I had a fun experience on Goodreads yesterday on the "What's the Name of That Book?" group. I popped over there and gave someone the name of a book they had been looking for the last 3 months. The funniest part: the person had just joined GR to find the book. They hadn't posted anywhere else on GR! What luck!

Wow, Jeannette... I'm impressed. I go over there every now and then. It's kind of like watching Jeopardy... Obscure Belizian Novels for 200 And just like on Jeopardy I can never answer any of the questions!

This was the thread title:

YA-3 British Children go to attic--Quests

It just happened to be one of my favorite series: The Dark Is Rising Sequence.

Lee found a book for me last month from some pretty pathetic "hints" from me. That is a fun group to peek in at. Some of the books sound pretty wild!

Good Morning Everyone! Today is the Anime convention in Minneapolis! Three days of Japanese cartoons, and people in costumes. It's gonna be fun!

I'll miss everyone. Hope you all enjoy the weekend, too! Don't get into any trouble without me! :)

I just found out that my mother (with Parkinsons) has a mrsa infection (skin type, covering the bottom of both legs) that is pretty bad. If anyone is a nurse or knows anything about this, could you pm me? What I am finding on the internet is not encouraging. Thank you. hugs.

Oh! The sun finally came out... doesn't look like it will last, however.

The husband and the son have gone off to purchase a clarinet, second hand. My son has decided that the clarinet is the thing he wants to play. (He's been playing the piano since he was 6 years old.) He's incredibly motivated musically, which makes me so envious. He can look at a piece of music and almost hear it play in his head. But I am NOT looking forward to the noise... sounds like a wild goose or swan honking. He'll start lessons on the 5th of May.

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments An afternoon hello to everyone. I got back from my trip to D.C. last night and will post more later. I just wanted to get back into the swing of things here. In looking over this page of postings, I'd like to say to Jeannette that I hope your daughter had a wonderful 16th birthday, such a milestone. Enjoy your convention. Christine, I hope your mother is doing better. Keep us apprised of her condition. It must be so hard for you to see her suffer. Hayes, you might want to invest in a good set of earplugs. LOL! I played the clarinet until 7th grade when I switched to the bassoon. Nice to have a musically gifted child. Barb, I, too, love that coffeepot.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments Raining here, with a touch of thunder and a scaredy-cat.

Going to Williamsburg in May!

message 1721: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome back, Kathy! Wow... the bassoon. My uncle played the bassoon! Great sound it makes.

Raining here too Susanna, but no thunder, fortunately.

message 1722: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Thanks, Hayes. It's cool that your uncle played the bassoon, too. I, also, think it has a great sound and wish I'd kept playing it. Did he play it as an adult? It's raining here, too Susanna. Guess a lot of us are getting the thunderstorms and rain showers going across the country. I am actually enjoying a quiet day at home, resting up from my trip some. The tale below explains why a rainy day at home isn't a bad thing to me. LOL!

Oh, to try to make a short story out of a long one, I have given a new meaning to getting down an dirty (in D.C. this time). When stepping off of a curb near the Eclipse and the White House area on Thursday, I stepped into a water-filled hole and fell flat on my face. Yes, I saw water there, and there were men working up from it a bit, but I had no idea it was a hole. I had some wonderful women help me, especially one who stayed with me until I got as cleaned up as I could. She held my glasses and searched her purse for hand sanitizer, which she found. I had to buy new clothes, as mine were wet, not to mention whatever was in the dirty water from the rain the day before that was backing up the drain. (Please no one tell me what was probably in it!!!) Anyway, luckily there were some street vendors close by. Not so lucky was that the only pair of bottoms I could find to buy were biker-like shorts in red, white, and blue--yes, a flag pattern. I can't imagine what I looked like, don't want to imagine it. LOL! I did get to a first-aid station, cleaned myself up more, changed clothes, and obtained a bandage with some triple antibiotic ointment for my bleeding elbow. Today, my knees are still sore and bruised, my elbow still sore (but healing nicely), hand healing nicely, and temple area still rather sore. I was amazed that my glasses didn't break. Who says I'm not lucky? I took a cab to Union Station and bought some more acceptable clothes (acceptable to me, someone might exists that liked my cute little shorts) and the day did improve (guess it had to, huh).

