*feeling very old and out of it*

I've heard of these... but what are jello shots, exactly?

message 1952: by [deleted user] (new)

But... ew... I mean... does the Jello set? so it's jello-y or is it liquid and slimy...

Hayes, don't feel old. I've never done a shot of any kind!

Manybooks Amelia wrote: "Jello made with Alcohol. In a very small cup. Or just alcohol mixed with a bit of jello to flavor it."

I get it, we used to call it electric jello at university, tastes pretty awful and because you have to use really strong booze, the alcohol content is quite high.

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Wow, lots of catching up to do this morning and I only have a few minutes to do so. I have a hair appointment and facial in a little over an hour, going to get beautiful. LOL! If only. I don't have too much stress right now, just thinking of my son and his finals at college, actually trying not to think of it.

Lee, my daughter and I were just on the phone talking about this very thing with girls. My granddaughter, who is 9, thinks this one girl (who is really a bully and not nice) is great and wants to be friends with her. The girl will one day act like she wants to be friends and then the next day tell my granddaughter that she doesn't want to be friends with her. Arghhhhhhhhh! I just finished a book about a teen who had been bullied from elementary school on, and it's amazing how mean girls can be, and at such young ages. Yikes! I wish our kids (and grandkids) could avoid these mean girls, but it seems they are in every school.

Wendy, before I started reading the new Sookie, I reviewed the one from last year, Dead and Gone, to bring me up to speed. It seems I have to do that more and more these days. I did start the book, though, and I think it's going to be another good one. Eric is producing some steamy scenes (actually reread some of the steamy scenes from last year's book, which were quite yummy).

Christine, I will be thinking of you in your stressful time about the IEP meeting. It has to be so hard to go through that as the parent. You are doing a great service for your child, though. I hope some good things come out of it for your son.

Mary, I haven't had the jello shots, but I do remember (although hazy in spots) having some shots in Key West a few years back, which led to an early evening in bed (alone, get your minds out of the gutter, ladies--LOL).

So, everyone have a good day, today. I'm off to get ready to get beautiful, or at least to make sure the gray is covered.

I'm back and survived the dentist quite well. She is a younger woman (near 30) and really nice. I make them tilt my head up (I hate these new dental chairs) and I don't react well to the shots, so they give me the old kind and I needed 2! And I am very cold sensitive. *blahblahblah* You would think I was having an amputation with whiskey and a stick to chomp down on! lol I just can't deal with the dentist anymore!

Hayes, I feel for you! Root canals are the worst!

Literary Feline -- find a new dentist!! (I've had 4 in the last 9 years.)

Good luck, Gundula! I have had the same thing done while I was living in Germany!

Okay, end of dentist story! (I ate a donut as a reward!)

I really did miss you, Christine! I wish I could send you a virtual cupcake and a hug to get you through today (and tomorrow)! It must be hard for you and Benjamin to go through these things administered by people who are "just doing their job" and can't really know you or your son. I hope they hook you up with some caring people afterward! xoxo

message 1958: by [deleted user] (last edited May 05, 2010 09:24AM) (new)

Everyone else: shots at Hayes house tonight! (Are you at home entertaining tonight, Hayes?) Lee, Lisa and I will skip the gelatin (made from animals)! I probably should skip the shots, too, cuz they make me even sillier than I usually am!

Kathy, you can't look much more beautiful than you do now! How lovely to have a day at the beauty spa. :) Think happier thoughts everyone! Give your daughter an extra hug from me, Lee!

message 1959: by [deleted user] (new)

No, no jello shots for me either... dis-gusting! I have never liked alcohol with sweet things, like daiquiris or pina coladas.

Glad the dentist was okay Jeannette. I can always feel everything even with the shots. I've got really deep nerves or something. I always wanted to try the gas, but never knew a dentist who would use it!

Christine, good luck tomorrow. I bet it must be stressful and I don't envy you.

And I think I'll go to the beauty spa too... while Kathy is cleaning out my closets!

Have been enjoying the late afternoon sun on the kitchen balcony with my red flowers which have finally started to bloom. What peace! My son and his piano teacher are playing in the back ground, the birds are chirping, it's warm but not too warm and I finished my book. Nothing better!

message 1960: by [deleted user] (new)

I had laughing gas once for a root canal. Gets you pretty high -- things still hurt but you don't "quite" care. This was way back in 1972. I guess they stopped using it.

Beautiful image in my mind of your home now, Hayes. :)

message 1961: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. And I have never actually done (and don't plan to do) jello shots, that was just me making a funny.

Leaky, I am glad that you survived the dentist! And what you said was too sweet...you're such a great friend. I'll take that virtual cupcake! :)

Okay, Hayes, how about cupcakes and tea on your sun-filled balcony? (I'm too old for shots now, anyway!)

Don't over do the image... the balcony is tiny. Room enough for a few flower pots, the camping lounge chair, and me, sideways. But it's nice anyway!

