Wild pigs are scary, or can be . I'm glad your husband had a good aim, the boar probably is still wondering what it was all about.

I just saw you mention that we should move it to chat...yikes, sorry guys! I meant clothes and shoes. I'm not sure how much you plan to buy me. :)

He is nice, but annoying. And lacking common sense apparently.

It's the little things...like choosing the coldest windy day to remove holiday decorations, and therefore falling off his ladder, mowing grass during a storm, that kind of stuff.

message 2105: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments I don't think I can possibly catch up this morning, as late as I'm chiming in. However, I did find the conversation about wild animals charging very interesting. Last night I had a dream about a lion wandering around and finally charging, chomping down on my arm in the charge. Hmm, any dream analysts here? Jeannette, that is some picture and some story about the javelina. Oh, in my dream, there was a guy (not anyone that I knew) who was by me when the lion charged and didn't try to help. I was rather ticked off at him. Apparently, I lived because I remember that. It's a little fuzzy on how I got away from the lion. I've had dreams before about lions or tigers attacking me (no bears, oh my--LOL). What is interesting (well, to me, anyway) is that I greatly admire these two creatures.

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments Christine, I enjoy your posts about stalking the UPS guy.

Have you ever heard of a site called BOOKSWIM.COM? It's like the NETFLIX of books. If you decide you want to keep a book, they'll charge you the used price.

I think if you go with BOOKSWIM, your target will change to the mailman.

Great idea! I am going to check this out. I would pay to read a book before buying it, definitely!

Gundula wrote: "Wild pigs are scary, or can be."

I don't know how javelinas compare in size to European wild boar (like the kind Obelix loves, Hayes), but I know how nasty they can be! They have sharp tusks and tough hides. The rock made him stop -- he did not back away!

I watched a nature video that showed a javelina running a bobcat up a big cactus in the SW U.S. somewhere. The cat was not happy with the thorns on the cactus! That's how serious these pigs are.

message 2110: by [deleted user] (new)

Kathy, you must have sent me brain waves about animal attacks last night (or I sent them to you)! What a strange dream, being more annoyed with the useless guy than with having your arm chewed off! lol

Mona wrote:I think if you go with BOOKSWIM, your target will change to the mailman.

Oh, I love this idea! I have to look it up! Also, my mailman could handle being taken down a peg or two, ha!

message 2112: by [deleted user] (new)

I looked up Bookswim, and it is such a great concept! I have to look for some reviews of the service, but thank you for mentioning it. I've been using paperbackswap for years, but you can wait forever for things to come up there.

If it works like Netflix, then I am in trouble!

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments My mailman's got his hands full with my mail alone--I'm a magazine junkie. He's really lucky he doesn't have a walking route.

Also, I hear starting next year, Saturday mail delivery may be discontinued. Bad news for people like myself and NETFLIX/BLOCKBUSTER/BOOKSWIM... subscribers.

message 2115: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments I usually get my books from the library. I try to check the new collections and get in line while they are still on order. And, yes, it can take FOREVER to get the popular books. I also get many books from GOODWILL/library sales.

I have NO shortage of reading material and I'm always picking up more from the new books/shelving carts.

Yes, I think we had some telepathy going on there, Jeannette. At least mine weren't real attacks. Glad you made it through your real ones unscathed.

Well, it was 17 years ago, so I'm okay now! I thought the rhino charging me was pretty cool, too. He got lost once I posted the photo.

The problem with rhinos is that they are also very short sighted, so they might actually hit something even if they are not actually trying to, simply because they cannot see very well.

Any book recommendations to read over the Summer??

message 2127: by [deleted user] (new)

For the Summer....how about The Help The Help by Kathryn Stockett , Girl in Translation by Jean Kwok Girl in Translation, The Space Between Us: A Novel The Space Between Us A Novel by Thrity Umrigar ....I could go on, but I will spare you.

message 2128: by [deleted user] (new)

message 2130: by [deleted user] (new)

Good morning everyone! It is not raining at the moment! I was considering building a boat last night.

I've got to get serious about prepping for my Jane Austen book discussion next week. It's hard to get started because I know the book so well.