Now, in spite of the little "incident" above, I did have a nice trip--had some incredible food, found some great shops and merchandise to buy, and explored some places I hadn't before. Oh, and I did get to spend a bit of time with my husband, although he was in meetings most of the time.

I am going to get a cup of French Vanilla coffee from the pot now and relax a little.

message 1723: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm hanging at home this weekend (laundry, reading) and waiting to get news by phone on my mom. Thanks for everyone's kind words. I believe she will be going into the hospital for IV treatment, and I will be updated by my sister.

Kathy, I did some time on the bassoon as well. I played flute, piccolo, and bassoon (none very well) before I quit and started running cross country, haha!

message 1724: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh Kathy... what an awful thing to have happen. You are lucky you didn't do more damage (a friend of mine bashed her teeth out recently, don't even want to contemplate that one!) How about a nice lawsuit... 6 figures!

Lots of musicians here! My uncle played the bassoon as an adult... mostly he and my mother played recorder duets together, so I don't remember him playing very often. He died when I was quite young.

message 1725: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Hayes, I do feel lucky that I didn't do more damage. Yikes, your friend bashed her teeth out! That would be so traumatic, not to mention painful. I did break my nose when I fell here at home a few years back. That hurt a whole lot worse than my recent fall. I think I need to slow down a bit and watch more closely where I'm going.

Hayes, it is a nice memory to have of your uncle, even if you were too young to remember much. Christine, a fellow bassoon player. Yay! My daughter ran cross country in high school, and I loved going to her meets. She is married with kids now and still runs and exercises. The cross country is what got her interested in physical fitness.

What a sweetheart, Lee! Give her a big hug from me and tell her that her happy face made me completely better. Gundula, there was a lady that was yelling at the men working up from the place I fell about putting cones by the place where I fell. She was great (she and the woman who stayed with me until I got myself together)!

OK, now I have a great Youtube video link for us. Play it for your significant others, too. I love it! It's called "My Baby Loves a Bunch of Authors."

Hello everyone! I'm back from the convention and we had a great time! I am so tired!!! We walked for hours and we had to walk up to our room on the 7th floor because the elevators were ALWAYS full! I think I rode up once, because I forced my way on! Boy, do I need to start working out!

Welcome back, Kathy! Get better real quick -- it's awful to fall in the street like that. Glad someone helped you!

Christine -- hope your mom & you are ok. Keep us posted.

Good luck Hayes! Susanna keep us posted on your May trip.

I will post more on Monday morning and probably put up a few pictures, too. These young people in costume were unbelievable! People-watching was worth the price of admission. :)

message 1734: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (literaryfeline) My husband and I attended the LA Times Festival of Books today. We go every year, but this is the first year we were only able to go for one of the two days. I had such a blast! I love meeting authors and came home with a nice sized stack of books. Now to find time to read them!

I'll keep your mom in my prayers, Christine!

We had a scare with my dad this past week. He was sure he had a stroke when the left side of his face suddenly stopped working. Fortunately, it wasn't that. He's got Bells Palsy. It should clear up in a few weeks. I talked with my mom today and she said my dad's not taking it well. He thought that he'd get better right away after starting the medication.

I am so sorry about your fall, Kathy! I hope you are feeling better soon.

Good morning sleepies! Time to rise and shine. Hope everyone is feeling better today and that Barb finds her coffee! I've got to go fetch the dog from the kennel. His vacation will be over soon, too. Have a good one!

Literary Feline -- welcome to the group! :)

message 1736: by [deleted user] (new)

Good morning! I am dragging today. Barb, if you find your coffee, see if mine is hanging out with your's. Jeannette, I'm hoping for some pictures today from your weekend.

My mom is apparently going to try to heal this MRSA from home. I have to depend on updates from my sister to know what's going on, but she is going there daily to check on my mom. She thinks it will be okay, although we both wish she'd just check in to the darn hospital and get IV treatment.

Wendy, that is scary about your dad, but I am so glad that he didn't have a stroke. How's the kitty today?

I'm currently re-reading The Red Tent for my face-to-face club. It's been about 8 years since I read it, and I forgot how good it was.

