Good morning! Looking forward to a day with less walking in it! We were all over that campus yesterday.

I'm going to a book discussion at the local library tonight, too. That will be different! :)

What book(s) will be discussed?

message 1656: by [deleted user] (new)

Gundula,

The library has been hosting a 4 book series with the theme "Love, Forgiveness and Wisdom." This month's selection is The Winter's Tale by Shakespeare. I haven't read any Shakespeare since high school. I prefer to watch his plays.

Next month's book is Sense and Sensibility and I am the discussion leader. I have never lead a "live" discussion, so I am going tonight to see how it works!

I talked so much with the librarians about being the Jane Austen group co-mod on GR that they asked me to do the S&S discussion. That's what I get for talking about GR so much. :)

Thanks, Hayes! I think S&S is the perfect book for this discussion theme, too!

Here's a picture for today:

Cupcake

message 1661: by [deleted user] (new)

Jeannette,
It's a very good thing that your cupcake picture won't show for me...I would probably be chewing on my computer screen. I have a killer sweet tooth today that I am trying to control. I am avoiding the comfort snacks thread today as well.

Does anyone read Sandra Kring's books? I just got her new one in the mail today. That gave me a smile!

We have finished school for today, and I'm just wasting time now. I should start chopping veggies for dinner later, but I'd rather do the goodreads thing. :)

message 1662: by [deleted user] (new)

I can't see the cupcake either... and my sweet tooth is out of control today too! Just finished dinner and I'm still ready for a sweet fix!

message 1663: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow, just when you both have a sweet tooth my picture is broken. I can see it in front of me in the thread! That is too weird.

message 1664: by [deleted user] (new)

I see you've got a cupcake avatar, however!! *licking lips*

message 1665: by [deleted user] (new)

That's the cupcake picture. I'm happy it shows up. You can click on it for the larger view!! (No licking the screen.)

message 1666: by [deleted user] (new)

mmmm...cupcake. You are like that little red dude sitting on my shoulder.

message 1667: by [deleted user] (new)

Christine wrote: "mmmm...cupcake. You are like that little red dude sitting on my shoulder."

Is that you or Dixie talking?? :)

message 1668: by [deleted user] (new)

Dixie likes cupcakes too. Not as much as scones though, weird puppy.

Christine wrote: "Dixie likes cupcakes too. Not as much as scones though, weird puppy."

I like the new picture!

message 1670: by [deleted user] (new)

I just got home from the "live" book group discussion of The Winter's Tale. I am no Shakespeare scholar, so I figured I was doomed when the moderator turned out to be an assoc. professor of English at ISU, who teaches the stuff! She has also written a book about Elizabeth I. But, I did all right. It was only 4 people, and no one else could really make any sense of this play! I learned some interesting things and now I want to try another play sometime. :)

It's an old one, but it captures her "deep thought" look perfectly. Haha!

message 1672: by [deleted user] (new)

I thought it was her "I wanna cupcake" look! :)

Manybooks Jeannette wrote: "I thought it was her "I wanna cupcake" look! :)"

Dixie doesn't want cupcakes, she wants scones. There's a little shop in Dundas (where I live) that sells the most decadent scones; I wish I could send you some for Dixie, Christine.

message 1674: by [deleted user] (new)

Please send me some, too. I will drive them over to Dixie's house! (bwahaha...)

I wish we could send food through the computer.

It would be fun to have a progressive dinner on-line. Lee can make the cupcakes and you can bring the scones. I'll bring the tea! :)

OMG, a progressive dinner! I haven't heard that term in over 30 years. We used to do those when I was a kid with other families. It's so much fun! Do people still do them?

message 1678: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 21, 2010 05:00AM) (new)

Morning girls! Progressive dinner... would that be like a pot luck, where everyone brings something? Or like we used to do at Thanksgiving where we would go from apartment to apartment for the various courses, one family would host the appetizers, one would host the main course, one the dessert, etc.

Sounds like fun in any case! When do we start?

message 1679: by [deleted user] (new)

Jeannette wrote: "I thought it was her "I wanna cupcake" look! :)"

Well, her "deep thought" is usually "I wanna cupcake".
She only needs the one look, haha!

I won't even tell her about this thread, it will drive her mad with cravings. ;)

I've done one at the Ritz in Chicago (very special occasion) that took the whole evening. It was wonderful. Of course, I don't think that's what you used to do as a kid, but I loved the concept.

So, Lee, you remember things from when you were 3? :)

They still do progressive dinners, going house to house for different courses. I don't think I have ever really participated in one myself. I think stopping by Hayes place will take the most planning! I've got my passport..... :)

Good morning, everyone! Today is my daughter's 16th birthday! We took her out to dinner Monday night, and this weekend we will be in Minneapolis for a 3-day anime' convention (with costumes!). I think I'll be baking those cupcakes today. Have a good one. :)

message 1684: by [deleted user] (new)

Happy Birthday to her!! I hope that she has a fabulous day! 16...wow! So when does the driver's license come?

message 1685: by [deleted user] (new)

Books in the mail are the best! You'll love The Help!

She has driver's ed in August. The summer is too packed to do this any sooner. That will be a milestone for both of us -- waving from the driveway! *sigh*

Happy Birthday, Jeannette! I think the moms should be celebrated too!!

I don't think I'd go back to 16... 26 or 36 would be nice though!

Thanks, Hayes! I'm at the age where 36 sounds like a good choice. :)

I had to run a few errands this morning, really boring stuff, like mailing letters etc., so I splurged and bought some scones. I'm having one just now, they are to die for.

Yum -- Enjoy! Maybe you could compose a scone haiku?

Scones inspire limericks, I think:

In angry and incredulous tone
did Dixie lamentingly moan:
"A cupcake, though sweet,
is not my prime treat.
I want a delectable scone!"

message 1697: by [deleted user] (new)

Hayes, I love that! I need to copy that one down. You crack me up!

Good morning to everyone! I have to jump in the shower so that I don't smell like a farm animal when the grocery guy gets here, but I wanted to give a morning greeting first. Toodles for now!

message 1698: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 22, 2010 05:20AM) (new)

Morning Christine and Dixie!

Limericks are fun... we had a limerick writing contest at our wedding reception. I wonder where they got to... must search them out. Very funny some were!

message 1699: by [deleted user] (new)

Good morning everyone! Hayes, I love the limerick! You have a true talent. And what a great idea for a wedding theme! :)

Hope everyone has a great day! Christine, I am so not thinking about you smelling like a farm animal! lol