I lived in a small apartment in Germany for a while. I always loved the way people would decorate their little bit of space, with potted plants and lace on the windows. I can't get the feeling in this over-sized rectangular house that I live in! Of course, it is nice to have the space, too, where I live now. :)

Jeannette, I'm glad you came away from the dentist without any major mishaps. You survived! Yay!

Hayes, thank you for painting such a beautiful picture to take with me to the gym. I will try my best to be a calm, centred mama and not glare at anyone!

Have a great afternoon everyone!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments Yeah, girls "that age" can be exceptionally mean. I went to school with several who specialized in psychological warfare.

I always go with laughing gas as an anesthetic, if it's an option. (My dentist says I respond really well to it, and the stuff they you inject in your jaw, not so much.)

I think I'll go with the cupcakes - If I'm going to be naughty, better with those than booze!

message 1969: by [deleted user] (new)

All my worst memories of high school are from gym class and the girls who made it miserable for me. :(

message 1970: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks I would certainly not want to go back to high school, and, I think it's even worse now, with all that bullying on the internet, we, at least did not have to face that.

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments All this talk of sun-filled balconies and plants and tea and cupcakes makes me want to get my screened in porch cleaned up this week. It's due a cleaning, as dust and pollen and the sort gets in, and the floor is especially dusty. Then I can set out there, have some shots, and believe (after multiple shots) that I am in Italy. LOL! I like your idea of actually having the shots in Italy, Jeannette. Glad you made it back from the dentist without encountering any problems. And, your sweet comment made me feel extra good today.

Hayes, how come I have to do the cleaning? I need to rectify the image I've created and return to being sloth-like. Christine, remember that we will all be thinking of you tomorrow.

message 1973: by [deleted user] (last edited May 05, 2010 02:03PM) (new)

LOL! You are right, Jeannette. I have to stop talking about cleaning. One would think my house is all in order, and that is so far from the truth. I vow to let the dust settle where it may.

message 1975: by [deleted user] (new)

That's a first step, Kathy. ;-) You are getting me inspired, if that helps. And I can use all the inspiration I can get!

Kathy wrote: "Hayes, how come I have to do the cleaning?"

Serious wishful thinking on my part LOL! I told you it was a modern take on the Tom Sawyer scam... you have to fob the job off onto someone else... while we get to drink, not shots, but a lovely Chianti (red) or a Greco di Tufo (white).

Just to let us know who's really in charge, however: It's raining again. *grrrr*

Kathy wrote: "I vow to let the dust settle where it may."

Don't forget Quentin Crisp who said that you shouldn't do any cleaning at all. The hard part is the first 4 years, after which no further dirt collects and life goes on in blissful status quo!

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments I am not feeling well today. Let's just say that multiple trips to the bathroom are involved. My daughter laughed this morning when I told her what was wrong and said, "Too much information, Mom." LOL! So, I plan on using my predicament as an excuse to not do much today. I'm actually not feeling horrible, rather tired from waking up early and getting to bed late. OK, enough about that. It is a beautiful day here, so that is something. I had to move lunch with friend to tomorrow, but that just gives me something to look forward to. Gee, I think I'm getting the hang of this Pollyanna game. Have a good one, ladies. Christine, let us know how the meeting went.

Sure, sure, I still remember what you told me yesterday about "better to be leaking out the one end and not the other!" I could says it's payback, but that would be cruel. I certainly do feel sorry for you! Get better so you can get back to cleaning! ;-)

[You must be on the mend, as you are in top form with your posts! lol:]

message 1987: by [deleted user] (new)

Good morning! I believe that I got 23 seconds of quality sleep because we had a very heavy storm, and both boy and dog were up the entire night talking and barking (you will have to guess which one did which).

The meeting yesterday was almost 3 hours. It was the expected bombardment of "here's what he can't do at the level of his peers", then a solid hour of planning a program. The skinny of it is that they have an extensive program for higher level autistic children at the middle school now. Against all of my anxiety about doing so, I think he would do well in the program. We're going to try it next year.

message 1988: by [deleted user] (new)

Good morning, Christine! It's a big step, I know, but be brave. I really, really hope it works well for Benjamin, and for you. Middle school is scary enough by itself! Try not to worry about it (easier said than done) until at least July! Otherwise, that's a lot of vodka until then! :)

I am trying not to think about my girl going off to college in August 2011! That's a whole lot of vodka, and I don't even like the stuff!

*hugs*

message 1989: by [deleted user] (new)

Good morning ladies! I hope the sun is shining where you are! I hope the headaches and other complaints have gone away! I'm going out to lunch with another homeschool family today. We've wrapped up another year in our group and the planning for next year has begun. Only one more year left for my daughter.

Have a great day! :)

message 1990: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't like vodka much either, but it sounds more to the point than "pass the shiraz". That's just too relaxed.

Christine, 3 hours? That's one long meeting, but it sounds like you came out of it with a good plan. With you as Benjamin's mom, I am sure he will continue to be a smart, happy child. You are certainly giving it your all, and that will pay off, I'm sure. Take it easy today and do something nice for yourself.