Well, I'm off to figure out where Barb's coffee and mine are hiding. Maybe I'll just make a tea. That'll teach that coffee, ha.

message 1737: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey Christine (and anyone who wants to see who goes to Anime conventions) -- I did post a few pictures up on my profile page. Half of the fun of attending was seeing all of the young people in costume! :)

message 1738: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (literaryfeline) Good morning everyone! I hope you all have a wonderful day.

I'm with you, Barb! I could use another weekend day. It seems too soon to be Monday again already. I still haven't gotten around to reading The Time Traveler's Wife. I meant to when the movie came out but wasn't able to fit it in. I'm actually more intrigued by her newest novel and hoping to get to that at some point this year.

Jeanette, you've reminded me that I need to pull out Riley's shot records and make sure he's good to go this coming June. He'll get to spend a week at camp while my husband and I are out of town. He loves that camp and always has such a great time there. Thanks for the welcome! :-)

I am glad your sister is able to check in on your mom every day to make sure she's okay. I hope she heal quickly for her sake and yours and your sister's.

Anya is hanging in there. Her appetite is picking back up, which is good. Her energy level is still lagging though, which has me concerned.

Enjoy your day everyone!

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Good morning ladies! I see I'm bringing up the rear again this morning, back to normal.

Christine and Barb, your coffees are here with me and I'm drinking them as I type. LOL! It sounds like you needed coffee for the movie, Barb. I haven't seen it, as I, like you, was afraid it was a bad adaptation.

Jeannette, thanks for the laugh about taking the stairs. See, isn't it nice that your pain can provide laughs for others. In my walking this past trip, I could tell I was way out of shape, too. Not a pleasant revelation, but not too big of a surprise for me. I must start back to walking more. Oh, do post pictures, Jeannette (any of you walking up the stairs? hehe).

Christine, keep us informed about your mom. It sounds like she's a determined lady, so that's good.

Literary Feline, is it Wendy? Not that I mind calling you Literary Feline. The LA Times Festival must be awesome. What authors were there? I've been to the National Book Festival in D.C. and hope to go back this year. Theses big book festivals have so many great authors. I want a job where I have to attend all of them. LOL!

I get to see my baby granddaughter tomorrow, so I probably won't post until really late, like in the late afternoon. I'll pop back in today later. Have a good one, girls!

Thank you, Kathy. Her health is a topic of concern for me more and more as she progresses, but I think she is going to get through this current problem okay.

And I agree, laughing about Jeannette is always a good time. Hahaha! :) (love ya', Jeannette)

Have fun with your granddaughter!

message 1741: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, I am sooo glad I could brighten your day(s) with my tales of suffering! No, there are no pictures of me trudging up the stairs -- my husband and daughter ran up ahead of me, laughing all the way. One kind, young woman did encourage me at level 5 "there are only two more to go..."

I hope you like the pictures I posted. Attendance was 4,000 last year. It was a feast for the eyes!

message 1742: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (literaryfeline) Barb - I am glad to hear you enjoyed both! I've read quite a few mixed reviews of Her Fearful Symmetry. I have copies of both books, it's just a matter of when I'll get to them.

Kathy - Yes, it's Wendy. I noticed another Wendy in the group and so wasn't sure if that would make things too confusing. I belong to a couple of Yahoo book groups where I'm known as WendyCat in order to differentiate. Literary Feline is okay too, of course. :-)

I would love to someday attend the National Book Festival. It must be huge! I'm so jealous of everyone I know that is going to The Book Expo of America this next month. I think that's in New York. Maybe someday . . . I would not mind a job where I had to attend all of them either! If only, right?

There were tons of authors at the festival. I had the chance to meet a few: John Green, David Lethivan, Elizabeth George, Juliet Blackwell, Sophie Littlefield, Denise Hamilton, Kwei Quartey, Ed Brubaker, Simon Oliver, and Lev Grossman among them. I had such a good time. I had been hoping to meet up with some friends while there, but we were all going in so many different directions that it didn't quite work out.

I hope you have a nice visit with your granddaugther!

It's great to meet you, Hayes! I wish you could send some of that rain my way. I love the rain but live in an area that gets so little of it. Go figure.
