in. LOL!

Hugh Jackman is in Oklahoma? Cool!

message 2298: by [deleted user] (new)

Kathy, I imagine being apart is not ever easy, but it would be very difficult with young children. If my husband had to do this, I would have to learn how to do things again, like killing spiders! I'm glad it works for you -- I hope he can retire soon. You're hogging the grandkids!

message 2299: by [deleted user] (new)

Here's a link to Oklahoma. The soundtrack is lots of fun, too!

Oklahoma!