Have a great day! Are you still out there, Barb? :)

message 2131: by [deleted user] (new)

Good....morning? My gosh, it's still so dark here that I can't tell. We were up almost all night from a major storm, so I am a zombie. Except, I don't plan on eating people...that's a zombie thing, right? I'll be a chocolate eating zombie, yeah.

Anyway, have a good start. If you get online, type loudy to wake me up because I'll probably be asleep on the keyboard.

Zombies eat BRAINS (at least today's zombies do.) I could use some EXTRA BRAINS!! Let me know if you find some for me, OK???

message 2135: by [deleted user] (new)

ewwwwww.....I so don't want to be a zombie then. I'll have to think of some other creature.

So, what's the deal with Twitter? Do many of you have an account? I've been avoiding checking it out because I'm afraid I'll get sucked into reading more stuff on the computer that I don't need. Is it really fun? A timewaster? Should I stay away? I want to hear it all!

message 2137: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't get it either, Lee. I'm ready to hear it all too. :)

message 2138: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't tweet on Twitter. I spend enough time as it is on Goodreads. :)

message 2139: by Paula (new)

Paula | 184 comments Good morning! We are just about flooded here, too. Had to take a detour on my way to work due to flooding, and promptly got lost :)

I don't tweet. Not that I don't have an interest in new technology, I just can't think of anyone who I want to follow that closely, with the possible exception of Ross from 'Chelsey Lately.'

message 2140: by Lee, Mod Mama (new)

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
So do people mostly follow celebrities? Or are there other uses? Hopefully someone who tweets will tell us what all the fuss is about.

message 2141: by [deleted user] (new)

From what I understand, it is just a daily update stream that anybody can use. Celebrities or mere mortals post snippets of their day or anything else that is on their minds. It's like blogging but quicker, I think.

message 2142: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Lee, I belong to Twitter. BUT, I NEVER go there. Less than facebook. I've been in several times. I follow a lot of people, a few follow me. I follow Goodreads and lots of vegan celebrities, (and Ginny, Lee), and some news stations, some local sites, etc. etc. I don't find it dangerous because I don't find it compelling. I should go back in and check it though.

message 2143: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Christine, I bet you did have a rough night, what with your son and your doggie being afraid of storms. That's right isn't it? Aren't they both afraid of storms? It has looked like it's going to rain here all week, and we've escaped except for a light shower. I'm hoping it doesn't wait until Saturday when we are having the garage sale at my mother-in-law's, although she has made contingency plans.

I have a Twitter account, set it up a couple of months ago because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I haven't used it, though. I might check back in today and see what's going on with it. Like you, Jeannette, I spend too much time on Goodreads to do other stuff. Oh, I did become a follower of Neil Gaiman's tweeting, as he is always entertaining, very witty.

message 2144: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Oh yeah, I follow a couple of authors too. Perhaps Neil Gaiman; I don't remember. Lee, if you join let me know & we can follow one another. Since I never tweet, you'll never be bothered by me, but it would make it easy to find one another.

Lisa, don't you want to follow me? Sniff, sniff. I would follow you anywhere. LOL!

message 2146: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Sure Kathy. Send me an im. I'm just not at all interesting and I don't truly follow anyone because I never sign in. I'm about to sign off until about dinnertime my time but send me a pm and we can connect on Twitter. I have yet another name there, of course.

message 2147: by Lee, Mod Mama (new)

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
Okay, I might check it out. It's hard to imagine without actually going there and seeing what happens. I can't even picture what it looks like. Is it like the newsfeed here on GR?

Lisa, I would definitely follow Ginny. If there were useful things and educational info I might like it.

message 2148: by Paula (new)

Paula | 184 comments Is anyone else having a bad day? Is it just me, is it just the weather? I am all kinds of cranky, and am not sure why. Could be the weather, could be that I'm about to move into a job that I don't think I want, could be that I'm bored, could be... because it's a random Thursday. :)

message 2149: by [deleted user] (new)

I felt that way earlier this week, just kind of bleh. I think it's this crummy, cold, rainy spring.
