Mary, that's what went through my mind, too. I thought of being John-boy, but Jeannette, I think you should have that honor (only because of your refusal). So funny!

Good morning, everyone. It must be Sunday because it's so quiet here. I plan on being outside today in the sun as much as I can! Have a great day!

message 1612: by [deleted user] (new)

Good morning!

Sun! *sigh*

overcast here, as it has been for days (weeks, months...) but at least it's not raining.

No ash cloud this far south, fortunately.

@Laura: Great photos! Thank you!

I remember when Mount St. Helen's blew its top, we got some of the ash in Calgary, Alberta. Actually, we lived in the city at the time and most of our cable stations were from Washington state. The pictures shown on the news were amazingly horrific. Walla-Walla, Spokane and even parts of Seattle looked like they were in the middle of a massive blizzard. I also remembered having Phys. Ed. outside and coughing much more than normal (this was in Southern Alberta, it would have been much worse further south). I hope the ash cloud dissipates soon, and I also hope that there won't be any more eruptions in the near future. I wonder, Hayes, if the overcast sky has something to do with the ash, and also, if the volcanic cloud will change the climate globally.

Gundula wrote: "I wonder, Hayes, if the overcast sky has something to do with the ash, and also, if the volcanic cloud will change the climate globally."

I don't think so, G., as it has been overcast here for so long. I'm sure there is some ash in the air, and when it finally gets around to raining we will see traces of it on the windows and cars (just as we do when the wind comes from Africa... traces of red Sahara sand are left every where).

I know the weather changed after Mount St. Helens, but I think the quantity of ash was enormous. I don't know how much ash has come out of Iceland... have there been any calculations?

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Good morning ladies! Drinking my coffee and checking in. Are there any other coffee lovers here? Laura, the bird photos are absolutely amazing! I was thinking how great it would be to see one in the wild. And how about this volcanic ash? Its affect is simply mind boggling. I've thought what a great story element it would make, a life or lives forever changed by the inability to get to a destination due to the ash. I keep thinking that someday I'll get to England, and I was imagining how horrible it would be if I had planned that dream trip for now. Yikes, we humans are rather at a loss when it comes to competing with Mother Nature.

I just talked to my in-laws in N. Germany (south of Hannover) and they say it is sunny and warm today. It doesn't seem that the ash cloud is moving very far to the south, so it couldn't have directly affected Italy yet. They did tell a funny story about Germany's Chancellor getting re-routed from the US to Lisbon, where the government had to plan a hurried reception for her. Her next flight took her to Rome and then a car was supposed to take her to south Tyrol. She hasn't been heard from since (per my mother-in-law)! One of her aides attended the memorial service in Poland in her place.

I can't tolerate coffee very well. An occasional latte' tastes good, but I'm a tea drinker.

Christine, I just read this post about your migraine. I used to have them years ago, and I know how horrible they are. What's interesting is that I no longer suffer from the killer headaches, but I still have the occasional scotoma, which is the zig zag line in your vision that ultimately results in having no focal point of vision. It's called the visual aura phase, being the 2nd of the 3 phases of a migraine, and, apparently it's not uncommon for the third phase of the painful (not nearly descriptive enough) headache to be absent. I can remember when I had both on vacation once and begging my husband to just knock me out (this was after pain medicine, he didn't oblige). So, take care of yourself today, and I sure hope you feel better soon.

I'm not sure what happened, Jeannette. I used to be quite the tea drinker, and for the past couple of years, I haven't been. I love the whole idea of tea, though, and must get back to it someday.

I don't react very well to coffee, so I stay away from it. I like tea much better, anyhow, especially green tea with jasmine, yum. I hope your migraine is better soon, Christine.

Good morning everyone! Yes, it's still dark out, but my whole concept of time is out of whack. I thought I'd get some time in on the start of my book, The Girl Who Fell From the Sky The Girl Who Fell From the Sky by Heidi W. Durrow . Has anyone read it? Bookmarks magazine had a piece on it, and I couldn't resist.

Maybe I'll see if I can wake Jeannette up with just my mental vibes. come to your computer, Jeannette...come chat

Has anyone tried those Starbucks singles (instant coffee thingys)? I may give it a shot. If I run the coffee maker then I will wake both children and diva dog.

I shouldn't have turned on the tv. Now I want to order a tomato slicer for 9.99 (but wait, if I order now they will send me 2 for the same price!). This may be too good to pass up.

message 1639: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello dear... I am, as usual, up and about... but it's 4 in the morning there! It's either good news (the headache is gone) or bad news (the pain woke you up). I hope the former.

Enjoy your book... I haven't heard of it. Let us know how it is.

message 1640: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 19, 2010 01:56AM) (new)

The headache is almost completely gone. It's a little buzz, but nothing too bad. I think my weird sleep this weekend just has my body off.

The book just came out, but I saw it in both Publishers Weekly and Bookmarks. It was calling to me. :)

How are you today, Hayes?

message 1641: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm okay, thanks... the sun is shining for the moment, so the day should be a good one. (My moods swing terribly with the weather!)

I have a busy day of taxi duty ahead of me, so I'm going to finish a few chapters of "Sweetness" before I have to face the traffic.

message 1642: by [deleted user] (new)

Good Morning, Christine & Hayes! Sorry, I think your vibes only gave me weird dreams, but they didn't get me to the computer. You'll have to carry on without me today! The girl and I are going on a campus visit today to Iowa State. We'll be gone all day. They'll give us muffins and coffee AND a free lunch! Fun for me......

Stay healthy everyone. Enjoy the day!

LOL! Christine, a friend and I laugh about not being able to turn on QVC without wanting to or actually ordering something. I just received in the mail a lovely travel bag. However, I will use it, as I am getting ready to go to D.C. for a few days, meeting hubby there. He's on Army business, I'm on vacation. I may be out of touch for a few days, as I haven't decided whether or not I'm going to mess with taking my computer on the plane. I think my husband will have his laptop there, though, so maybe I can steal a few minutes a day from his.

I wish I could give a definitive answer as to why my migraines stopped. Well, they didn't entirely stop, as I still have the scotoma part. Of course, that part is entirely bearable, as it isn't painful. The only problem is that I never know when it might hit, so driving somewhere long distance by myself causes me a bit of worry sometimes. I guess I would just pull off of the road until it passes, usually only lasts half hour or so. I'm not sure if having children had anything to do with the migraine departure or not, but it was close to that time that they went away. I, also, lost my painful menstrual cramps then, too. That was another roll in the bed, moaning experience. And, even with prescription pain medicine, cramps and migraines were horrible. I hope you are feeling much better today, Christine. Take it easy on yourself today.

Morning everone!

I think those product marketers have some kind of hypnotic power because no matter what they're selling if you watch for more than a few minutes you're hooked! It's scary.

Kathy I hope you have a wonderful trip, we will miss you.

Hayes, I don't envy you your taxi duty in Rome! Brave lady.

Christine, I'm glad your head is getting better maybe your coffee will kill the last of it.

Jeannette, I'm sure you are enjoying your free lunch right about now - yipeeee!

I'm back. I had a brownie for desert, too! Lea enjoyed the visit, and may just decide it isn't so bad to go to an in-state public university. They suggested that we apply this July for admission in August 2011! Things are getting earlier and earlier in the process. At least we won't be committed to sending her there.

A year ahead? That seems insane, although I keep hearing that. You should encourage her to go to Northern Illinois. It's like 30 minutes from me and we could go for tea and cupcakes. :)
